Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Another FFS.

Family friend suggested we sign up to the Protect study (investigating genetics and cognition in ageing) and I thought this was a great idea, what with both late MiL and my dad having dementia.

Having registered online and done the consent form, I got to the demographic data collection.

The very first question: What sex were you assigned at birth? (M/F/Other)

The second: What gender do you identify with? (A list of various but no option for NONE or freetext)

I haven't got to the third question but I am expecting: Which deity do you submit to for your eternal judgement? (List including Cthulu, Ishtar, Horus but no option for ATHEIST).

I'm not sure I'm in a fighty enough mood to contact them to delete my registration, I might just leave it hanging there unfinished for all eternity. Perhaps if chased I can reply with "I can't even answer your first two questions!"

I didn't time the interactions, but I'm pretty sure that as well as the higher 'no' rate, the women also had a longer decision pause than the men - regardless of answer.

duc748 · 28/02/2025 10:37

Don't blame you being furious , Kuc. It really needs rooting out.

And they can offer ten different options for the second question, but the one they never offer is "I don't believe in gender".

Funny, that. Cos it's an option many people might prefer. For clarity, like.

PuffinCliffs · 28/02/2025 19:45

I just ordered a new passport - that asks your gender not sex too (though I think there were only two options) even though my previous passport says sex.

duc748 · 28/02/2025 21:20

I wonder when it changed? I just looked at mine, issued in 2019, it says sex.

My old one says sex. Will be interesting to see what the passport (as opposed to application form) says. Will let you know when it arrives!

JanesLittleGirl · 28/02/2025 22:46

I renewed my passport last November. The classification is sex/sexe. Mine is F.

Should get a job as a leader writer for The Onion! 😄

DeanElderberry · 03/03/2025 13:38

He's very good and we should keep the link bookmarked, because some earnest enquirers sound sceptical when they are told the trans project is homophobic.

MarieDeGournay · 03/03/2025 17:00

The gay Lord Mayor of Belfast will probably be excluded from Belfast Pride because the party he belongs to voted in favour of banning puberty blockers for non-medical reasons for under-18s in NI.

I'll just repeat that, as it sounds so wrong:
The gay Lord Mayor of Belfast is probably excluded from Belfast Pride because the party he belongs to voted in favour of the banning of puberty blockers for non-medical reasons for under-18s in NI.

In other words, if you disagree with the opinion of medically unqualified TRAs about the prescribing of drugs to children, you're not welcome at Pride.
LGB✂T can't come soon enough!
