Jo R’rith’s comments on trans anxiety, public spaces and current guidance

This just up on socials from Jo:

"Regular viewers to "The Jo R'rith Show" will know I suffer a great deal from anxiety attacks, and PTSD from events that began in 2015. Viewers are probably also familiar with my status as a trans woman in Britain, a country that in that time has become increasingly transphobic and bigoted.

Y'all may also be familiar with my costuming/cosplaying/fancy dress or whatever you want to call it, particularly my Uruk-Hai Orc costume. But what you may not realise is that they all intersect - I have anxiety attacks because I am a trans woman in a country that is abusive towards trans people and is trying to segregate us from the rest of the population. I travel to and from events where I wear my costumes, risking transphobic abuse and hatred for being trans. Only when Im in my costume do I get any respite from the fear and anxiety, basically because I'm unrecognisable beneath said costume, and because no one feels confident enough to have a go at the intimidating Uruk-Hai General wearing armour standing before them.

But my anxiety is strong, sometimes overpowering, and that's before the new EHRC guidance on how to be a bigoted cockwomble towards trans people, is included. You see I, like a great many trans people; know my rights and the law. I know that I haven't been banned from female toilets or changing spaces, but I also know that you, Joe Public, don't know that; because you've been fed a shit tonne of lies by the Press, and by TERFs telling you different, and Im sure that, if they find this post; some TERF cockwomble will erroneously claim that it is against the law, but they're lying So that means every time I use a public space, say the female toilets at a services or the like, then I run the risk of encountering someone who thinks I shouldnt be there, and so anxiety, panic and my PTSD."

Fragile narcissism.

Huge man who openly enjoys scaring women, while concurrently enjoys indulging his own fantasies of oppression and humiliation.

ArabellaScott · 18/08/2026 09:51

Would be my guess, anyway.

Thanks for the earworm! I'll have to listen to the real thing, now!

This whole thread seems a bit....orchestrated! Erm! 🧥

I am sure it is.

And aside from the standing comment that

  1. women-only spaces are not resources to help troubled men
  2. men who want to be treated as women are not in reality any closer to being women than any other man so have no more justifiable claim on our spaces then othr men

I don't think we should be commenting on individuals.

We know splintery rolling pin is still hanging around trying to build a case that MN and FWR are hate sites.

I'd be very careful of any posts encouraging anything that could be construed as bullying of individuals, even if those individuals are exhibiting cravenly sexist attitudes towards women.

Sadly misogyny is so normalised in society that when women react publicly to sexist men, far too often it is the reaction is criticised not the sexism.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 18/08/2026 10:24

He Sells Sanctimony was a glorious comment though 😍

If a man gets PTSD when leaving the house dressed as a 70s bad movie hooker or an Orc, then just put some fucking trousers on lad.

Yes, that is why I'm wondering. How do you know someone is trans if they are under a full Uruk-Hai costume?

I AM GRISHNAK, SKULL CRUSHER, SHIELD BREAKER, SERVANT OF THE ETERNAL DARK LORD, SAURON!!

...my pronouns are she/her

Coffeelovr · 18/08/2026 10:35

Well, you shouldn't because you're not female

These are female toilets. They are for females. You are not female, therefore they are not for you

Man who is interested in a fantasy world and also Lord of the Rings.

Well actually he was the voice of an Orc.

And a gold lamé handbag

Surely he should be channeling GaGa's 'stomach clutch' from her 2010 walking-meat-raffle MTV awards outfit?

Oooooh, now that’s a claim to fame!

slug · 18/08/2026 13:44

Indeed. The story is, he was at a one day cricket match in the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The basin is just that, a basin shaped grounds with really good acoustics.

At the lunch break the production team from Lord of the Rings turned up and set up microphones all round the perimiter. They then got the crown to stamp and grunt in unison. So that sound of the orcs marching is my Dad.

Brilliant. My dad, being a cricket lover and the parent who read all the Tolkien to us when we were little would be very envious!

@Abhannmor “by the sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged.”
I don’t know how to spell Warvan. My pronouns are dumb/dumber

And what do we think about their claims of PTSD? Also to be mocked, do you think?

Easily dealt with. Stay out of women's spaces.

Dadalus · 17/08/2026 20:37

I never got why fantasy authors put random punctuation into the names of character or species. If in your fantasy world, the humans had to translate some otherworldy name they'd heard into English, why wouldn't just do it phonetically? Who does the apostrophe help?

I generally assume it's in place of a glottle stop - as with the Lepsius letters. Or a sound we don't have a letter for in the Roman alphabet and they couldn't be bothered to check whether Lepsius or Paleotype had it covered. Fantasy authors, with one or two notable exceptions, tend to lack philological rigour.

As for the OP,
