I despair really.

Imagine how it feels to live with a 16 year old girl with an eating disorder who fantasises about getting her tits amputated after a member of school staff taught her about it.

I think children who are struggling socially may be attracted to the LGBTQ+ Club and there will be precious few other lunchtime club options for them. So this club is a dangerous concept...children shouldn't be being encouraged to set their sexuality so young.
In the 1970s I used to go to 'needlework' club 3 lunchtimes a week. Much safer lol and what a wonderful teacher to give up her time like that.
My kids are adults now but I remember wandering round their Comprehensive school in Scotland at a parents' evening once and seeing a sign for the LGBT Club. It surprised me I think. It was certainly never publicised by the school to parents.

God yes!

It’s one of the few ways a sensitive, SEN kid can stay quietly indoors and out of the dinner hall/playground/push and shove of a corridor full of peers.

They probably say something about North America Hmm but this is really sad and horrific

I'm not your child's teacher. My school is not your child's school. I am not your punching bag. Take your misplaced anger elsewhere.

How do you know?

Maybe you are my child’s teacher.

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2023 14:41

Because I am not doing the things that she has been accusing me of doing.

And then no apology for the accusations.

Clearly very angry. Aiming it at the wrong person.

A PP wrote "The Labour Party has a new agenda, a quasi religious belief which amalgamates queer theory, gender identity, critical race theory. This new agenda will suffuse everything they do, it has replaced socialism."

Pick-your-own-identity politics is an extreme neoliberal position that is actually incompatible with socialism. Creating your own bespoke identity and then claiming oppression on the basis of it is in diametric opposition to class analysis, because it destroys the notion of class as being something that is imposed on you by circumstances beyond your control.

Without socialism, the Labour Party aren't going to fix the issues that you mention, because without class analysis, those issues won't be deemed important. Instead, endless money will be wasted on EDI trainers and the like, who would be flipping burgers with their numpty degrees otherwise.

Pick-your-own-identity politics is in fact a means of getting unearned power in an environment that has embraced queer theory as gospel. A white man, who would otherwise be classed as an oppressor regardless of wealth, can become classified as oppressed and therefore gain power in a structure that gives privilege to those who are labelled as being oppressed in wider society. Sarah Summers (who is taking Brighton Rape Crisis to court) profiled an EDI trainer who would be a photographer languishing in obscurity if not for a Brave And Stunning decision to transition. This trainer now talks about wearing h** sister's knickers in front of rooms full of workers, some of whom may be the victims of this kind of paraphilic clothing theft. If this trainer was born female, talking about wearing someone else's knickers would get the training session immediately halted. Labour aren't stopping this misogynistic nonsense: it is the Tories who are pulling govt departments out of Stonewall and other EDI Industrial Complex accreditation schemes.

A good post!

I've wanted to have similar conversations on this branch, but found it impossible. I'd just like to thank @noblegiraffe and @Hercisback for their calm tenacity in the face of irrational demands and plain fiction. The latter somewhat ironic, given that some of the same people are vocal about not being prepared to lie.

It's only too clear that some participants in this thread have no idea of the reality of being a teacher, what a teacher is free to do, and how they feel about their pupils.

Thanks @saraclara

I can see why many would avoid engaging on this topic on here.

Floisme · 16/04/2023 15:07

I sympathise with teachers actually. A lot. Awful job. But I sympathise even more with children who get one shot at an education, and with parents whose kids are in the system right now. I'm not part of it any more, which is why I've avoided commenting lately, but I find it startling how much this has escalated since I was involved and I can quite understand the fear and the anger and yes, in some cases, the utter fury. If you interpret that as blind hate well then I think that's on you. At least one poster has written on this thread about how this has directly affected her family - how do you expect her to feel?

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2023 15:20

I totally understand the anger. Some absolutely appalling things have been happening. But that doesn't mean I should expect and accept personal insults, or allow false accusations. Like I said, the anger is being aimed at the wrong person.

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2023 15:25

Incidentally, looking at the preview of the trans guidance, it appears that people who are disappointed by how weak it is need to consider the application of the law.

It appears to accept that gender reassignment is a protected characteristic for children.

It also appears to stick to the Equality Act on single sex spaces. The prohibition on participation in contact or competitive sport of the opposite sex still leaves the option for participating in PE or non-contact, non-competitive sport with the opposite sex. Proportionate means to achieve a legitimate aim.

Those who want it strengthened perhaps need to be looking at what is legally possible. I suspect that they have already done that though.

Ourladycheesusedatum · 16/04/2023 15:35

noblegiraffe · 15/04/2023 20:37

Again with the insults.

I said the advice should be practical and compassionate. Which is what you should hope for when we are potentially talking about some very vulnerable young people.

Was the stonewall "advice" practical, applicable and compassionate?

I'm going with not, because of how many it harmed.

If stonewall et al advice was taken and it was beyond the law already in place, why are we waiting now to bring common sense back?

EmotionalSupportHyena · 16/04/2023 15:38

EQ10 doesn’t take precedence over parental responsibility.

Are you sure you understand the anger? You appear to be going head to head with one or two posters but meanwhile at least one other poster has shared a distressing personal situation and yet I've not seen any teachers on this thread even acknowledge what she said, even though at one point, you posted straight after her.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2023 15:52

Turns out Endless Tea is PBP and has been banned again.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2023 15:54

I totally understand anger hence campaigning against this shit for about 13 years.

I don’t accept personal attacks, false accusations, insults etc.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 15:58

Posters on here aim personal snide comments then get upset if they receive the same 🤷‍♂️

I don’t trust their position on this anyway.

How can that be true? , they normally remove posts when this happens.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2023 16:01

Feeling’s mutual. I think ‘some posters’ concern about the issue is recent and politically motivated and doubt they’ve actually done anything beyond keyboard warrior stuff on mumsnet.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 16:04

Great

You do your Labour stuff and I’ll continue to talk to others I trust 🤷‍♂️

You don’t bring anything to this other than insults and snide remarks anyway.

And if I post on mn about it so what?

It doesn’t mean I ‘don’t care’ or whatever narrative you’ve filled your head with.

swallowedAfly · 16/04/2023 16:08

So still falsely calling me a labour supporter when I have repeatedly said I’m not.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 16:13

Yep. People will say anything.
