Has anyone noticed a dialling down in PRIDE logos on business websites today?

Unfortunately not. Sadly, only an increase.

Hyperions · 01/06/2024 13:02

I've had a look at a couple of websites, Waitrose of course have changed their logo to have a subtle rainbow, Waterstones have a button to click if you want more pride stuff, but generally it seems a bit more low-key than last year. When every thing was plastered with flags. Time for the LGB to finally get rid of the T, as it seems to be spoiling things for same sex attracted people.

That was why the LGB Alliance started & why Stonewall are hopefully finally sinking.
We’re infinitely better off without the T but it’s taking a long time to get there.

ByPeachSeal · 01/06/2024 13:06

Yes, it is the T that is the issue.

Luminousalumnus · 01/06/2024 13:15

Marks and Spencer absolutely overrun with Pride stuff today. I've never seen it so adorned with logo's for learning disabilities or child carers or any of the other truly marginalised groups. It felt a bit out of step with reality tbh.

lonelywater · 01/06/2024 13:17

isn't it fucking pride month, every month, forever?

Abitorangelooking · 01/06/2024 13:21

I feel like peak pride was two years ago. With less last year and not much this year either.

I believe so

My local business centre is running a DEI event in conjunction with the local Stonewall rep. I emailed asking whether the content was legally compliant with the equality act in light of recent Tribunals & cass review. I got a wishy washy response back about how it was important to be allies in pride month. Nowt about the content which is worrying because they mentioned overhauling HR policies to be LGBTQ friendly. 🙄

Its has only just started so hard to tell if its been toned down or not, though I would not be surprised.

As an aside, on a walk this morning in a fashionable middle class part of North London I was shocked to see this very large graffiti spray painted on the path;

'LGBT PEDO'

Well it's straight month , every month, forever?

Well it's straight month , every month, forever?

Is it?
Have I missed all the marches?
All the merch?

RandySavage · 01/06/2024 14:28

“it's straight month , every month, forever?”

you’re right. I’m off to put up my ‘straight’ flags and ‘cis’ banners. I’ll be wearing my special vanilla coloured laces to show other straights that they are safe talking to me.

Tbh I wish it would all die down, straight, or gay, or trans, we don’t need flags or rainbows or anything else.

I was watching Breakfast on BBC1 this morning and it cut to an extended trailer for the weekend cooking show that was all about bloody Pride month.

I was talking last week to a friend who had been on the London Pride march in the 80s that the miners had supported (the one from the film). She said it was full of ordinary people in ordinary clothes, marching for equal rights.

Now it's commercialised, is all about TQ+ (the wrong sort of gays and lesbians aren't wanted) and fetishists and goes on for ever - Pride month, Trans Pride month, Trans Day of Rememberance, IDAHOBIT (might have got the letters muddled for the last one) and other more obscure ones.

Women get International Women's Day.

ONE Day is all we're worth.

Rubidium · 01/06/2024 14:44

Whenever I see a rainbow lanyard or it’s Pride month, I wonder when we’re going to get lanyards/ dedicated months/ marches for racial harmony, or disability acceptance.

justasking111 · 01/06/2024 14:46

It's national milk day today for farmers, they get a day, rainbow flag wavers get a month. I give up when governments and businesses have skewed priorities.

I'd add older people. Ageism is rife in our society.

I’m old enough to remember the eighties, and when I saw the ‘Pride’ film (about lesbians and gays supporting the miners' strike), at the end all the young people in the cinema were cheering while I was feeling sad that the coal mines closed, many of the mining communities still haven’t recovered to this day, and one of the main characters in the film died of AIDS a few years later.

justasking111 · 01/06/2024 14:50

We're in Wales labour sigh

Pride month

When I was watching that film I thought how they would have lost one of their plot devices if everyone had mobile phones back in the day.

Also hadn't heard the song bread & roses before, now it's one of my favourites.

Well these do exist (and "whataboutary isn't helpful ). I genuinely cannot see for the life of me how anyone can be 'anti ' any of these things. Surely awareness, tolerance and understanding is what a civilised society should be about?
