Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Transmania authors cancel Brussels conference after death threats. Not just the standard TwiX noise, there's a full 'manifesto'. https://x.com/doramoutot/status/1846578847010988243? They're taking legal action https://x.com/Margueritestern/status/1846511649080934423?

Did anyone get to the end of that? 😀

MarieDeGournay · 16/10/2024 23:58

No I gave up too, I decided it probably never ended, they just keep going on and on and on, and are still spewing their hate in real time!

Basically, the manifesto says that Stern and Moutot and GC 'transphobes' have to be eliminated, destroyed because 'they want to destroy us'.
They boast about being violent. They boast about their previous attacks. They boast about being extremists and threatening and damaging and dangerous.
They sneer at any TRA who does not join them in violence.

It reads like the furious outpourings of somebody undergoing some kind of crisis - it reminds me somewhat of Valerie Solanas' SCUM Manifesto. It is so violent, so angry, so unrelentingly full of hatred that it simultaneously loses its shock effect - yeah yeah we get the message, you hate transphobes and you're scary - and yet terrifies, because they have shown themselves capable of carrying out violent acts in the past.

What an awful atmosphere for Stern and Moutot and GC feminists in general.

AlisonDonut · 17/10/2024 07:15

I am so worried for Dora and Marguerite at the moment. The activists are completely enraged at them.

Translated quote from that diatribe:

It is not because we grew up as boys that we seek out and use violence. We are violent because we are women, and this experience fully justifies any violence we may exert. It is precisely because we chose to become women during our lives that we will never be able to understand the appeal of so-called radical cis feminism for non-violence in all its forms. Everything about the experience of patriarchy pushes us to rebel, let us assume it, let us embrace it. We should never have to feel like the weak little things that men want to make us: it is the rapists who should be afraid to go home every night at the risk of being stood up, it is the mascus who should be afraid to go home every night at the risk of being hit by telescopic sightings, it is the cops who should be afraid to go home every night at the risk of being lit on fire.

Huh? You can't even comprehend words not violence.

Kinda sounds like male violence to me buddy. Actually sounds like terrorism.

SqueakyDinosaur · 17/10/2024 07:24

If it's men who ought to be afraid, why is their violence invariably aimed primarily at women, I wonder? Sick little fucks.

Kucinghitam · 17/10/2024 08:53

The fascinating thing is that this whole movement is like a textbook live demo of so many human psychological failings. That includes the Righteous "allies" who will be in full-on "I see no ships" mode.

That's some seriously unhinged shit!

AlisonDonut · 17/10/2024 09:42

It brings to mind one of my long gone twitter accounts whose pinned tweet was [well, not word for word but...]

Women: We don't want men in our single sex spaces
Men: Fuck you b1tch, c**nt, wh0re. We will rape you, kill you and hang your corpses as our flags.
Women: Yeah, that's why.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 17/10/2024 10:09

Meanwhile in Nevada.

University says: TWAW, we see no ships, hurrah for the upcoming game against San Jose State.

Players say: Fuck that, no.

University says: Lalala, can't hear you, game's going ahead, who gave women a vote anyway? (Although, er, we won't actually sanction any player who sits this one out .) https://nypost.com/2024/10/14/sports/nevada-ignores-volleyball-players-vote-to-forfeit-vs-san-jose-st-transgender-player/ [How they plan to have a game with no players is a mystery left unaddressed. ]

State govenor backs players.

That manifesto is a seriously disturbing read. The Police and security services need to investigate the author/s and their associates as a matter of high urgency. People disseminating manifestos of violence very often turn that into real life violence.

The one which springs to mind is Behring Breivik, not to mention various other fat right maniacs and Islamic extremists. I made this point on their Twix feed.

SinnerBoy · 17/10/2024 11:19

FAR right, not fat...

SqueakyDinosaur · 17/10/2024 11:47

Well, both maybe, at least in the case of Britain First types.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 17/10/2024 13:33

I quite like the sound of 'fat right'.

MarieDeGournay · 17/10/2024 18:24

Well, there have been some pretty shocking cases in surroundings like these, so he may have been acting in ways that were inappropriate. There was 'a string of complaints' apart from the pronouns.
The ruling included:
The conductor’s claims were upheld but he was told his compensation would be reduced by 15 per cent because he had “contributed to the dismissal by blameworthy conduct”.
Reading between the lines, he may not have been, or no longer was, the perfect person for the job, but I'm glad for his sake that he was vindicated to the extent that he was.

What do other posters think about this

https://www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk/news/councillor-calls-for-bound-woman-statue-at-cambridge-stati-9388057/

My take is the artist, who I'd never heard of, has devised a casting of a much better sculpture wrapped and tied for storage or transport. I think it's dull and I can't believe, after a long selection process, this is what the commissioners wasted their(?) money on went with. However, I do sympathise with the Councillor who sees it as misogynistic.

Councillor calls for ‘bound woman’ sculpture at Cambridge station to be removed

She said ‘It's just another way that violence against women is being mainstreamed.’

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2024 00:41

I can't read the piece, but I've seen it a few times - crap and dull.
The first time I saw it I thought it was indeed something wrapped for transport just arrived or about to be removed. But thereafter wtf?

weaseleyes · 19/10/2024 12:26

I've seen this artwork and I don't know whether it's furthering the idea of women being bound or representing a commentary on oppression. I could have thought about it more, but it's just such a dull piece to look at that my mind kept sliding away.

Oh yes the book! I was more fixated on the Tunnock's caramel wafers for a moment!

Hilary Mantel (RIP) wrote a brilliant essay about the same subject - it's in MantelPieces.
