I just saw this RT'd by Maya - I don't believe that the CEO of a charity has to have direct experience of their charity's primary cause - You could run Alzheimer's Society without having alzheimers yourself... BUT I cannot believe there was not a woman who applied for this role who did not have all the other skills and had (in)direct experience of endometriosis - so why pick Steph??

Aethelberht · 12/11/2023 20:56

What do CEOs do anyway?

Poor Steph had to wait til their 40's before they found out about endo!

Just looked at their website and LinkedIn page. I couldn't see a single mention of 'woman/women' on their LinkedIn posts. This photo is from their website. Says it all.

I never post on these discussions because I’d be afraid to be on the wrong side of the debate. However, I wanted to ask something. What if Steph just really empathises with women with endo despite not having it? Then Steph would be a fine choice, right?

I don’t have children but I’m very passionate about parental rights in the workplace. I can be good on that front without having children so why can’t Steph do this? Genuine question, I’d just be interested to know people’s thoughts.

TeenDivided · 12/11/2023 21:16

So if 1 in 10 people have it that means 1 in 5 women???

Rightsraptor · 12/11/2023 21:16

Why would any medical professional specifically mention endo to Steph? What exactly does Steph think is ridiculous about it? I think there have been under 15 or so documented cases globally of males having it. And literally millions of women.

Rightsraptor · 12/11/2023 21:21

I just googled the incidence in males and I found 'at least 20' males are recorded as having had it.

So it's not one in 10 people, as we already guessed, who have it. It's one in ten women and one in a huge, massive, humungus number of men.

Can't believe an effing word they say. I won't be giving them a single penny of mine if they can't tell the truth.

Can you point to what experience this man has that makes him the ideal candidate for the role please?

Are you aware of his campaigning against women's rights?

Rainbowshit · 12/11/2023 21:22

@SigourneyHoward sorry that was meant to quote a different poster!

I know they don’t have experience. My question was what if they are actually good at advocating? I advocate for parents without having children so why can’t someone without a uterus advocate for people with endo?

EmpressaurusOfCats · 12/11/2023 21:25

That’s the same Steph who organised the protests against FiLiA in Portsmouth a few years ago.

Not a sign of someone who cares about or empathises with women.

fuzzystar · 12/11/2023 21:25

Where is the source for the 1 in 10 people? This seems an odd fact. How many people with a uterus are affected?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/11/2023 21:27

I can’t see anything in Stephanie job history that qualifies them for this role. I’d be interested to know where it was advertised & what experience was required.

Villagetoraiseachild · 12/11/2023 21:27

Does Steph have any relevant endo medical background?
Any relevance to the role whatsoever?

  • The only reliable diagnostic test is laparoscopy Hickey et al, 2014]. On average it takes 7.5 years from onset of symptoms to get a diagnosis of endometriosis.
  • Endometriosis UK estimates that in the UK:One in 10 women of reproductive age (between puberty and menopause) have endometriosis.
  • Endometriosis affects 1.5 million women, a similar number of women affected by diabetes.
  • The prevalence of endometriosis in women with infertility is about 30–50%.
  • Endometriosis is the second most common gynaecological condition (after fibroids).

And if this person places trans people’s demands ahead of women’s need for clear language that is about women and not ‘uterus havers’ or whatever without centring women, is that ok? Do you really think a diversity champion such as this is about to make sure that women are centred in language needs or will all mention of women and girls be changed to be gender neutral language? Why? What other male diversity champions who take over women’s roles as a trans person has done that previously? Can you name one?

MarilynBoo · 12/11/2023 21:29

They are fully TWAW. Check out this blog in which they directly criticize gender critical feminists. Here's a quote:

"gender critical feminists have started a brutal campaign to strip back trans rights."

TitusMoan · 12/11/2023 21:30

Omg wtaf

Who appointed this person? What the hell were they thinking??

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/11/2023 21:30

It's a great relief to see NICE quoting a source that says clearly 'women of reproductive age' and for once women indubitably means female.
