Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

In contrast to World and US fencing, British fencing knows what's what (and who's who) www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5192719-some-good-news-for-womens-fencing?reply=139212013

It seems an inquest into the murder of Brianna Ghey has started.

Myalternate · 23/10/2024 12:58

I might have misunderstood but aren’t they biologically female?

SinnerBoy · 23/10/2024 13:03

Oh dear, comprehension fail on my part! Sorry!

DeanElderberry · 25/10/2024 18:29

He is such a shit.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/10/2024 11:10

I hadn't heard of him before and kind of wish I hadn't. What an absolute shit head, glad he's being locked up.

Meghan Murphy writing about the insanity in Canada and the proposed Online Harms Act, I don't know how imminent that is

The Telegraph had an article by Jordan Peterson yesterday on the same subject. Seems to be part of a series.

The situation in Afghanistan is both heartbreaking and terrifying.

duc748 · 27/10/2024 00:31

How the fuck is this happening in the 21st century?

duc748 · 27/10/2024 00:34

More a rhetorical question really. 🙁

Britinme · 27/10/2024 10:24

I was trying to track down how many biologically male transgender prisoners are in women's prisons in the USA, and Google is basically coming up with links about how victimised trans women prisoners are and no actual statistics. Can anyone point me at some?

Kucinghitam · 27/10/2024 10:30

The overarching theme here is that everybody can tell exactly what a woman is, when they want to oppress her.

I don't think I need bother vaulting paywalls to read the full lurid details of that....

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/10/2024 11:13

Any chance of an archive link, please?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/10/2024 11:16

DeanElderberry · 27/10/2024 11:25

That seems to suggest that men in general take less care over the hygiene of their own spaces than women do, but that some users of mixed facilities actively seek to make them dirtier. I wonder who that might be?

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/10/2024 11:33

I don't think we need to look too far, Elderberry.
