On 6 August 2026, BBC Three Counties local radio station, which covers Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, ran a half hour current affairs chat on the Jonathan Vernon-Smith Show. The midday item was posed as a question: “Do you think it’s right to tell transgender people which toilet to use?”

The first contributor put on air to talk about that question were Robin Moira White, a male barrister who claims to be a woman. Robin advocates for men to be able to use women’s toilets and does so himself. The next guest was Nora Padilla, a full-time policy officer at the campaign group TransActual, which also advocates for men to be able to use women’s toilets. Then we heard from “Michelle” from Watford. Like Robin, Michelle is a man who claims to be a woman and – surprise surprise – advocates for male use of female facilities....

And the story goes on. And gets more and more damning for the BBC. The useless, ridiculously activist, taxpayer-supported BBC... Still.

All toilets should just go unisex. Problem solved.

All men should keep out of women's toilets. The problem that they alone have created will be solved.

No way. I have no desire to be forced to use toilets which are habitually used by men too until men learn not to leave such a mess behind themselves.

No. Do try and think about people other than yourself and why that might not be suitable for them even if it is for you.

That doesn't solve a problem , it just creates one that had already been resolved. Single sex was created so that people ( mainly women) could feel comfortable and safe. People who don't want to use a facility designated for their sex can use an alternative - which has always been the most obvious solution and one that many places have already installed. This just needs to be one single self contained room labelled 'unisex'. Voila! Problem solved.

Oh let's run that through the bullshit translator:

'should men deprive women of access, equality, privacy and dignity in order to use those women to meet their own needs?'

Well no. Not unless you're a sexist arse. Obviously.

You can only believe this bullshit if you fundamentally believe in binary sex and that men matter in ways that women don't. That men have 'needs', and women have no right gatekeeping their bodies from them.

Thank God the law spoke and it's too late for wittering now.

You really haven’t figured out what this row is really all about, have you.

This is a zero sum game, and the trans activists gain by taking something away from women.

As telling as the actual question was, given that a lot of trans- identified men just LOVE to talk about (women's) toilets, I would like the question to have been:

Do you think it’s right to tell men which toilet to use? Should they use the same one my nine-year old daughter uses?
Or

Do you think it’s right to tell men which changing rooms at the local pool to use? Should they use the same one my nine-year old daughter uses?

Or

Do you think it’s right to tell men which hospital ward to use? Should they use the same one my eighty-nine-year old mother uses?

Ask trans-identified men these questions, on live BBC radio, and make them explain their answers.

Because it's not really about toilets, is it? But, it's always about men.

That's a terrible idea and would only encourage dangerous people as well as making toilets unusable for most women

Knowing the presenter in question it’s not a surprise that this happened. It’ll happen again while the BBC is so fatally captured. Top work by the man who made the original complaint, it’s an unusually self reflective response that he got and I hope he peruses it for more answers. Nick is a bloody legend as well, a supremely welcome addition to the fight for common sense.

What an entirely stupid suggestion.

But don’t TIM claim they are unsafe in male spaces? If toilets are unisex, the very males TIM are afraid of will be in those spaces with them. Won’t that make the TIM unsafe? Surely if TIM are safe in unisex spaces, they will be safe in the male toilets.

Don’t unisex spaces have to be individually lockable? There wouldn’t be any sharing

And who would pay for this conversion? are you expecting small businesses to spend thousands of pounds just because some men won’t use the male toilets? Why should they?

I do think Nick's actions here will backfire. It essentially means that any time any GC person is on - they will have to be balanced by either someone trans or trans inclusive. So it's not quite the win he's making out - but that won't bring in the adulation he clearly feels he needs.

Let's discuss

Why the BBC decided (deliberately decided) not to interview a single woman for this piece?

Why the BBC decided (deliberately decided) to instead interview three biological males who are advocating for men to break the law and use women's toilets?

Why the BBC lied and said that no woman had been available to interview, when actually they had told Sex Matters that they were not needed for the discussion?

Actually balance of any kind on this issue would be a HUGE step in the right direction for the BBC. It wouldn't be hard for them to achieve this if they were so inclined- the bar is already so low, that the BBC really can't go anywhere but up.

And unisex, rather 'mixed sex' loos, are not the answer.
Where is our toilet expert to explain for the umpteenth time about all things loo related?

But no: it is not all about loos (and they say sex-realists are obsessed)

But why would that be a problem? Surely it’s good people hear both sides of the debate. It’ll enable both sides to put forth their most coherent and logical arguments won’t it? I mean one side you’ve got men saying they want to access female spaces because they want to, and the other side women explaining why they should not be allowed. It’d be an eye opener I think.

Over a hundred years ago we stopped doing this in the UK.

We still advise third world countries not to do this.

Absolutely. Let's hear them say it. Let's hear them justify it. Where everyone can hear it and query it. It shouldn't be hard for them to justify why they want men in women's spaces, because they've been working on that for years.
