She writes:

Men with profitable platforms who are just beginning to realise it may no longer be in your best interests to call us feminists/allies 'bigots' and 'transphobes', and now pretend to understand that the tide is turning, do you REALLY think we haven't kept all the receipts....?!

Oh dear, Campbell and Stuart, I think she might have hit on something there ... YOur dismissive attitudes to women's rights (to single sex spaces, fair sports, safety if imprisoned, ability to name what and who we are, ability to use our language about our bodies) - yes all those unimportant things - turns out they were actually pretty significant in the world's most powerful country.

Brava Ms Duffield!

Quite!

As they're both ex government, why not Rosie?!

illinivich · 11/11/2024 16:16

Its Rory Stewart who is the snake in that pair. AS has always been the same. RS made comments about men in womens prisons then when offered podcast cash changed his view.

Kendodd · 11/11/2024 16:17

RoyalCorgi · 11/11/2024 15:14

Campbell has had the bare-faced cheek to invite JK Rowling onto The Rest is Politics to discuss her views.

On the other hand, he could actually just read what she's written about the subject over the past three years, couldn't he? Educate himself.

She should definitely go on it.

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 16:17

I remember the news article he did - i wonder if that's what instigated all the grimacing on that clip?

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 16:19

They're getting a proper arse handing on plate on Twitter. What a joy.

cheezncrackers · 11/11/2024 16:20

Alistair Campbell has always been an arrogant tosser - he hasn't changed.

YellowAsteroid · 11/11/2024 16:20

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 15:57

They're offering to speak to Jk; what about the hundreds of other women who can speak eloquently about this?

If I were JK I'd say "not till you've watched the trans widows documentary and spoken to <insert any woman who's publicly at the forefront of this>"

They won't have the same star power & influence as Ms Rowling, and the experience of dealing with tough questions and publicity. It's great we have women like Ms Rowling & Dr Joyce to speak on behalf of many women, as they are both very media savvy, and trained to be so - it's really not as easy as they make it look.

They both live in that north London bubble, I imagine.......that most senior Labour party people mix in these days.

It's funny how the north v south thing comes up in this conversation time and again.

Women of the North seem to be particularly focused on rights.

The fact that class or how much you mix outside your class is very much linked to geographical location in this country is fascinating.

Men who live in a middle class bubble seem to be amongst the most tone deaf there are.

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 16:24

I know but I think he's just acting all star struck. Plus I think JK would suggest others before herself as a pp said re fab

It would be fabulous to hear her on there.

i think she should take a friend so it's more equal. Joyce, Bindel, or even someone less well known such as a trans widow or the children of the transitioners woman. (Apologies can't remember names.)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2024 16:24

I hope she does this - the sunlight would be spectacular.

I agree. There would be a meltdown from the usual quarters as well.

I wonder what his daughter thought of him even making the offer.

He really does come across as a wally in that X thread.

FranticFrankie · 11/11/2024 16:26

Grace Campbell is a ‘feminist powerhouse’
Apparently
And a comedian (I’d agree with that last one anyway)
Certainly makes me laugh

WarriorN · 11/11/2024 16:27

Men who live in a middle class bubble seem to be amongst the most tone deaf there are.

And no backbone.

I'm reminded of Gia Milinovich shredding Adam Rutherford on Twitter last week; that what he says in private is at odds with his tra nonsense.

This is Probably Rory too.

YellowAsteroid · 11/11/2024 16:27

Yes @RedToothBrush - although I know of (have friends in) pockets of wokeness in the NW and Scotland. It's the profession I'm in, I think. I know I'm part of a "metropolitan elite" even though I live in a region pretty remote from the metropole.

It's like the divisions observed in the US election: the two coasts and then middle America - which some elites on the east coast call "fly over country."

Ugh, just writing that made me realise just how much certain parts of us metropolitan elites need to get our heads out of our arses.

Grace Campbell is an abject cool girl handmaid. Laughable, yes. Funny, press X to doubt.

Gia Milinovich is kick arse - her blog & now her podcast. So smart.

Exactly. He thinks he can just call JKR in and she'll be grateful for the platform to put her case. If you really want to educate yourself, DO SOME RESEARCH, reach out to the LWD, WPUK, FPforW. Never heard of Sex Matters, apparently. Doesn't want to talk to Victoria Smith. Or Hadley Freeman. Not interested in Helen Joyce or Kathleen Stock. No KJK for him. Sharron Davies? Nope.
No, it has to be the Queen, the top woman. Only she will do. Only JKR is big enough to speak to him, Alastair Campbell.
Tough shit. She's busy, Al.

And no, this invitation was not issued because JKR happened to be the one who engaged with him on this. Many women have tried to talk to him over several years.

Christinapple · 11/11/2024 16:33

Why do people with gender critical views keep saying "the tide is turning"?

Looking at any group photo of the LGBAlliance or the KJK rallies almost everyone there is from the older generations. Amongst the younger generations almost everyone is LGBT supportive including trans. And anytime the two groups meet at a rally/protest you can clearly see it's basically older generation vs younger generation.

What are the plans for the great gender critical movement in 10, 20, 30 years? The number of gender critical people will be much lower and the remaining ones will be mostly elderly and the now-young generation who are trans-supportive will be the ones in charge of the Gov and media.

The tide will turn yes, but not the way you think or want it to.

Someone made a very valid point about Rory Stewart in the fall out of his predictions re the US elections which he got terribly wrong. It was something like how Stewart demonstrates how far a posh accent and private education can take a a person.

I also agree with snake in the grass, while in Government he claimed to understand, now he is pretending its all new to him.

Westfacing · 11/11/2024 16:34

I'm just chuckling to myself at the memory of when there was to be a Hollywood movie made about Stewart's time in Afghanistan with Brad Pitt in the title role! Grin

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 16:35

If these twits finally want to know what women have been talking about they can have a reading list.

Helen Joyce's 'Trans'
'Hags' by Victoria Smith
'Time to think' by Hannah Barnes
'Hounded ' by Jenny Lindsay
'Feminism for women ' by Julie Bindel

The Cass Report.
The WPATH files.

'Break it down for me' on here.

Women have been busy while they have been polishing their halos.

bubonic · 11/11/2024 16:36

I am very aware of the pockets of wokeness in the NW.

I don't pander to it anymore and I'm finding it remarkable how even in the pockets of wokeness if the conversation crops up these days (not started by me I might add), it's tending to be a lot more nuanced.

I've been getting out the sledgehammer a lot more in recent years. Once the conversation has dropped and opened up, that it.

It's interesting how it has become an organic topic of conversation too.

It's particularly of why, I'm just so unsurprised by the US last week.

There's been far too many middle class idiots who have got caught asleep at the wheel and the election has just made them wake up and go "huh?"

Firstfrost · 11/11/2024 16:38

When did Campbell suddenly realise the tide might be turning and want to 'learn'?Asking as it was only a few days ago that he was sneering at women's rights by dismissing women's concerns, saying that hardly anyone knows someone who's had a sex change anyway. I tweeted him about it at the time
