Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

No Afghan woman's asylum claim should be refused, but particularly not ones like this: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/apr/05/afghan-rights-defender-told-she-faces-no-risk-from-taliban-as-home-office-denies-asylum

How absolutely wrong, and shameful.

Sammidge · 08/04/2025 19:53

Hi everyone, angelico/fenderstrat here again, after a long break. So lovely to see familiar and respected names.

I've been winding down on JtT. My sense is that apart from a handful of posters, there is little support for gender ideology now, though some still buy into a "progressive" ideology wholesale. A few posters carrying the GC flag in the usual places. Been some very unpleasant bullying of the only new poster seen there for years, too, by some of that same handful, notably davdan*, who was recently roundly trounced by helenD, after - incredibly - denying he'd been a nasty bastard during JtS's dummy-spitting episode.

In general, and despite this shift toward GC, it's pretty dull there.

I'd like to rejoin you lot when I can on the issues but couldn't log on for a while and missed all your discussions about the Nurse Peggie stuff. My health is a bit rotten, terrible arthritis crippling me, potential cancer, and all complicated by having an MI during an operation for tachycardia a couple of months ago. My recommendation, for anyone planning to have a heart attack, is to have it in the cath lab, surrouded by brilliant doctors and nurses, while you are asleep!

Love to you all x

MarieDeGournay · 08/04/2025 20:04

Sammidge, our paths haven't crossed here before, but I'm sending you every good wish for better health in the future, and looking forward to seeing your username again, maybe during the next instalment of the Sandie Peggie v NHS Fife tribunal later in the year.

duc748 · 08/04/2025 20:18

Sorry to hear of your further health woes, @Sammidge. Do keep popping in! 😀

Kucinghitam · 08/04/2025 20:20

Glad to see you back @Sammidge, sorry to hear of your health problems Flowers and please keep popping in to see us! (Also come to the Lair if you feel up to it).

NoBinturongsHereMate · 08/04/2025 20:39

If you're going to have a heart attack, that's definitely the best option, @Sammidge. But I'd rather you didn't do it again. Good to see you back.

DeanElderberry · 08/04/2025 20:45

Yay! Nice to see you.

Sammidge · 08/04/2025 21:09

Thank you, everyone. You warm my old heart.

We're moving this week to a shared ownership house which will mean we are mortgage free and pay a reasonable (and capped) rent. My dear angelica will be able to afford it when I fall off the perch (which I'm not planning to do soon!)

Britinme · 08/04/2025 23:10

Hi @Sammidge - good to see you here and sorry to hear about health woes. My DH (10$mith) still goes on JtT but tends to stick to a very few threads.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 09/04/2025 05:44

Hi Sammidge welcome. It’s interesting what you say about gender bollocks not generally being supported on JtT these days. I hope that that is true of these rest of the Guardian-reading older demographic of these isles.
I’m sorry to hear about your health issues.

SinnerBoy · 09/04/2025 06:34

Hi Sammidge, welcome back! Sorry to hear of your health woes and I second your plan to not shuffle off just yet!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 09/04/2025 09:17

Hello Sammidge, nice to see you again. JtT sounds like it's really run out of steam, but we've got plenty here!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 09/04/2025 09:57

For those not following the blackball pool tribunal (I hadn't been, having had a bit of tribunal fatigue after the recent intense run) it looks as of it may be high on entertainment value

https://x.com/WitchyMcWitch/status/1909263576461693027?

The claimant (HH) appears to have the intellectual calibre you'd expect from someone who chooses to bring R-M-W to a battle of wits. And it's never a good sign when your barrister gets their first irritated correction from the judge mere seconds into the opening remarks. (R-M-W opened with 1966 proving that sport is important to people in the UK; Judge corrected to England.)

duc748 · 09/04/2025 11:00

I'm not doing page by page on the tribunal, but following the story with interest. What was I thinking on Sunday when all this excitement was going on in my back-yard? 😄

PuffinCliffs · 09/04/2025 17:31

It seems in today’s instalment the claimant (the man wanting to play women’s pool) has brought along an expert who has been busy doing computer models - using American rules and ball weights not English ones. And they admitted men can hit the balls harder.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 09/04/2025 22:09

The 'expert' in question being specifically an expert in subatomic particles. 🤣

ErrolTheDragon · 09/04/2025 22:44

NoBinturongsHereMate · 09/04/2025 22:09

The 'expert' in question being specifically an expert in subatomic particles. 🤣

Weirdly enough that sounds quite reasonable to me. If you can model those, then macroscopic balls with no quantum effects to worry about should be pretty easy.Grin

NoBinturongsHereMate · 09/04/2025 22:48

As far as the behaviour of the balls go, yes, it's not unreasonable. But the balls do not act in isolation, and the question at issue is the physiology of the people exerting the forces on the balls.

Kucinghitam · 10/04/2025 10:01

I'd say that the balls whose behaviour we're concerned about are not the balls on the table...

We're going to need a new thread soon.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/04/2025 16:41

FWS/ScotGov decision on what a woman is to be announced 16 April, 9.45 am.

And a particular highlight from the Pool case thread:

CriticalCondition · Today 15:47
Defence Counsel interjects to quietly point out to RMW that RMW is now asking the witness about material that was stricken from evidence on RMW's own application last week.

duc748 · 10/04/2025 16:44

Like so much; it's funny, but it's not funny.
