Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Wow, that's a lot of donations!

SinnerBoy · 24/08/2024 13:10

Yes, isn't it just!

Tallisker · 24/08/2024 14:33

Is that on top of what she raised for this most recent court case?

mach2 · 28/08/2024 06:40

I'm pretty much agog at Tickle Vs Giggle. I never thought that Australians of all people would drink the kool-aid.

Snowypeaks · 28/08/2024 07:03

Desperate to shake off the image they had from the "White Australian" immigration policy days, maybe?

SinnerBoy · 28/08/2024 13:19

So, he's going to ruin the women's records forever. Isn't that marvellous?

I never seen that photo of Petrillo before. They must have looked very hard to find such a flattering one.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 28/08/2024 17:32

And one that makes the shoulders look smaller and arms thinner than they really are...

duc748 · 28/08/2024 18:07

Now you mention it, that upper arm looks thinner than the forearm! Which is not what you'd expect!

The Labour Party have just noticed that I cancelled my sub, so I've had an email checking up from them. Just finished a long screed explaining my lack of enthusiasm for Labour, and why I didn't vote for them.

lcakethereforeIam · 28/08/2024 18:18

The sunlight makes the back of his arm disappear which makes it look slimmer. I think his face being in the shade is also blurring his features. Still got massive hands though, nail varnish can't hide that.

Sorry, I meant to quote @dduc748

That's taking the whole binary thing the only way it can go in a world of you can change your biological sex and there are not two genders but mulitples and anyway I'm non-binary which means I'm neither a man or a woman or both a man and a woman which also means I believe the binary exists despite saying there is no binary it's mulitples. Oh look! The third binary. Maybe I'm that. You'll never know!

AlisonDonut · 29/08/2024 20:32

I think if asked I'd go with Third Binary. Just to see what happens.

duc748 · 29/08/2024 20:46

Third binary, third rock from the sun, It's got a ring to it.

lcakethereforeIam · 30/08/2024 09:17

Third binary, isn't it the one you put green waste in?

I'd seen this article in the Telegraph, and finally decided to read it

https://archive.ph/yg82G

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/wellbeing/mental-health/walking-ahead-peculiar-traits-of-a-narcissist/

This bit

Prioritising strangers over family

Amanda Macdonald, a BACP-registered therapist, reveals: “A narcissist wants to draw people in and impress them. So when they first meet someone, they will be their funniest, cleverest, most alluring self. That’s why they often present their inflated personality to a stranger more readily than members of their own family who may see through the veneer and question what’s really going on. A stranger is a clean slate, they provide the perfect opportunity of a listening ear for the narcissist’s verbose campaign of endorsement.” Macdonald also says she sees few narcissists in her therapy practice. “This is because therapy is based on an understanding of self, and it’s almost impossible for the narcissist to take ownership of their feelings or the role they play.” Increasingly, though, therapists are noticing more partners, friends, children and colleagues of narcissists seeking help to separate from these destructive relationships.

It rang a bell regarding the 'pick me' girls, throwing other women under the bus for larping men. Not all of them, but it might explain some. Particularly bearing in mind that psycho/sociopaths are said to be over represented in management and the like. The lower rank MPs who loudly endorse TWAW (rarely TMAM), i doubt we'd even know who they were if they weren't on that particular bandwagon.

Eight peculiar traits of a narcissist – and how to spot them

Is it a disorder or just plain selfishness? From walking ahead of others to shouting in a group, here are the symptoms to watch out for...

That looks very interesting, cake.

I dreamed last night that I was out for dinner with friends and JK Rowling joined us. Don't remember much but do recall that she was extremely cheerful and her hair was very shiny.

V good! I nearly missed it because of the interesting article, but smile-inducing funniness should always be saluted👏

I dreamed I was making Donald Trump's morning cuppa and I couldn't remember if he had tea or coffee (I made him tea) and Chase from House was in the break room. We didn't speak.

No idea where all that came from, can't even blame cheese!

Edited to add

I'd much rather have had your dream.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 30/08/2024 11:19

It was a good dream, lots of laughter and talking.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 30/08/2024 13:27

Horrific for the victims to be dragged through the process again and again like that. But good on that newspaper pushing for action - that can't have been an easy decision.

Elle Canada celebrates 8 women who've broken the glass ceiling.

Two of them apparently broke it by being men.

Elle's tweet doesn't seem to be getting a lot of love.
