From Nick Wallis' Genderblog:

On 6 August 2026, BBC Three Counties local radio station, which covers Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, ran a half hour current affairs chat on the Jonathan Vernon-Smith Show. The midday item was posed as a question: “Do you think it’s right to tell transgender people which toilet to use?”

The first contributor put on air to talk about that question were Robin Moira White, a male barrister who claims to be a woman. Robin advocates for men to be able to use women’s toilets and does so himself. The next guest was Nora Padilla, a full-time policy officer at the campaign group TransActual, which also advocates for men to be able to use women’s toilets. Then we heard from “Michelle” from Watford. Like Robin, Michelle is a man who claims to be a woman and – surprise surprise – advocates for male use of female facilities....
[my bold]

And the story goes on. And gets more and more damning for the BBC. The useless, ridiculously activist, taxpayer-supported BBC... Still.

BBC Gender Apology Row

Now they’re in trouble. Sex Matters. (l-r) Dr Helen Joyce, Maya Forstater and Fiona McAnena I am not a defund the BBC sort, but I can understand the frustrations of those who are. I have spok…

I didn’t say that this conversion should happen. I was just pointing out why your argument was flawed

But it’s not flawed. Actually, unisex or “all gender” toilets should be individual and lockable but often are not. During the Stonewall Law era, many places just converted their toilets to unisex by changing the signs on the doors, )looking at you Bristol Watershed). MSo in those spaces, TIM are in just as much danger as they would be in male spaces don’t you think, as they are now sharing the spaces with the very men they are afraid of. So in that case, campaigning for unisex toilets without requiring conversion could be seen as transphobic couldn’t it?

Rollingpinofdoom · 12/09/2026 20:03

Has anyone told Oxfam how transphobic they are by campaigning for single sex toilets in India and Pakistan?

I do think Nick's actions here will backfire. It essentially means that any time any GC person is on - they will have to be balanced by either someone trans or trans inclusive. So it's not quite the win he's making out - but that won't bring in the adulation he clearly feels he needs.

Well, based on the way trans-identifying people and transactivists have so far refused to appear on the same programme as sex-realist women to actually debate this issue, I think the BBC might have problems achieving this.

And why the dig at Nick? It wasn't he who first complained to the BBC about this unbalanced programme and got a proper apology, but an X user called Bob and Nick makes this clear. All Nick does in this blog post is report on the case. He's a journalist.

No problem because gender critical people are sensible, articulate and well-informed, and their opponents are not.

the adulation he clearly feels he needs

Goodness knows where you got this notion from. How silly.

SwirlyGates · 12/09/2026 20:48

It's a really weird question to ask, I think - if they'd asked, "Do you think it's right to tell men which toilet to use?" or "Do you think it's right to tell women which toilet to use?" people would be scratching their heads wondering why you were asking, because it's bloody obvious. People don't get to choose the toilets they use, they are told which one and expected to get on with it.

Also, as well as missing out gender-critical women, they missed out gender-critical men. They do exist after all - many men want single sex spaces not just for women but for themselves. And the men could make a case for welcoming trans women in the men's.

I think that would be ok actually. Since TRAs haven't got a leg to stand on in the face of GC arguments let them speak.

Yes - it's odd to snipe at an award winning ethical journalist who's now reporting on the abuse of women and children.
Still, it takes all sorts and women are delighted to see him reporting this widely.

Why wouldn't GC people want to debate this publicly with people who advocate for allowing some men into women's toilets? Free speech and open debate about contentious issues is the bedrock of a mature democracy. How interesting that you consider that balanced reporting would be a 'backfire'.

EdithStourton · 12/09/2026 21:18

Thanks for this thread, OP - I was looking to see if anyone had started one on this.

Like Nick, I'm not a defund the BBC sort by nature. But crap like this makes me glad, once again, that we haven't paid the licence fee for almost 4 years.

It's such a shame, because an impartial national broadcaster is such a brilliant idea. Ours just isn't impartial, which is something of a problem.

