"Over the past ten years the situation for LGBTI+ people in the UK has deteriorated. In particular there has been an organised backlash against trans people’s rights starting in 2017/18. This report maps the gender critical movement in the UK and the role of the media in normalising anti-trans rhetoric.

Our research shows that an organised gender critical movement emerged as a response to proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act in 2017/18 and has gained huge influence in public and political discourse since then.

Between January 2020 and April 2025, media coverage of issues about trans people has been excessively high compared to the size of the trans population, their role in society, and public interest in these topics.

Four outlets examined in the research published 17,000 articles between January 2020 and April 2025, an average of 9 articles per day and ‘gender critical’ framing became common over this period of time while the voices of trans people have been almost completely absent."

Amnesty signed a letter to remove rights from people with gender critical views, so quit it with the DARVO.

''The letter plainly calls for an end to giving them airtime, which must include being banned from the State’s national airwaves.
It refers to denying legitimate “representation for” them, not to “presentation of” them. The different meanings of these words are clear and unambiguous.''

What rights did they want to remove from GC people? Be specific

yourhairiswinterfire · 21/05/2026 21:58

Are there any other lists of law abiding people you feel do not deserve basic human rights?

Trans people fully deserve, and already have, the exact same human rights as everyone else in this country.

Women being allowed to get undressed, go to the toilet, access rape crisis support etc without men present isn't denying trans people basic human rights.

The right not to have men in female single sex spaces

MynameisnotJohn · 21/05/2026 22:01

Toilet privileges. You mean men using women’s toilets.
Bodily autonomy? Any adult can do what they want with their own body.
Identities? How can someone take that away? It’s internal. Can’t force anyone else to accept it though (eg Rachel Dolezal)
Healthcare? Get in the queue. Or fund it yourself. Nobody stopping you (unless you’re a child)
Dignity? Nobody can demand respect. I always treat people kindly but don’t have to agree with them and opinions are allowed. Plus that’s an odd one given the vitriol shown by TRA towards anyone not on script.

And please give examples of appalling things said about anyone murdered for being trans.

Not according to the EHRC segregationist guidance today they don’t.

irrespective of what GCs claim, thanks women are not “biological men” and most of us are not threatened by them.
Finally I don’t think YOU feel threatened by them either. I think you just want to hurt them.

Do you know that violence against women and girls by cis men has skyrocketed as billions are spent on vilifying and legislating against innocent trans women?

Have you thought that maybe it was you who has gone bad? Your reaction to them showing kindness to a group of largely blameless people that you hate seems a bit extreme

Oh aye. I'm just awful. Keep on with the ad homs pal. Always illuminating.

Its all fucking nonsense.

What? There's funding available????

EdithStourton · 21/05/2026 22:11

CharIi · 21/05/2026 21:45

I’m not listing them. You know what you want to take away from them (ranging from toilet privileges to their bodily autonomy, their very identities and their healthcare. And their dignity even in death. The APPALLING things you folks have said when a trans person is murdered or a trans kids has taken her life)
some of the things I’ve read on here, it’s hard to believe there’s any mums on Mumsnet

I’m not listing them.
I think you need to.
Because, along with many GC feminists, I'm all in favour of trans people having human rights. I just don't want men, however they identify, in women's changing areas, women's sports, women's prisons, offering intimate care to women who want a natal woman to do it.

I'm really not clear why the right of a man to come into a public toilet used by women, thus paving the way for any man who feels like it to follow him, is more important than the right of women to be safe. Men commit almost all the sex crime, and being trans-identified doesn't stop them.

Look folks,
much as I have enjoyed the relentless pile on in this trans eliminationist “not an echo chamber” I think I’m going to call it a night now.

I need a shower to wash the ick away.

I’m sure you will thoroughly enjoy the misery and hate the EHRC guidance will undoubtedly cause.

But seriously folks, most of you need mental help.

Keep piling on if you want. But I’m not coming back. Ever.

”Not an echo chamber … amber… mber…ber…er …r”

@CharIi you've clearly not been around here long enough to have noticed the rape survivors who cannot bear the idea of encountering a man in the ladies loos.
And actually, yes, I would feel deeply uncomfortable if somebody with a male physique followed me into a quiet ladies. I'd feel vulnerable - there is a ladies I sometimes use which isn't terribly busy, is tucked around a corner behind a heavy door. I've had enough unpleasant experiences with the male of the species to not want to meet a man in there.

EdithStourton · 21/05/2026 22:20

Why are TRAs always so fucking extreme?

I'll let Charli know when I get my cheque.

Along with common or garden misogyny.

RedToothBrush · 21/05/2026 22:28

When I was younger I supported and donated to amnesty. But I didn't have the money to continue to do so.

They then subsequently spent more money trying to re-ecruit me as a do or than I'd given them initially.

This taught me a very sad and cynical life lesson about how they were run.

I don't need to speak of the issue mentioned in the OP to identify the problem with Amnesty.
