"Over the past ten years the situation for LGBTI+ people in the UK has deteriorated. In particular there has been an organised backlash against trans people’s rights starting in 2017/18. This report maps the gender critical movement in the UK and the role of the media in normalising anti-trans rhetoric.

Our research shows that an organised gender critical movement emerged as a response to proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act in 2017/18 and has gained huge influence in public and political discourse since then.

Between January 2020 and April 2025, media coverage of issues about trans people has been excessively high compared to the size of the trans population, their role in society, and public interest in these topics.

Four outlets examined in the research published 17,000 articles between January 2020 and April 2025, an average of 9 articles per day and ‘gender critical’ framing became common over this period of time while the voices of trans people have been almost completely absent."

Gosh, some men are absolutely seething over that EHRC guidance, aren't they?

All PBPs it looks like.

I particularly liked 'sickened'. Who admits to being sickened they can't access unconsenting women??

Its gonna be a long hot summer of rage.

Its gonna be a long hot summer of rage.

True. But when is it not!

Losing their shit every time they are thwarted, which they will continue to be, because they are on the hopelessly, irredeemably, undeniably Wrong Side of History.

Everyone is entitled to their own views on different subjects. We can agree on one topic and disagree on others. For example, you'll see pro Palestine (anti Israel) stances from liberals, hard leftists, moderate Muslims, hard-core Islamists and the Far Right. I doubt they have many other opinions in common.

Falkner once signed an amendment against continuing abortion pills by post after lockdowns were lifted. No other notable stances.

Kelly Jay isn't a feminist and hasn't really claimed to be one. She holds views many GC people disagree with.

Miriam Cates is a socially conservative Tory.

Caroline Farrow is a Catholic and campaigns accordingly.

Never seen any evidence of Dennis Kavanaugh giving a shit one way or another.

Not heard of any of the others.

I doubt that Charli's list is accurate, but it's also worth pointing out that some of the organisations and people mentioned are gender conservative, not gender critical.

If organisations like Amnesty took the trouble to understand what gender critical feminists actually believe they would do a better job of defending the rights of the people they claim to be supporting.

Its gonna be a long hot summer of rage.

They'll thcream and thcream and thcream until they're sick.

I have completely lost patience with them. I used to be a gentle, tolerant type. I'm now so far over on ODFOD side that I can barely see my former self.

Thanks for that.....though this article seems mainly to do with accusations of nationalism and racism ( rather than 'rainbow' issues). He would certainly have referred to himself as a patriot, and came from a military background

Edited

The rainbow angle seems to be Chinese Whispers or deliberate misinformation, all reports I could find referred to xenophobic comments by Navalny. Amnesty later reinstated his status and apologized.

"Amnesty International has stripped the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny of his "prisoner of conscience" status after it says it was "bombarded" with complaints highlighting xenophobic comments that he has made in the past and not renounced. A spokesman for the human rights organisation in Moscow told the BBC that he believed the wave of requests to "de-list" Navalny was part of an "orchestrated campaign" to discredit Vladimir Putin's most vocal critic and "impede" Amnesty's calls for his release from custody." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56181084 (2021)

"A spokesman for Amnesty International told Reuters the original decision to revoke Navalny’s status was a “mistake”, explaining that the organisation had not taken the evolution in Navalny’s views into account and calling him “an unyielding advocate for human rights and freedoms”." https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/post-amnesty-decision-about-alexei-navalny-misses-key-context-2024-02-23/ (2024)

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny attends a hearing in Moscow, Russia, on 20 February 2021

Amnesty strips Alexei Navalny of 'prisoner of conscience' status

Amnesty strips him of the status but links it to an "orchestrated campaign" to discredit him.

HUMAN rights movement. You would defund an important organisation that fights tirelessly for ALL humans. Yes, including trans people, but also women. See below:-

Amnesty International champions the human rights of women and girls globally by holding governments accountable for ending discrimination, preventing gender-based violence, and fighting for sexual and reproductive rights. Their actionable work encompasses several key areas:
Decriminalizing Abortion & Healthcare Access: Amnesty campaigns to remove women from the criminal law related to abortion and ensures access to sexual and reproductive health services, having played a crucial role in historic reproductive rights victories like Ireland's 2018 abortion referendum.
Preventing Gender-Based Violence: They work to end impunity for rape and sexual violence in conflict zones, advocate for the establishment of domestic violence refuges, and continually fight against practices like forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).
Protecting Activists: Through initiatives such as the Global Women, Peace and Security Agenda and their broader casework, they actively monitor abuses and demand the release of jailed women human rights defenders worldwide.
Rights of Vulnerable Groups: They push for legal changes to protect survivors of trafficking, as well as champion the decriminalization of sex work to ensure the safety and human rights of sex workers are legally protected.
Global Campaigns: Through major movements like the My Body My Rights campaign, Amnesty mobilizes youth and communities to deconstruct cultural stigmas, combat sexual harassment, and demand bodily autonomy.

Yes, it’s interesting how many issues in the world adversely affect women purely because if their female sex.

On the one hand Amnesty claims to advocate for women but they simultaneously deny that women are a sex distinct from men by claiming that men are really women if they feel ‘like a woman’. When in reality, they literally have no idea what it is to be a woman.

Amnesty actively campaigning against the rights of women for single sex spaces and services and trying to silence the voices of women is not mitigated by any other campaigns they may claim to have.

It's notable that the regression of reproductive rights in America has been accompanied by a failure to acknowledge the group affected - women.

Under Amnesty's analysis, pregnancy is a one off, unpredictable event that could happen to anyone. No link to any other experience or life event and certainly no way of e.g. predicting who might become pregnant and limiting their educational opportunities.

It's a particularly shocking stance from Amnesty given the very serious repercussions for women in certain countries of simply being a woman - Afghanistan, Iran, India for starters. This issue really shouldn't be in question.
