Chatty thread whilst waiting for Chernobs 2019

I'm waiting for the Chernobs thread to start - it's my favourite one Grin. I am sure we're all horrendously busy - I'm trying to finish off DS's blanket he ordered for Christmas. But it's mostly Lobelia and I can't see at night for the joining and he's been off school sick this week. Aaaatrrggghhh. However because of that, I have almost finished joining a Kinship hug - ran out of plum for the edging so have to go to wool shop tomorrow.

Have also started my Chernobs blanket but think I've mucked up the colours so may have to do some frogging.

What are you all up to?

Sometimes I prefer peskying to crocheting, depending what mood I am in.

@Bearfrills

I’m envious! I LOVE Wool Warehouse deliveries!! (Especially when it’s the ‘other’ Wool -merino etc)

Unfortunately I have previous indulged in my ordering and I now need to work my way through a couple of crate- fulls of yarn 🧶 before I order more ☹️

I've ended up spending tonight finishing off a blanket for littlest Bear so I haven't even untied the ribbons on the bag.

Tomorrow...

I'm going to start my Chernobs tomorrow. I might have to do a bit of starting and stopping while I work out how many chains to do to get the right dimensions for a chevron style.

Tonight I have finished off a pile of hats for NICU at my local hospital. My New Year resolution is to work through my stash before buying any new wool. I have a couple of packets of wool offloaded donated by my sister that might be a challenge.

Mmmm - I always have all the best resolutions for not buying more yarn , but have bought some rainbow cakes to make a Little Hug (or 2) while I am away on holiday ......Blush

Found you all! Was looking out for a 2020 thread!!

So lovely to see some familiar names. Spin that's going to be another work of art from you, i envy your patience and dedication

I've made a decent start on mine - just solid 6" grannies this year but lots of them, I'm 60/80 down so far but back to work tomorrow so productivity will slow. Annoyingly a ball of yarn is yielding 8-10 squares so i need to put a second WW order in tomorrow as i definitely need 10 of each colour!

@Bearfrills Thank you. They look lovely.

I am trying to finish a refugee project or three. Joining two parts of a blanket/ poncho to make a whole will be tricky. Then there is a blanket that never got sewn together... Then another one I started as I prefer squares to joining...

@BlackeyedSusan have you tried join-as-you-go? I despise joining together so I love this method. There's no significant reduction in the number of peskies to deal with but it's great for joining classic grannies.

I finally booked my train today and have been pleasantly surprised by the Trainline now offering split tickets. So by procrastinating I have saved £11. That can be spent on either 🍸 or 🧶 or both 🤣

I can't get the hang of join as you go, it's on my list of skills to keep practicing until I can crack it, so I'm in awe of anyone who can manage it. I made a blanket for my oldest daughter and it took me ages to join it together because I kept putting it off and putting it off.

I am with you on that Bear - I have tried , honest!
yay Woolly - will be lovely to meet you at the Hugathon!
Trying to get as many squares done as possible before I go away on hols in 10 days . I am on #65 of 99 , so 34 left so only 4 a day ! Not sure , but at least if they are mostly done , they will be finished and joined up pronto when I get back :)
Drop - I saw that ! Do you think they know WH has a big load of blankets to make? Grin

Blimey sounds like I'm weird using join-as-you-go Blush although I have to admit I fudge it a bit and use DC instead of a slip stitch.

I use my organza bags for packing my shoes on holiday. The trick is to order enough wool to get the medium sized bags that hold 2 pairs of shoes perfectly.

The WH code of CHARITY gives 10% off all year but I don't know if you can stack codes for bigger discount.

Looking forward to meeting you too book

I like join-as-you-go too woolly, but i learnt to do that before regular joining

I think I am basically a planner of how I want a blanket to look , but also so new to crochet relatively So I make squares and then if I don't get enough done for a whole blanket , I can send them in as is .
Not made a blanket for anyone other than WH in truth :)

My first square of Chernobs 2020 is done! Got many, many, many peskies to sew in and I know I should do them as I go but that's a problem for Future Bearfrills Grin

Beautiful Bear. If I wasn't sure that DD1 can't crochet I'd ask if you were her Grin. She always leaves stuff for "FutureDD1name" to deal with. 🤣

That's a lovely square Bear - love the colours.

I may have crumbled and ordered a load of wool from Woolwarehouse sale. And obviously had to get enough to qualify for free postage Grin. Just need to crack on now. Woolly, I can confirm that CHARITY code didn't work as they were sale prices. Though I think it did in the past.

I did my blanket last year with join as you go, but it didn't feel as sturdy to me. I will use it again, but not on this blanket I'm currently doing. Will be sewing it.

Book are you off in your hols soon? Have fun.

Bear - that is gorgeous - I think I see a lot of fptr in there ?
I am one who would twitch a bit at leaving all the peskies until last . I like to get things done , and that is a job that slows the end bit down for me . So I de peskie every square before I go to the next one .
Yes Okki - off to the sun on Saturday . I have yarn ....Grin.
I am cracking on with the squares - I have 11 left to do

Report
Bearfrills · 19/01/2020 17:50

Lots of fptr and one entire row that had to be frogged back when I realised right at the end that I'd switched to UK stitches part way through that part of the pattern Confused

gah Bear
well - I have made them all - a few days to spare :)
K&P have put out a call for Candys squares , so I will pop these to one side to join when I get back from my hols , and try and get a few done .
