She writes:

Men with profitable platforms who are just beginning to realise it may no longer be in your best interests to call us feminists/allies 'bigots' and 'transphobes', and now pretend to understand that the tide is turning, do you REALLY think we haven't kept all the receipts....?!

Oh dear, Campbell and Stuart, I think she might have hit on something there ... YOur dismissive attitudes to women's rights (to single sex spaces, fair sports, safety if imprisoned, ability to name what and who we are, ability to use our language about our bodies) - yes all those unimportant things - turns out they were actually pretty significant in the world's most powerful country.

Brava Ms Duffield!

Campbell has had the bare-faced cheek to invite JK Rowling onto The Rest is Politics to discuss her views.

On the other hand, he could actually just read what she's written about the subject over the past three years, couldn't he? Educate himself.

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 15:16

They have an insane level of cloth eared arrogance that pair.

When he talks about "not having done the research" what he means is he's not read or investigated any of the literature, books, or transcripts that have been available for years. He's simply shut it all out....and taken his daughter's word for it.

What has Jk said?

teawamutu · 11/11/2024 15:19

When did Campbell say it? Unutterably arrogant cockwomble.

What has Jk said?

Effectively that his claims of ignorance, and sudden realisation that this has become an issue ( because Nigel Farrage told him so) are down to his having not listened to what women have been saying for years. He responded by saying he listens to his wife and daughter

Two very privileged women. So not an echo chamber at all then. Jolly good.

They both live in that north London bubble, I imagine.......that most senior Labour party people mix in these days.

The arrogance of the man. Mate, she's out of TRIP's league.

She'd wipe the fucking floor with him though. He sets my teeth on edge these days, but I'd tune in for that.

Don't you just love it when a man wades into the debate after several years and says we need "less polarisation" and "more attempt at understanding"?

That's several years of women trying to be polite, but being thrown off Twitter, losing their jobs, receiving death threats, having abuse shouted at them as they go into meetings and being reported to the police. And we are being asked to try harder at understanding?

Westfacing · 11/11/2024 15:37

I no longer listen to the smug self-congratulating pair.

I said it at the time but it's worth repeating - on a Q&A they were asked what their parents did and both answered by telling what their fathers did, with no mention of their mothers. It was corrected the following week when listeners pointed out their omissions.

RoyalCorgi · 11/11/2024 15:40

To quote Victoria Smith:

"It is infuriating to witness – from those now suggesting that it was always possible to advocate for compromise – the absolute refusal to address the fact that if you say anything that suggests trans women differ from other women (beyond them being the most marginalised women), you have already committed a sin so heinous it will be used to justify the most violent punishment. It does not matter how polite you are in making your case. Indeed, politeness will be viewed as “dogwhistle hate” because trans activists will correctly infer that you are nevertheless still noticing that male people are not female people (that you are being generous enough not to say this directly is viewed as devious, in a manner not dissimilar to the way in which wives who lie to appease abusive husbands tend to called manipulative). Every single person who has ever lectured a feminist on the need for “more light, less heat” needs to grasp this: the last thing people who have staked their entire identities on a lie want is light, even when passed through the softest of filters. That’s why, whenever organisations such as Woman’s Place UK sought to discuss a way forward, trans activists responded with more and more heat. Light, to trans activism, is an existential threat."

It's the even more pompous version of 'more light, less heat'.

When the light was only absent because NO MAN WAS FUCKING LISTENING and the heat burns so fiercely because WE'RE FUCKING FURIOUS THAT NO MAN WAS LISTENING AND NOW THEY'RE FUCKING LECTURING US.

I would love to hear JK Rowling on leading. I really hope she does this. And that they honour the offer and do it properly -rather than setting it up as a debate or something!

I'm sure she has better things to do though!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2024 15:54

She rarely does interviews, I think.

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 15:57

They're offering to speak to Jk; what about the hundreds of other women who can speak eloquently about this?

If I were JK I'd say "not till you've watched the trans widows documentary and spoken to <insert any woman who's publicly at the forefront of this>"

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 15:57

God Helen Joyce would be a JOY to listen to with those two,

As I recall, when Labour Party graciously offered to talk to JKR (after her pre-election piece in the Times) she replied that they should first speak to all the women in their own party who'd been trying to attract their attention for years. I think a similar response to Alistair Campbell would be on point.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 11/11/2024 16:03

Second Helen Joyce if JKR doesn't want to do it.

I'd imagine when it comes to keeping her temper with dismissive arrogant ignorant misogynists HJ would be great!

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 11/11/2024 16:05

Ohh yes, How about Rosie Duffield herself?

And frankly it's a waste of JKR's time, I'm waiting for the next Strike!
