Chatty thread whilst waiting for Chernobs 2019

I'm waiting for the Chernobs thread to start - it's my favourite one Grin. I am sure we're all horrendously busy - I'm trying to finish off DS's blanket he ordered for Christmas. But it's mostly Lobelia and I can't see at night for the joining and he's been off school sick this week. Aaaatrrggghhh. However because of that, I have almost finished joining a Kinship hug - ran out of plum for the edging so have to go to wool shop tomorrow.

Have also started my Chernobs blanket but think I've mucked up the colours so may have to do some frogging.

What are you all up to?

Okki - sadly very unlikely I can get down this year :( . It was a long haul down .
I have done all the last of my squares, so all ready to join when I get home tomorrow .

Spindelina · 16/02/2019 08:45

Okki I can't see the date, but I'm assuming it's a Sunday again? I'll probably do it as a day trip this year, which (Sunday trains being what they are) means I won't be there before noon but that's OK.

Okki · 16/02/2019 11:09

@Spindelina - you're right it is a Sunday - it's 22nd Sept. it's too far for us to do a day trip but I am suggesting to DH we come down on Fri night this time and go to Isle of Wight on the Saturday. There's so much to do all round the area.

@Okki - pretty well, thanks. Grin

I almost finished the main part of my Candy's Hug last weekend - just 3 flower motifs to make into squares and join. And, I've done around 15 inches of my Chernobyl blanket during the week.

But why, oh why, didn't I start sewing in ends the week I was wool-less. Sigh! Sad

Oh wow Purple, that Candy's Hug is amazing. I'd have to agree with you about the peskies though 😱😱😱.

I do mine as I go now - one of the first blankets I did was a little hug of about 24 x 30 and I had over 400 peskies. Never again.

Chernobs colours are lovely. Is that an Attic24 pattern?

Thanks Okkl! I think I’m worried that if I sew the ends in too early I will have to rip it back and have problems...

The Chernobyl blanket is attic24’s Cosy Stripe, although I’ve had to substitute 4 colours which aren’t in the Chernobyl palette. So far I’ve just had to change the order of two stripes as I felt it would look better with the changed colours.

Anyone looking for a new project? Grin

Hmm - think I’ll give that one a miss! Grin

KnottyAndPistey · 20/02/2019 09:00

That’s what Knots and I need to wear at Victorious Festival! We do want to stand out. For the right reasons. Grin

KnottyAndPistey · 20/02/2019 09:01

Anyone coming to Victorious?!

Literally no idea what to expect. Gin

KnottyAndPistey · 20/02/2019 09:02

If you are thinking about joining our Christmas Stocking project but not yet started, we’ve had a message, boys aged 3-5 and 7-11 years are always in need of support. This might help you choose!

Last posting is May 31st. Thank you so much xxx

(shuffles around )

MrsJonesAndMe · 21/02/2019 06:37

Won't make it to either the festival or the WH meet I'm afraid.

Iwantacampervan · 21/02/2019 08:12

Which days are you planning to attend Victorious? Youngest daughter usually goes with friends but she's decided to go to Reading with her sibling instead.
I haven't yet been (despite living relativley close by) and feel this year may be the one but not if it involves crochet trousers!

KnottyAndPistey · 21/02/2019 09:31

Morning!

Saturday and Sunday Gin

KnottyAndPistey · 21/02/2019 09:32

Reading is a right of passage here

Collect GSCE results. Go to Reading. Got to be done!

MadisonAvenue · 27/02/2019 11:22

My oldest son never seemed that bothered about Reading, not yet anyway. Me and him went to Green Day's pre-Reading secret warm up shows in 2012 and '13 though. I think it was 2012 when it was the night before GCSE results so we went down to Shepherds Bush for the gig, walked around London all night afterwards, got the first train home and then off he went for his results and he'd had his mind taken off it!

MadisonAvenue · 27/02/2019 11:24

And I've just realised that this is the first Summer since 2012 where we're not waiting on academic results of some kind in this house! Phew!

bookbook · 09/03/2019 20:45

I realised I had debunked to the WH thread Madison , and this fell off my TIO - no intension of ignoring :)
I have never been to a festival - I never seemed to hear about them until too late in my younger days, and not sure I could cope with the noise and the mud now ( or is it more civilised than I imagine ? )
Does that mean no uni exams left either, or is that in the future?

MadisonAvenue · 09/03/2019 22:09

He graduated last Summer book - the three years absolutely flew by! He's now using his history degree well and is working full time in McDonalds 😂 He's hoping to start doing his PGCE in September but wanted a year off from studying beforehand. Having said that, he hasn't switched off completely; the history dept at his old secondary school have been brilliant and have been allowing him to go in and get some experience of the job.

I've never done a festival either, I couldn't deal with tents and mud! I dragged my husband to see Frank Turner again in January, it was supposed to be me and the above mentioned son going but he had a university open evening clash re the above mentioned PGCE. He's usually the one I go to concerts with while the younger one comes to football matches with me.

bookbook · 09/03/2019 22:40

Madison Shock - 3 years????? never ....DD1 is a teacher - she did her degree ( English) then went and found herself a job , as she had changed her mind about being a teacher. She had a year, and went back to do a PGCE Grin I think its good to get out of the academic cycle, step back and evaluate . She loves it, though its tough work and long hours.
Never , ever been in a tent, and certainly not starting now ! hooking away as fast as I can - they are shouting out for squares on fb :)

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/03/2019 18:09

Oh I love you guys hate camping Grin and not fond of large crowds or drunks either....

All this exam angst still lies ahead of me Shock

Spindelina · 12/03/2019 07:50

We're still planning the retreat, or whatever we were calling it, right?!? Fluffy duvets and all?

MadisonAvenue · 12/03/2019 16:18

Glad to see she enjoys teaching book. That seems to be the message we're getting from the younger teachers who we know; it's hard work but they love what they do!

I've camped twice. We live right on the edge of an AONB and the males of the house have camped on a site there several times. It's two miles from home, the site, so I'd walk up with the dog and join them for a barbecue before coming back home to my comfy bed and lovely bathroom. One time I was persuaded to stay, the weather was lovely and I actually found myself enjoying it, although one night was enough, so the next year I stayed again and I was freezing cold all night, it poured with rain and I didn't sleep a wink. Never again!
One time we all went to Edinburgh and I stayed in a hotel while they camped Grin
