NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #10

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

Oh bog off DU - I have a trans colleague who didn't feel the need to loudly shout out their trans status to us. I only knew they were trans as they are now in the process of de-transitioning. OTOH, I have felt the need to disclose SA i experienced as a child, which took place in the bathroom, when my employer was contemplating changing single sex toilet facilities to mixed use (thankfully the idea was shelved)

Amazing viewing tho this is, I am not sure citing him as a respondent will pay off. He has not put a fucking foot wrong. Most would have crumbled under this questioning. He has been largely calm and collected. He is a true believer, so has been entirely internally consistent. He is very articulate, and precise in his answers.

To some people he will seem to be so very reasonable. And Sandie maybe a bit of a bigoted harridan who could have handled herself differently.

I wonder whether going up just against the Trust would have been better?

I really don't think he comes across as reasonable at all. The dominance display is quite something.

This has been one of the most uncomfortable and mind-boggingly unbelievable five hours of my life I think
