Chatty thread whilst waiting for Chernobs 2019

I'm waiting for the Chernobs thread to start - it's my favourite one Grin. I am sure we're all horrendously busy - I'm trying to finish off DS's blanket he ordered for Christmas. But it's mostly Lobelia and I can't see at night for the joining and he's been off school sick this week. Aaaatrrggghhh. However because of that, I have almost finished joining a Kinship hug - ran out of plum for the edging so have to go to wool shop tomorrow.

Have also started my Chernobs blanket but think I've mucked up the colours so may have to do some frogging.

What are you all up to?

Lovely squares Bear and bookbook although i am shuddering at the peskies on those squares!!

I've 4 more squares to go, then it's joining time. The design needs a join that isn't visible ideally, which is new to me - I've only done join-as-you-go and zipper joining before. Would sewing instead of crocheting the join work?

bookbook · 22/01/2020 20:01

hah - all done as I went along Drop . Have you looked at slip stitch join through the back loops only ?

TheWoollybacksWife · 22/01/2020 20:09

What about the Celtic Lace join Drop - pattern here from Ravelry

DropZoneOne · 22/01/2020 22:55

Blimey woolly, that's gorgeous but I'm hoping to finish this blanket for Chernobs 2020 not 2021 Grin no way my technique is good enough to attempt that under pressure!

Slip stitch might work book, or I've been looking at mattress join or sewing through the back loops. Might have to knock up a couple of small sample squares and try the different techniques.

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/01/2020 18:35

It is beautiful isn't it Drop? I want to master it myself this year.

Is there anyone on this thread with yarn pegs? Could I be dead cheeky and ask if you would put a combo together for me and post a photo?

I've got a few balls of Plum and wondered if the following would go well

Pistachio
Old Rose
Plum
Parchment

Thinking about 12" squares with a Parchment border (2 or 3 rows). Would that be too pale?

bookbook · 23/01/2020 19:14

not quite pegs , but whole balls Woolly - I put in pale rose ( I think thats what you mean? ) I think its a nice mix .
I did pistachio in the first picture , but also tried Lime as a bit of a 'deeper' tone as well

Thank you book. I like the first combination the best. Looks like a Wool Warehouse order is coming up. Good job DH bought me a voucher for Christmas Grin

Hi all 👋🏻

Lots of lovely Wooly things going on!

@bookbook where are you off to on your hols? Can you bring some sun back please, we could all share it at the meet up!

@TheWoollybacksWife I like both sets, but I prefer the lime myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

bookbook · 23/01/2020 22:40

@ChippingLovesWoollyHugs - Tenerife on Saturday morning for a couple of weeks .
I will drag some sun back if possible , will see you in Leeds !
( I have about 1kg of yarn in the suitcase going away with me - far more important than clothes Grin )

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 23/01/2020 23:22

@bookbook

Oh lovely, looks to be very sunny and getting warmer as the days go on! I hope you have a lovely time!!

Only 1kg??? You might need to put some in DH’s. He won’t need many clothes! 😉

Well, I assume you’re taking DH?! Someone has to carry the —supplies— luggage!

I hope you have a fabulous time x

DS has his birthday party that day. I'll be thinking of you all when I'm 60 minutes into soft play hell, surrounded by a few dozen kids reacting Lord of the Flies while hopped off their faces on cake and juice.

Next time there's a Northern one though I will definitely consider tickets, Leeds is only two hours from me.

Okki · 06/02/2020 23:17

I was just wondering if I have managed to
miss a Chernobs 2020 thread?

I need to get a move on with my blanket. 🧶

I'm really looking forward to the Leeds Hugathon. Haven't actually decided how I'm coming yet - better look at trains.
