There are so many questions about the follow-up to her report.
It would be great to have a chance to clarify proposed treatment/therapy for children and also to thank her!

Sorry I should have said Dame Hilary Cass!

Hi there @kiterunning . We can definitely have a think about this if it's something lots of people are interested in. We'll leave this thread here for people to post their thoughts and will keep reading the comments.

spannasaurus · 16/10/2024 09:31

I would be very interested in this

PotOfTulips · 16/10/2024 09:44

Seconded by me, please do!

RococoUnicorn · 16/10/2024 09:46

That would be fantastic!

RethinkingLife · 16/10/2024 11:06

Please invite Dame Hilary Cass.

She would be such a helpful speaker about these complex considerations in re: the mental health of children and young adults and the upcoming study for gender dysphoria in this population.

ArabellaScott · 16/10/2024 11:14

This would be a brilliant thing to do. I know lots of parents have questions about Dame Cass's Report, and plans going forward. Thanks, OP.

RunningAllDay · 16/10/2024 11:17

It would be fantastic to hear her first hand.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2024 11:34

Please do this, it's so important for parents to be able to ask questions to her directly.

ReadWithScepticism · 16/10/2024 12:02

I'd find it really interesting. But I wonder how the contribution could be structured to make this a good place for her to communicate the nuance and detail of her report?
Perhaps a list of questions posted in advance for her to address in a blog-like manner would be better than an interactive discussion, given how debilitating, wounding and polarised online discussions in this area can become

OuterSpaceCadet · 16/10/2024 12:17

I would be very interested in this.

I'm concerned about the proposed study on puberty blockers and how the children can give informed consent to such treatment. I'm also wondering how the information from Tavistock whistleblowers - that gay and autistic children were heavily over represented in their child patients - factors in to patient screening for the upcoming study.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 16/10/2024 12:21

I would like to see this. Cass Report is really important, I was able to reference it recently when seeking support for my autistic daughter.

Prof. Emily Simonoff is the Chief Investigator for the upcoming study. Perhaps she would also be a helpful invitee, either for this or another session that is about the study and the protocol (afaict, the protocol isn't published yet).

The study will measure a range of potential treatment benefits and harms (for example whether puberty suppressing hormones impact in a meaningful way on levels of anxiety or depression, on body image, or brain development) using a range of validated tools, questionnaires and user feedback. Key measures included in the study, and the way data are collected, will aim to bridge gaps in existing research and will also be shaped by engagement with a range of stakeholders, including children and young people referred into NHS gender services and their families or carers.
Professor Emily Simonoff has been confirmed as Chief Investigator for the study. Emily is Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, where she is also currently Head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Director of the King’s Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People. She has extensive research experience and is also academic lead for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Clinical Academic Group at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The research will be co-sponsored by King’s College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/10/2024 12:55

Yes, please invite Dame Cass!

Igmum · 16/10/2024 12:57

Yes please that would be absolutely brilliant (trying to be calm and professional rather than total fangirl here)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2024 12:58

Mumsnet could put a list of questions to her, as they've done before.

Rewat · 16/10/2024 13:02

I would love her to be invited.

ButtSurgery · 16/10/2024 13:07

This would be a wonderful Q&A. I'd like to see Dame Cass - and the wider MN community - protected from a TRA pile on though.

Cailin66 · 16/10/2024 13:07

Totally support this. I've a specific question about the Tavistock. How many of the children identified not as the opposite sex, but as an animal etc. A long time ago I read about this but it's not mentioned much now. It was my understanding the Tavistock tried to hide the fact the children so identifying were ignored or it was played down. I'm interested because in my nephews school a female child is identifying as a cat.

DameMaud · 16/10/2024 13:08

This would be so beneficial for gaining clarity over speculation and confusion.
So yes please to this MNHQ!
Thanks for your proactivity OP.

WineIsMyCarb · 16/10/2024 13:09

Yes please. Very relevant to a lot of the threads here.

GinnyPiggie · 16/10/2024 13:11

It would be great - but I suspect it would be wiser/she will be advised not to use MN as a forum for interview, in order to remain as a neutral voice in the space.

RinklyRomaine · 16/10/2024 13:26

I would also very much like to see Dame Cass on MN. I'm very concerned about the upcoming study which she said on WH wouldn't put limits on how many children will be part of the experimentation and some clarity would be great.

Bannedontherun · 16/10/2024 13:45

Yes to this

Norwaysnow · 16/10/2024 13:46

Yes please, it would be very interesting
