Survey on culture in the UK - 'trans rights' questions

ArabellaSaurus · 08/11/2025 21:12

New survey

19% of people say 'trans rights have not gone far enough' in the UK.
39% say 'trans rights have gone too far'.

That's a really big change in the past five years.

'The proportion who say transgender rights have gone too far in the UK has more than doubled since 2020, from 17% to 39%, though overall there is still no public consensus on the issue, with 19% now saying transgender rights have not gone far enough, 27% saying they’ve gone as far as they should, and a further 15% not giving an opinion.
The proportion of people who say transgender rights have gone too far has doubled among all age groups – even 16-24s, where one in five (19%) now feel this way, compared with around one in 10 (9%) in 2020. However, young people are still more likely to say transgender rights have not gone far enough (36%).'

I'm a cis male who identifies as a male.
Women also have testosterone naturally accuring, some a lot more than others. It is not only harmless it also increases a woman's libido, and is recommended for those going through menopause (sorry if that feels like mansplaining, it just goes with this particular conversation).

Gosh do you really think us silly women aren't aware that we have naturally occurring (very very low) amounts of testosterone in our bodies? 🙄. It doesn't make us a little bit male though.

Aw, bless.

If you are new here, read the archives.

Most of us actually would have said similar to you, light years ago.

But the longer we live and the more we think, the more we learn and the clearer we see, and the world is not going to stop abusing and marginalising female people just because someone decides the name for people with our bodies can't be "women" any more because some sad men need to be called "women" too.

So as long as sexism is based on our bodies, the protections against it need to be based on our bodies as well.

Because whatever trans women are experiencing (and once you get past menaingless platitudes into actual examples I have never ever heard it described as anything that does not eventually boil down to that man simply having reductive, simplistic and often downright offensive ideas about how women think and live) it is manifestly not the same thing as being female bodied.

And once you stop putting all your attention on what trans women want and start to ask why is it that, given trans women are not female and therefore their "womanhood" cannot be dependant on being female, whatever it is that they need for their womahood cannot exist alongside social, political and legal recognitin of female people and out rights and needs, you realise that there is no answer to that question, and that what trans women are demanding under the banner of safety and acceptance for trans people is really just about their need to access and control women by utterly stamping out female people;s right to self define and self organise without them.

@Gnasher1981 As @FlirtsWithRhinos said, I think a lot of us started off from your "nuanced" position and thought that it was possible to compromise on single sex spaces / single sex sports etc - it really is not possible. You cannot have rules that let in a few "harmless" males without opening up to all and sundry - and letting in any males makes the space de facto mixed sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/11/2025 17:33

im sorry “Gnasher” I can’t take any of your posts remotely seriously 🤷‍♀️

We don't let those men into a toilet or changing room with girls.

When you declare TWAW, you allow men into toilets and changing rooms with girls, creating an opportunity to molest that didn't previously exist.

Considering the number of priests who have abused children, have you tried banning preists from public toilets to stop them abusing children?

Why not? The trans person will be harmless, and there are also cis male gynecologists so why not a trans one?

Lots of women refuse to see male gynaecologists, though. It would be especially harmful to ask to see a female gynaecologist and have a male one show up - by the way - this has already happened.

Because if a woman is happy with having a male gyno fair enough. If a woman is not happy with having a male gyno it is not ok for a man to pretend to be a woman gyno and treat her.

That would be harmful because it goes against the woman's consent.

(Why am I bothering??!)

Anarkandanaardvark · 09/11/2025 17:34

@Gnasher1981 Please explain why my teenage daughter and her friends should have to change and shower with a 50 year old male?

  • The amount of testosterone that women have naturally is tiny compared to that of men.
  • The loss of oestrogen and progesterone adversely affects women's health, causing osteoporosis.
SigourneyHoward · 09/11/2025 17:35

Are you an abusive male @Gnasher1981 - do you worry you couldnt control your anger if a TW used the correct sexed space such as a toilet. Is that why you want the women to budge up and protect the TW from your wrath?

I dunno, I'm pretty sure I'm starting to grow a pair of bollocks just reading this thread.

How and why was it that priests abused children? Was it because they were in a sacred castle noone could question? What could the similarities with trans identifying males be?

JFC.

Priests, being men, are banned from the women's loos, safeguarding girls. TW, being men, are banned from the women's loos, safeguarding girls.

Safeguarding of boys is inherently more complicated. It's one of the reasons why boys below the age of eight are tolerated in female spaces when out with their mothers. One way in which boys can be safeguarded is for their fathers to accompany them into toilets.

No one is talking about banning TW from public toilets. They can use the gents. Nice try.

It doesn’t feel like mansplaining- it is mansplaining. Telling a bunch of women, many of whom are peri/menopausal that not only do we have testosterone (thanks- we know) but that some women take it during menopause (thanks-we know).

Neither of these facts makes it ethical to give large amounts of testosterone to young women which can negatively impact the heart and can cause psychiatric problems.

Why not? The trans person will be harmless, and there are also cis male gynecologists so why not a trans one?

Why do you feel that decision is for you to make rather than women?

Do you feel you have a better insight into what it is to be female, to live with the experiences of being female-bodied, than the people who actually have female bodies do?

Have you ever had a smear test? Had to deal with a tampon leak? Taken maternity leave and dealt with the professional impact? Had to reduce your hours to care for children? Got divorced and ended up with 80% of the childcare but only 30% of the money because your ex lied? Have you ever been invisible in a meeting despite being the most qualified person there? Do you know what it is like to be stared at like food by a group of men? Do you know how it feels to focus on not catching the eye of someone who is looking at you in the gym or when jogging? How many times have you been sexually assualted in your life?

Heggettypeg · 09/11/2025 17:44

Gnasher1981 · 09/11/2025 17:31

But you have just accepted that this same woman needs same sex help in a rape crisis centre, so how is she miraculously going to feel different about intruding males in other situations where she is vulnerable and why are her feelings suddenly invalid? Especially when she's trapped in a secure ward; if anything it's worse.
And how do you know the trans person will be harmless? You have no idea who they are.

Why don't you do something about it? FFS.

Please show me where I have said testosterone harms women, because I haven't (it does if present in excess) but I haven't mentioned testosterone on this thread until my response to your 'hey ladies, fun fact you have testosterone too' post.
