Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

They are literally trying to hand the election to Trump.

Fair and balanced coverage, including mention of other similar cases? In the Guardian?

Is that a flock of pigs I see fluttering past?

As I mentioned before, it's the Independent you want to be worried about. The G is at least showing the odd sign of coming to its senses.

Hi bignosebignose

bignosebignose · 19/08/2024 12:57

How's tricks, SinnerBoy?

SinnerBoy · 19/08/2024 14:33

Oh, not bad, thanks. Home alone, as my wife and sister have taken the girl on a little round Britain holiday. It gave me a chance to rick my back finish splitting the logs.

Britinme · 20/08/2024 16:54

Who'd'a thunk it, eh?

And I just listened to a fair chunk of a radio programme on NPR about LGBTQ in professional sports in which the only attention given to the transgender issue was to query whether in fact transwomen had any competitive advantage in women's sports. And of course, to say how vile people who questioned transgender inclusivity in sports at all levels were.

Wonderful Twitter post today:

Prof. Gary Francione

We associate "left" with social and cultural equality, egalitarianism, reform, rights, freedom, progress, etc. Trans ideology promotes the idea that men can define what women are and can arrogate sex-based rights. There is nothing "left" about that. On the contrary.

And so say all of us, etc.

I've just spent a few minutes looking at Prof. Francione's tweets. He's got no time for gender bollocks. One of the good guys?

I've never heard of him before, going to look him up now. Always good to hear voices speaking up.

The Independent hires at least one writer who belongs to the Prostasia Foundation.
When I wrote to the editor about it, he tried to dismiss it, and said the Indy didnt employ him and yet 2 years later his articles are still commissioned.

Terrific use of English. He isn't employed as a payroll employee, he is commissioned to write occasional articles.

@ The Independent: we can still see you.

What has happened to the curfew thread?
Have the incels reported it?

Kucinghitam · 23/08/2024 20:14

Whilst I wasn't surprised by the Giggle v Tickle verdict, I'm still feeling quite gloomy about it. What the hell has gone wrong with supposedly "educated" "highly-qualified" judges etc, that they so confidently believe such utter mumbo-jumbo?

OP posts:
bignosebignose · 23/08/2024 20:31

in happier news. I’m only seven hours late in noticing that JKR is back in town and not, as TRAs were fantasising, showing many signs of running scared.

Britinme · 23/08/2024 21:04

Is there a higher court she can appeal to?

duc748 · 23/08/2024 21:05

The Giggle v Tickle verdict is indeed depressing, Kuc. Not least, the inference that it could affect jurisdiction in other countries. And terrible news for Aussie women.

SinnerBoy · 24/08/2024 11:51

Is there a higher court she can appeal to?

Yes, the High Court is the most senior in Australia. She already has about $579, 000 of her $850,000 target.
