I am 100% against surrogacy, but in fairness, you can just have sex and have a baby, without anybody assessing if you're going to be a good parent.

True! In my mind I was comparing it with adoption.

The Telegraph carried a story a few days ago about an American man trying to claim refigee status in the UK. He failed, of course, and yet he's still here. Of course.

Anyway, he had a 22 page letter from the relevant UK authority (Home Office?) detailing exactly why his application had failed. This young man wasn't trans, but he was an African-American, middle class graduate from a comfortable background so definite similarities with the overly-imaginitive characters here.

I watched their podcast video about him, it was downright fascinating how much he was prepared to do to validate his delusion that he was a refugee. He came across as very cynical when I watched his videos describing his behaviour.

once I’d got over my eye injury from rolling them too much at the headline I quite enjoyed the article
I would say giving them enough rope to hang themselves but that’s probably incitement

Sorry but 🤣🤣

Vodkamartini3olives · 21/01/2026 19:19

I'm sorry but what a whackadoddle!. She's probably friends the the Trans for Palestine lot who think they would have more rights there than California.

tropicaltrance · 21/01/2026 19:46

That's really tragic.

Jane's therapist encouraged him to leave and try to claim asylum. He basically says she was the person (one of the persons?) he trusted most in the world and since she thought he should, he did. He sounds like he has been surrounded by people affirming everything the whole way through.

The woman who dragged her daughter out of her home and out of school (her adopted biological granddaughter) to a refugee camp because she was panicking about racism (granddaughter is mixed race)... I don't think the reason her granddaughter has tried to end her life in the refugee camp is because of being "trans".

What a complete and utter mess for all of them.

I do have sympathy with people who were misled into believing that they could change sex and are now encountering reality. The solution isn't to continue pretending the lie is true though.

HildegardP · 21/01/2026 21:39

The Graun is just warming over the hyperbolic twaddle pumped out by Erin Reed & allied trades back in the first Trump term.
It was childish, self-dramatising hogwash then & remains so now.

junipery · 21/01/2026 22:09

we would be put into detention with men, and then that would lead to us being harmed or killed. And the method of execution is incarceration. I don’t think that the US government wants to murder me specifically. I think that they don’t care if I am murdered, and I think they think that I deserve it if I’m murdered in custody.”

The irony.

I used to post in a forum where there was woman who was convinced that the Trump government was going to come after her autistic child, and was, she said, keeping pills stockpiled so the whole family could commit suicide if it happened.

More disturbingly most of the other women in the discussion seemed to think that was a reasonable thought process. All just regular mums.

It does fit in with the hyperbole and tendency to hijack and twist more extensive suffering and make it me me me
Violence and discrimination against real women being the first stop

I found it interesting that several times in the podcast interview he described hearing about the experience of refugees from places like Iran as being "validating".

ADDICT ALERT
There is an addiction to the hormones. There is an addiction to the drama. There is an addiction to the forcing everyone else to suck it up. There is an addiction to their social status.

Addicts don't react well to the word no. They blame everyone else but themselves.

We still shouldn't cave in.

The drama and ‘look how special I am’ is definitely addictive.

It's almost like they 'get off' on it - the victim mentality and glomming onto someone else's oppression, which they do so well. They get so exited with identifying into catastrophe or oppression, him repeating 'validating' really gives the game away. He's using other people's trauma to for points and attention. He and those like him are truly scum. Lower than lower than low. It's like he and they know they have no justification and cannot stand on their own merits, it's why they have to cling to other people's trauma. They have no way to 'validate' their misogynist Mens Rights agenda otherwise. I have no doubt they actually get aroused by the multitude of suffering like what is happening in Iran. Imagine even thinking someone else's suffering 'validates' you? I mean, who thinks that? Other than a narcissistic sociopath.

Fortunately these people are trying to find a better and happier life that they can be satisfied with. Unlike the sexless, loveless, insecure, and often below average people who enjoy tearing others down when they have nothing else in their life. "Those who scream the loudest" suggests they have the most to hide, are weakest, or are seeking attention. For those who can identify with this attitude, definitely give yourself kudos because you deserve it!!

ArabellaScott · 23/01/2026 07:50

Pursuit of invented impossible fantasies in an escalating spiral as a result of disordered thinking and fetishist paraphilia is unlikely to bring anything that most people would call 'happiness'.

The most it will bring is brief gratification.

Definitely, these men screaming the loudest about needing 'validation' are simply after attention for their sad, loveless, insecure and sexless life so they need to hijack real suffering to feed their narcissistic, sociopathic typical male need for attention.

AMansAManForAllThat · 23/01/2026 09:02

These people don’t sound as if they can be satisfied. Nothing will be enough because they have built their identity upon martyrdom. It’s a bit like what used to be called ‘suicide by cop’. Create a scenario where your own choices paint you into a corner. Tada! Martyrdom.

Oh my goodness, I agree with @NumbersGuy on something! Never thought that would happen. This sentence describes TRAs perfectly.

I'd be interested to see how his experiences and salary at Uber compare with those of equally competent women - I seem to remember Uber management having a pretty serious sexual harassment case at one point.

Susan Fowler wrote about the sustained and aggressive sexual harassment she endured at Uber when working at Uber. Including her line manager demanding she have sex with him. She said sexual harassment was completely widespread throughout Uber and stemmed from the top down.

The founder and CEO was ultimately forced to resign by the board after these revelations came to light. Travis Kalanick used to joke about having a ‘gods view’ of being able to track everyone’s location at all times of those who had the Uber app on their phone. It’s one reason why I’ve never used the company and refuse to download the app. The data theft is also likely to be extensive.

Reflecting on one very, very strange year at Uber — Susan Fowler

As most of you know, I left Uber in December and joined Stripe in January. I've gotten a lot of questions over the past couple of months about why I left and what my time at Uber was like. It's a strange, fascinating, and slightly horrifying story that...

Completely agree about feeling sympathetic to those sold the gender lie.

Perhaps not so much for the older male except that some autistic people are so so suggestible, reactive, and susceptible to other’s comments. A careless comment by one person, can lead to life changing consequences for the autistic person. It is, however, heartbreaking for that child in the story. And it’s a tragedy for thousands of children and young adults who have succumbed to the madness of gender ideology, which is damaging their lives.

The worst to come out of this story is the sickening exploitation by The Guardian. That one time great newspaper has been ruined under Viner.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 23/01/2026 09:56

It's one of the smaller things that pisses me off about the whole thing - these men who believe they exist "as women" have no concept of how much of their life opportunities were shaped and eased by being men.

[Edited to note this replies to the discussion about sexism at Uber not the post just preceeding]
