@Feliciacat "What if Steph just really empathises with women with endo despite not having it? Then Steph would be a fine choice, right?"
It's a good question. I've had many excellent male drs who've made me feel like they really empathize with women. None so much that they felt the need to "become" women.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2023 21:30

It seems Steph was “invited” to join them as CEO which suggests that it wasn’t an openly advertised role

PatatiPatatras · 12/11/2023 21:31

That he'll never get endo? Meh, there are worse things in life.

That he'll bite his tongue before using the word woman" in conjunction with endo? Yeah, fuck right off with that shite.

Glamourreader · 12/11/2023 21:33

1 in 10 people is not the same as 1 in 10 women of reproductive age

JellySaurus · 12/11/2023 21:34

I know they don’t have experience. My question was what if they are actually good at advocating? I advocate for parents without having children so why can’t someone without a uterus advocate for people with endo?

People with endo.

Naturally you would think that this misogynist could be good at advocating for women - you clearly support the erasure of women.

It's not 1 in 10 people get endo, it's 1 in 10 women. All women are people, but not all people are women.

I think that’s what I was getting at! I have had really great male doctors so I wouldn’t necessarily require a women’s advocate to be a cis woman. I do not know all the history of Steph though; that’s true. As someone who does not frequent this part of the forum, I suppose I was just surprised that people thought only women could advocate for women when I know some excellent men who could do great in Steph’s role. It does sound like there’s more to people’s annoyance than that but that wasn’t the angle I was asking from.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/11/2023 21:37

Steph's LinkedIn profile is very short on detail. 3 years of advocacy, activism and journalism. Steph is 70 now. What was Steph doing between leaving school and launching into this new phase?

I have no idea how big this charity is, but if Steph was invited to become CEO with no open competition for the role, I'm wondering if it's unpaid.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2023 21:37

They’re a tiny organisation. I suspect this is an unpaid role which Steph has volunteered to do. It’ll give Steph an “in” to all kinds of meetings & conferences. Just imagine the validation!

Thanks for explaining.

Rightsraptor · 12/11/2023 21:38

I looked at Endo South Coast's website but couldn't see anything about Steph joining them. Maybe they don't manage to update it very often. So I couldn't see what his actual role is intended to achieve. And yes, you could appoint a man in a senior role in a charity aimed at women, or children, and he could be very good in it, absolutely the right appointee. But I can't imagine that would be true in this case - why would anyone interested in women's issues try to disrupt Filia?

I'm sure those young women at Endo South Coast are really, really nice and want to be kind. But in doing so they're being very unkind to women. Like so many others.

SigourneyHoward · 12/11/2023 21:39

I have gone back through their socials and can't find any advert for a CEO role - they did advertise for new trustees though so they do advertise for some roles, perhaps not all.....

fuzzystar · 12/11/2023 21:39

Glamourreader · 12/11/2023 21:33

1 in 10 people is not the same as 1 in 10 women of reproductive age

That's what has confused me about their stat.

Yes fuzzystar, already the health message is incorrect.

WarriorN · 12/11/2023 21:43

Is that Steph of steph's place?

Or a different Steph?

agent765 · 12/11/2023 21:43

What the absolute fuck is wrong with these people?

I'm often left speechless reading about the jaw-dropping stupidity of the organisations and businesses posted about here but this is up there with the best.

A man, and a misogynist at that, placed in a position that is best suited to a woman. Yep, speechless.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/11/2023 21:44

WarriorN · 12/11/2023 21:43

Is that Steph of steph's place?

Or a different Steph?

Yes. Now called Translucent, I think.

Crankywiddershins · 12/11/2023 21:46

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2023 21:17

Interesting how it starts talking about Steph "herself" then switches to "this is why they were appointed" What's that about?

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 12/11/2023 21:49

As someone with endometriosis, this individual does not represent or support me and I want them to stay the fuck away from matters concerning my uterus.

A uterus is literally a woman's space by definition.

It's another lip-service tick-box bullshit cynical attempt at tokenism.

If they had wanted to make a genuine statement about supporting transgenderism rather than give a man access to the most impenetrable of women's spaces, they should have "invited" a transman (a woman) instead. And maybe filtered for someone who was mathematically literate, too.

LizzieSiddal · 12/11/2023 21:52

100% of trans woman have absolutely no experience of this condition and never will. Fuck off and start your own charities relevant to you.

WarriorN · 12/11/2023 21:52

Yes I see it is - So this Steph who wrote this to the transwidows:

web.archive.org/web/20231112211138/translucent.org.uk/letter-to-trans-widows/

I mean, seriously.

Meet the new CEO of Endometriosis South Coast
WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 12/11/2023 21:52

Oh or are they priming the charity for when uterus transplants become viable and women (real women) are no longer needed for the perpetuation of the species and therefore more expendable than ever?
