Montgomery Toms has been arrested for wearing a sign showing the pink & blue stripes of trans=mental illness.

Arrested. What has happened to free speech in this country?

They were supporting the group calling for an end to genocide

Madness

Its a proscribed terrorist group like Hamas etc.

GreenFriedTomato · 05/07/2025 18:35

No. They weren't simply calling for an end to genocide. They were sat there all holding signs that stated 'i support (the organisation) Palestine Action'
They were openly supporting a terrorist group.

If they had simply been chanting Free Palestine like they do in many cities every weekend, no arrests would have been made.

It was for their support of said group.

It’s absurd and wrong they’re designated as such a group for calling out genocide and apartheid but then so was the ANC founded by Nelson Mandela only for the government later to acknowledge that their actions were part of larger struggle.

Pride is meant to celebrate gay and lesbian people-same sex attracted people.

The notion of trans people just doesn't fit in when advocating for gay/lesbians.

The only way to protect gay/lesbian youths is to shield them from transgender ideology

Don’t leave out Bi’s

So was the ANC founded by Nelson Mandela … what’s your point?

The point is you can’t support them online or offline. It’s illegal to do so.

Breaking into an RAF base and defacing military planes might not have been their best idea. If they'd just stuck to 'peacefully calling out genocide ..

happydappy2 · 05/07/2025 19:25

Our tax money funds the police…..they are meant to work on our behalf to fight crime & keep us safe…..something has gone very wrong if peacefully expressing an opinion (that is demonstrably true) gets you arrested.

It's inflammatory.

Inflammatory isn't criminal though.

Wearing a shirt saying 'Trans woman are men' or 'no such thing as a lesbian with a penis' could be considered inflammatory but it isn't a crime and definitely doesn't warrant arrest.

Calling out some of the most horrific crimes against humanity in modern history isn’t illegal hence their designation being absurd. There are a lot of ‘laws’ that would make you gasp.

The experts think it is genocide because it's blooming obvious it is and everyone who denies it had their own agenda despite what Norma on the 'net says

I'm amazed there are police available to arrest people for badge wearing offences whatever the badge might say

Norma can have her say too.

It would have been absolutely bonkers 15 years ago for these things to be inflammatory

TheCatsTongue · 05/07/2025 19:51

You can call out war crimes and genocide, but you don't need to cause £7m worth of damage to do so.

I would also assume that the Palestine protesters arrested today were on vandalism charges too because they threw red paint over a vehicle and tried to hold up the whole parade.

Right.

Whereas a sign saying Death to TERFS is just a jolly old jape and all those silly women shouldn't be so oversensitive.

This is a good point. Why are women so dismissed when violence is expressed?

Wait till you read about this group called the suffragettes who used a bunch of militant and violent tactics …

As far as I'm aware it wasn't one group The Suffragettes TM, there were many groups and the more violent ones weren't entirely popular with other suffrage groups.

Well sure but if you’re up for supporting a terrorist organisation right now you might see what happens. Up to you on how far you want to take it.

There's nothing showing on google on this.

"trans mental illness - gay pride arrest", the only result is this thread.

Regardless, only a knuckledragging meathead would sink to such depths by carrying a placard that tells trans people, celebrating their identity in a pride march, they are mentally ill.

You don't believe this to be a condition of the mind?

Toffeelover · 05/07/2025 20:05

Now if he’d worn a sign saying “Brexit voters = mental illness”. How would you feel?

it’s provocative and it doesn’t contribute to proper dialogue. Let’s be honest — publicly calling trans people mentally ill isn’t just “opinion,” it’s stoking stigma and harm. We wouldn’t accept signs saying “Jewish = dangerous” or “Black = criminal.” So why are we demonising trans people whether they have mental illness or not. Unless you’re a psychiatrist you shouldn’t have a view on others mental health

Until quite recently gender dysphoria WAS categorised as a mental illness.....

As was being gay.

Your point is? The DSM changes and as we get more knowledge we change our medical understanding. "Hysteria" was a mental illness of females until 1980.

When we know better we do better.
