Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

BU - if such a person was a real person, not imagination, it would prompt a lot of tricky conversations in wider society as what we view as gender, womanhood, gender expression, in a transhpobic society, there are unfortunately prejudices, lack of willingness to explore gender expression, I've spoken to early transitioning trans people, we aren't delusional or fantasists -crackly sound -

Transpeople are not unaware of what they look like.

You will find acknowledgement where society isn't at a stage where it understands gender as a messy [unclear] we want to be treated with respect and dignity and to be safe, if Pete is a GNC woman, she may feel unable to .... [inaudible] discussion with workplace, we don't know what stage Pete is at, I know GNC transwoman, but this level of bullishness is frankly unbelievable.

NC - if Pete is bearded (etc etc) and he says he can use this changing room, do you think that would be his right?

wrt this irritating and frequently aired 'gotcha', for light relief I refer people who may have missed it to the pub chat between a FWR MNer and a farmer with a bull that includes some useful observations.

He is a dairy farmer. He said he sometimes has the bollocks of his bulls removed to calm them down (those he’d be selling for meat). But, funnily enough, once the bollocks were removed, he wouldn’t suddenly be able to milk them. They would be bulls without bollocks (but bulls they would be).
We reflected pleasantly on the arrogance of some people thinking that we are a different kind of mammal.
