Has anyone noticed a dialling down in PRIDE logos on business websites today?

It’s bigger than ever. Even on Vinted if you click to like an item you get a rainbow heart that then turns into a red heart. They are all jumping on the bandwagon.

Sparklybutold · 01/06/2024 18:56

@KarenOH genuine question - what do you see as homophobic?

Hedgeoffressian · 01/06/2024 18:58

YourPinkDog · 01/06/2024 17:54

Being gay or lesbian is not so accepted now.

Sad but true

IndecentPropolis · 01/06/2024 19:00

There has been no homophobia in the thread.

I challenge anyone to quote any homophobic posts.

come on Sparkly, you know the drill by now. Anything other than whole hearted chanting of "TWAW" is transphobic. As is everything else, just to clarify.

I've had a look at a couple of websites, Waitrose of course have changed their logo to have a subtle rainbow, Waterstones have a button to click if you want more pride stuff, but generally it seems a bit more low-key than last year. When every thing was plastered with flags. Time for the LGB to finally get rid of the T, as it seems to be spoiling things for same sex attracted people.

I have a couple of waitroses near me - the one in the area that is very Middle Eastern has a rainbow striped floor leading to customer services and the sales desks have pride remix flag decals, but the other one in the more mixed area has nothing.

m&s are promoting double sparks points to some rainbow charity. Not sure what charity it is but it isn’t mermaids or stonewall… don’t remember them doing this for any other days/weeks/months.

justasking111 · 01/06/2024 19:08

Haven't seen anything on Instagram today I just realised.

Why do businesses have to have pride colours etc? It’s not a commercial issue it’s a private issue.

Law firms are terrible for this because - they say - prospective clients ask them to fill out questionnaires asking them about their D&I policies. My friend works for a large one and one year it was all Marsha and rainbows.

I was asked to rebrand our website for pride (a few years back when I was in charge of it) and told them to give me their written proposal with full cost benefit analysis of doing so. They didn’t bother so it obviously wasn’t that important…

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 01/06/2024 19:22

Gender ideology is homophobic. The T should never have been attached to the LGB.

I was watching Breakfast on BBC1 this morning and it cut to an extended trailer for the weekend cooking show that was all about bloody Pride month.

I was talking last week to a friend who had been on the London Pride march in the 80s that the miners had supported (the one from the film). She said it was full of ordinary people in ordinary clothes, marching for equal rights.

Now it's commercialised, is all about TQ+ (the wrong sort of gays and lesbians aren't wanted) and fetishists and goes on for ever - Pride month, Trans Pride month, Trans Day of Rememberance, IDAHOBIT (might have got the letters muddled for the last one) and other more obscure ones.

Women get International Women's Day.

ONE Day is all we're worth.

The Saturday Kitchen show featured a guest explaining how she had had 'top surgery' to much whooping and cheering. I just don't get it.

EndoEnd · 01/06/2024 18:41

If you don't think homophobia and transphobia are a real global issue then you are sadly mistaken, it is far from a private issue.

Yes, they are a global issue. However the same companies that will adorn European Social Media in rainbow flags, will not do so for their Middle East arm. This is how you know it is just a money making thing.

therealcookiemonster · 01/06/2024 19:44

tbh I am against all "days" and "months" including women's day
it just means that people can feel they do something vaguely supportive on that day eg. change their fb status and then go back to not giving two monkeys. allows us a get out of jail free card from actually engaging and campaigning

corporates use these occasions to virtue signal and exploit them to make money

the whole thing has become pointless

issues that are worth fighting about need to be constantly struggled against until they are solved. not sighed about one day a year. imagine if the suffragettes just designated an annual votes for women day and left it at that....

I turned the car radio on today and twice in a ten minutes trip,I got adverts for a Pride themed radio station. Got to Aldi and the electronic advertising boards were celebrating Pride month. It's going to be a looong month.
Dd1's best friends parents are lesbian. Dd2s colleague is gay. They have never ever mentioned Pride in person or on SM.

sparkleowl · 01/06/2024 21:57

BreadInCaptivity · 01/06/2024 18:02

Anyone can participate in Pride.

Maybe that's part of the problem?

It's veered so far from its original intent that most of the gay and lesbian people I know give it (and the events) a wide berth as they feel it's not representative of their communities.

Instead it's been co-opted into an opportunity for public displays of fetishism, often from straight people who identify as queer such as furies/adult babies/gimpers (and the 3 letter acronym that cannot be be named).

I think the question is Pride in what exactly?

That’s it exactly.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

NormaSnorks · 01/06/2024 21:59

I don't think that you can equate a dislike for Pride Month with homophobia. It's not about the people, it's about the impact of the relentless attention-seeking behaviour of it all.

We get it. You're proud. That's fine, but most gay people who just get on with their lives are totally accepted. It's the narcissism of the TQ+ groups demanding a whole month to draw everyone's attention to their sexuality which has just become too much. It's having the reverse effect to what was originally intended!

My brother was part of the early Pride movement in Manchester in the 1980s. He now despairs of what it has become and won't have anything to do with it.

RandySavage · 01/06/2024 21:59

Another person saying they can see loads of homophobia fails to show where when challenged.
Do they think we cannot read the thread and we're just going to believe them?

RandySavage · 01/06/2024 22:03

"I don't think that you can equate a dislike for Pride Month with homophobia. It's not about the people, it's about the impact of the relentless attention-seeking behaviour of it all"

Absolutely. I was happy and proud to march beside gay people when they were asking for an equal age of consent, marriage rights, to be able to live in peace, and for equality with heterosexuals. I'm not going to march beside those who are demanding the right to wear leather thongs in public and are taking the opportunity to sell giant dildos.

im still waiting for our straight day of remembrance to commemorate all those straights (particularly women) murdered every year. Shouldn't last more than a fortnight by rights.

TempestTost · 01/06/2024 23:18

I am still seeing a lot of it. I work in a very woke industry though, and in Canada.

That being said, I have heard locally about companies looking to quietly step back from observing awareness days in general. Banking sector for example. What I've been told is that it's become really a huge deal to try and do something for every one, and if any are missed it creates complaints, plus some are of course more divisive and that leads to other issues.

And there seems to be a feeling that many people are resenting them in general, not just Pride but all the things they are supposed to be observing to be Good people. At the banks behest.

So really a potential liability for the company plus time and money. There seems to be a sense that they should focus mainly on their products and services.

this is what happens when corporations exploit these occasions to make profits. then they become totally meaningless

I'm straight and think you're being bloody ridiculous.
To conflate women being killed with Pride Month that celebrates LGBT.
Whataboutery at its finest.
On a par with men crying "what about National Mens Day?!" on National Women's Day.

Nothing to do with "wearing straight lanyards" and "straight laces" 🙄
They'll be meaning like if you're straight like me I can go through town holding my husband's hand or giving him a kiss and not worrying about verbal abuse or worse.