Edited for typo.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 12/09/2026 21:21

The title of the segment shows how biased it was from the get go, it should never have been aired, not considering how the bbc boasts about it being 'impartial', and presents a 'balanced view.'

Yep! It's not been GC that wanted #nodebate. We're all about operation #letthemspeak

Why would that be a problem? I no more want trans/TRA voices silenced than I want GC Femimist voices silenced.

Indeed, the last thing I want is for TRAs to have an excuse to complain they aren't getting a fair deal.

Plus, GC Feminist arguments always hit best when a Genderist is there trying to counter them. If there's no Genderist to demonstrate the batshittery is real, a GC commentator has to choose between downplaying their summary of "the other side" to sound fair, or laying it out and sounding batshit themselves. So much of Genderism is so illogical and unbalanced with regard to considering basically anyone not trans that if you don't see it first hand you can't believe it is actually happening😂

BridgetYourFortyDaysAreUp · 12/09/2026 21:41

Rollingpinofdoom · 12/09/2026 19:34

But don’t TIM claim they are unsafe in male spaces? If toilets are unisex, the very males TIM are afraid of will be in those spaces with them. Won’t that make the TIM unsafe? Surely if TIM are safe in unisex spaces, they will be safe in the male toilets.

What impeccable logic - I wait with bated breath to see what response you get...I don't believe I've ever read a well thought out response to this. Tonight could be the night!

Oooh I am on tenterhooks hoping I’ll get a well thought out reasoned reply.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 12/09/2026 21:42

I think we can safely say GC Feminists are not concerned that having TRA arguments placed next to ours is going to pose a problem 😂

FairAmberEagle · 12/09/2026 19:15

All toilets should just go unisex. Problem solved.

Why not just make all toilets male only and be done with it?

Yes, send us back to 185O's, and then maybe we could start the Ladies Sanitary Association again. Although I dare say the gender hijacking men will demand to be a part of that association as well.

Yeah. If some of the gubbins I’ve read on here from the TRA is typical, having both sides on at the same time would be awesome.

The main risk seems to be having a biased presenter who gives the TRA most of the airtime and interrupts any GC argument with something like "but isn't doing X unfair to transwomen?" before it can be laid out that not doing X is unfair to everyone else.

that is a problem to be sure. Mind you, more airtime for the TRA might be useful. Especially if the women just say “no” in a calm voice. As we see on here a lot, it doesn’t take much before the male rage appears….

I think it’s a matter of expectations. A cis man using the mens probably isn’t expecting a female-presenting person to use the space and could respond negatively. In a truly gender neutral space, he wouldn’t have specific expectations for who he would see.

I think it’s the same logic for why someone might find a mixed sex space at work safer than a public one. You wouldn’t expect someone to behave poorly at work because it would have employment consequences and so you feel safer in that space.

Why would a man respond negatively to another man using the men’s? And if he does, then the TIM can just tell him to #bekind and budge up right? Isn’t that what women are told to do? If men are uncomfortable accepting TIM in their spaces, why has there not been a campaign telling them they need to accept some men wear feminine coded clothes and that’s ok.
all single sex spaces are gender neutral. We are told sex and gender are different, so TIM should be perfectly fine in their truly gender neutral single sex spaces shouldn’t they?

Well apart from there's not such thing as 'cis', that's a mans problem and men need to solve it, it's not for women to solve. The gender stealing men need to take such problems up with their fellow men and leave our bogs alone.

Not a very balanced programme? No impartiality. So glad I don't watch BBC so don't have a licence

You're arguing the wrong argument, or answering the wrong question, or at least one for which we are not awaiting an answer.

The question/ argument is:
But don’t TIM claim they are unsafe in male spaces? If toilets are unisex, the very males TIM are afraid of will be in those spaces with them. Won’t that make the TIM unsafe? Surely if TIM are safe in unisex spaces, they will be safe in the male toilets

Would you like to take a stab at giving a well-reasoned answer to this, that actually answers this conundrum, not a different one that you would prefer to answer?

That's what we are missing.
