I'm not watching or listening but, from the reports, I don't think there is any need for NC to pull this back. She is giving DU plenty of rope and letting him use it to hang himself. She doesn't need to challenge him.
The kind of aggressive cross examination you see in on tv or in films is not realistic. There are limits to what a barrister can do. You can ask, "you left your daughter alone for 2 hours, didn't you", but you can't ask, "you are a bad mother, aren't you". It is generally a bad idea to accuse a witness of lying, or to comment on the quality of their answer, or to argue with them when you disagree with their answer - all things you see regularly in dramas. However, you can comment on the quality of a witness's evidence in your closing remarks.
