Chatty thread whilst waiting for Chernobs 2019

I'm waiting for the Chernobs thread to start - it's my favourite one Grin. I am sure we're all horrendously busy - I'm trying to finish off DS's blanket he ordered for Christmas. But it's mostly Lobelia and I can't see at night for the joining and he's been off school sick this week. Aaaatrrggghhh. However because of that, I have almost finished joining a Kinship hug - ran out of plum for the edging so have to go to wool shop tomorrow.

Have also started my Chernobs blanket but think I've mucked up the colours so may have to do some frogging.

What are you all up to?

Well, it's not going to keep very much of anyone warm yet!

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 05/12/2019 22:30

That’s true!

I’m looking forward to seeing it finished 😊

bookbook · 06/12/2019 11:48

wow Spin - looking fabulous as always ! Are you able to concentrate on the commute ( train I am assuming? )
I have just put my Chernob squares to one side ( I've done about a quarter of what I need so far ) , after agreeing to knit a slouch hat for DD2 - she chose a goody , that takes a bit of concentration Hmm Grin

Spindelina · 06/12/2019 21:34

That's the bit I got done on a couple of train journeys over the last couple of weeks. New job won't be starting until Easter ish - I've got to get all the paperwork (DBS etc) sorted out first, then give 12 weeks' notice where I am now.

But yes, about an hour by train (then 25 mins bike), and in the other direction from London - which makes it cheaper and less busy! An hour is enough time to actually do something.

diamantegal · 07/12/2019 23:32

Right, have been very much AWOL this year due to general life pressures, but I'm back on it for 2020. Have also managed to reinvigorate DM's knitjo (is that a thing?) so have a pile of squares which may or may not be in the right colour - need to check them against the new palate, and if not, I'll make them in to a blanket for Battersea or somewhere who don't care about the colour!

But Leeds? Really?! I can't remember if it's K or P who are down the road from me but I was hoping to somewhere closer to home for the next one - can't we do the Pheasantry cafe in Bushy Park? Pretty please?

BlackeyedSusan · 08/12/2019 09:19

I have been absent for two years due to a really difficult time for the family.

I might not be back on board til 2021.

I have found a couple of half finished blankets for refugees... Which may no longer meet the criteria. One I am worried about as it was with donated wool.

TheWoollybacksWife · 08/12/2019 10:47

@BlackeyedSusan do you want to post a photo of what you've done so far. Assuming I'm ok with continuing your pattern(s) I would be happy to take them and finish them for you.

Thanks hope your tough times get easier sooner than you hope.

Okki · 09/12/2019 23:44

I lost this thread. Glad I've found it again.

@BlackeyedSusan Hope next year is better for you all

@Spindelina been meaning to message you to tell you that my DD (12) has recently started to play an Eb Tuba. Good luck with your new job too. I'm looking forward to seeing your glorious blanket. Are you able to come to Leeds?

@bookbook I love those squares. After last years blanket I swore I was going to do 12" squares only. I am stealing a blanket design I saw on the Christmas Cwtchs so am 5 squares into 80. Next year it'll be 12" squares!!!

Hi Okki!

Great instrument choice. I switched (from Euphonium) when I was 12. It won't go in her back pocket, but opens loads of music doors!

I can't do Leeds - too far at the wrong time for a weekend away. Thinking about Gloucester (definitely a day trip - was on my list of places where I was hoping a new job might appear!) but that weekend has many other things going on already.

KnottyAndPistey · 12/12/2019 09:38

Do my love, I'll pop you on the list xxxx

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/01/2020 12:23

@KnottyAndPistey

I'm going to book my train tickets to Leeds in the next day or so. Can someone confirm times, please? If I arrive in Leeds by 10:30 and depart after 5 will that cover everything? I'm almost certain that the event is 11-4 so I have built in some "getting to and from the railway station" time and a wee

ChippingIn · 03/01/2020 11:35

@TheWoollybacksWife

The Great Woolly Hugs’ Hugathon Event 3 all takes place on Saturday 29th February 2020! (yes it is a Leap Year!) between 11.00am and 3.30pm, at The Marriott Hotel, Leeds

This is from the website, so I imagine your train times will be fine.

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/01/2020 15:15

Thank you so much @ChippingIn

There's a train not long after 4 that would get me home with just one change and the railway station isn't too far from the Hugathon so I think I might be home even earlier than I thought. I could drive but travelling by train gives me extra crochet time.

bookbook · 03/01/2020 15:49

ooh , looking forward to this , and seeing folk !
I am going to be like the Queen Grin - DH has offered to drive me and DD1 and pick us up so don't even have to think about parking :)
I had a bit of other crafting to do for Christmas , but now I am toddling on with the Chernobyl squares - nearly half way . I am quite enjoying the change from 12" ers , and the solid trebles I can do anywhere , which is a bonus :)

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/01/2020 16:35

My goodness book they are glorious I'm going for wide, wide stripes to minimise the sewing in.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 03/01/2020 17:54

@TheWoollybacksWife you’re welcome. I was going to reply the other day, but I left it as you’d tagged K&P & didn’t want to interfere, but as they both seem to still be recovering from the festivities (or far more likely digging themselves out of piles of wool!!), I thought I’d post what little I know! I’m looking forward to meeting you😊

Though between you and @bookbook I think I’ll have to be the mascot for the very slow crocheters & knitters. 🧶 I might start crocheting snails as my ‘thing’. Anyone feeling a bit nervous/slow can come and sit with me - it’ll improve their confidence no end!!

Looking forward to seeing you again bookbook 🌷😊

bookbook · 03/01/2020 21:05

I am trying to be very good Woolly - sorting out each one as I finish .
After last years cosy stripe Attic24 blanket for Snugs , , that was enough for me - I tried to keep up with the peskies , but fell sway behind

bookbook · 03/01/2020 21:06

oh , and yes Chipping - hopefully some chatting? Grin

Spindelina · 05/01/2020 20:13

I don't have the self control not to start the next round Grin

ChippingInLovesWoollyhugs · 06/01/2020 00:31

Oh @Spindelina it’s going to be amazing! But the peskies are going to be like a massive bowl of spaghetti. You’ll thank yourself (later) for taking the time to do some now!
