@Feliciacat He isn’t going to advocate for women. He’s known for his anti women campaigns, he is blocking women on twitter, who dare to question his new appointment or controversial views. He’s known to state that:”'men'.
'women', 'child' are social constructs”. Research him, you’ll be astonished.

I never post on these discussions because I’d be afraid to be on the wrong side of the debate. However, I wanted to ask something. What if Steph just really empathises with women with endo despite not having it? Then Steph would be a fine choice, right?

I don’t have children but I’m very passionate about parental rights in the workplace. I can be good on that front without having children so why can’t Steph do this? Genuine question, I’d just be interested to know people’s thoughts.

Can I ask you a question? Why would a man be better in this post than a woman who has lived experience of endometriosis?

Feliciacat · 12/11/2023 22:11

@Helleofabore it was only because I thought men could potentially do this role so why not trans women. But as you say, there’s more to this specific case.

I agree that men could potentially do the role. If they were skilled CEOs and there was women out there doing the public facing roles and advising and there was not suitable female candidate. There could be ways to make it work. I am not sure though, because it is a topic that has had so much back history of being denied or of women and girls being told they were exaggerating etc. There is so much recent negative treatment of women and girls with endo that maybe it is not a good fit for a male who might have great skills and very much understands the condition. There is that history too. I am undecided whether a person of the opposite sex of a medical condition would be a good fit for a support organisation, I haven’t worked that out yet really.

As we say, though, this person has a deplorable history. This candidate is totally the wrong person.

Ohmyimsooooorollingmyeyes · 12/11/2023 22:48

awful, just awful

but it’s just given them a huge amount of free publicity hasn’t it.

maybe that was part of the plan by the charity.

Yeah… that head tilt and breezy threatening words.

SidewaysOtter · 12/11/2023 22:55

Because it’s always gone so well when people with no relevant experience are promoted to CEO positions, doesn’t it?

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 12/11/2023 22:59

There is a young man who has bravely come forward to talk about his experiences of grooming and child abuse at a Scottish charity. Richards told him he hadn't been groomed.

BlessedKali · 12/11/2023 23:01

Thing is, this isn't just a man as a CEO of an endo charity. It's worse that that.

Here's an analogy;

There is an organisation for people of colour. The CEO is white - not a great choice as this person has no lived experience, however maybe they are just good for the role...

BUT then imagine if that white CEO denied the existence of people of colour as any meaningful category, and if he actively campaigned for POC to lose certain rights. Now they are worse than 'not a great choice', and are actually a TERRIBLE CHOICE.

So I NCed for this…

What the hell are the English thinking that they are pushing forward with this Americanised self identification nonsense to the extent that a bloody man is CEO of an endometriosis charity and they are saying 1/10 people have endometriosis.

NO 1/10 women have it!!!!!! WOMEN.

How in the hell has one man’s agenda to now live life as a female overtaken the need for advocacy for 3.35 million women in the U.K.

My husband, who has nursed me through 8 ops thinks this is insanity. Madness.

I have spent the last 3 days bed bound in severe pain and had massive flooding bleeding, I feel so exhausted.

And then read about this pillock with a penis who thinks they have an idea what I’m going through….

The only reason this person wants to take on this role is to further their own agenda in becoming female and to try and gain acceptance amongst women and almost dominate us by taking on a major role in a charity that is FOR WOMEN. About WOMEN’s health.

This is utterly insane news and the charity will fold. Women will not support this.

Yes. Now called Translucent, I think.

As in, see-through.

BlessedKali · 12/11/2023 23:10

Updated analogy thanks to previous postersl'd astute comment:

There is an organisation for people of colour. The CEO is white - not a great choice as this person has no lived experience, however maybe they are just good for the role...

BUT then imagine if that white CEO denied the existence of people of colour as any meaningful category, and if he actively campaigned for POC to lose certain rights. And his motivation for taking the role was because it sexually aroused him. Now, he is worse than 'not a great choice', and he is actually a fucking TERRIBLE CHOICE

catduckgoose · 12/11/2023 23:15

Another reason why this creep of a man has taken a recent interest in women's gynecological disorders may be because it coincides with his ridiculous arguments for having men like him impose themselves on women's sports:

Can I ask you a question? Why would a man be better in this post than a woman who has lived experience of endometriosis?

It is very unlikely that a man would be better than a woman with endometriosis. Where I was coming from with thinking maybe Steph was the best one for the job is that jobs often get very few applicants (despite what LinkedIn would have you believe). So maybe there were only ten applicants, five were shortlisted, two dropped out and only three were interviewed on the day. Maybe Steph performed best at interview and got the role. So it’s believable under these theorised circumstances that Steph could have legitimately got the role. So they were the ‘best’ but that doesn’t mean ‘better’.

Needmoresleep · 12/11/2023 23:22

Steph’s professional training was as a hairdresser, though appears to have moved into other retail businesses and run some sort of social group for cross dressers.

Steph’s blog suggests Steph is very empathetic , has nursed two wives through cancer and have been both mum and dad to fairly young children. Steph seems quite focussed on Stephself.

Endo is horrid. A close friend of DDs has it and in her mid 20s is already two or this operations in, and is often seriously unwell. An empathetic man with the right professional charity or health service background would be fine. Someone who would be effective. However, like Lily Madigan and period poverty and TWs trying to join workplace menopause groups, this seems like a man using a woman’s issue to promote their own perceived feminity. It then becomes all about them. It needs to be all about endo.

Bloodeehell · 12/11/2023 23:22

Also, in my experience of endometriosis charities the people involved either have the condition themselves or have been a carer for someone close to them.

This is helpful because they can interact with the women affected and truly understand not only the illness but how day to day life is impacted for them, their ability to engage in life, employment prospects, family life, social life. All of it. And you are ignored for decades, told you are being hysterical, exaggerating, that it is normal. You can barely walk at times nor eat, and in so much pain you shake. But normal. You are a woman and must get on with it.

10% of the female population are going through this crap and absolutely sweet fuck all is done about it. There is limited research and treatment. Little public awareness.

0.1% of the male population identifies as trans. They have nothing physically wrong with them. Yet the NHS is expected to pay for surgeries, therapies and the world is awash with trying to accommodate them to make their lives easier.

That is why this appointment is wholly inappropriate. Women who are ignored are now to be represented by a man presenting as a woman who clearly has more rights than they do under the patriarchal system.

Reminds me of this powerful tweet from Magdalen Berns (rest in peace), she knew exactly what these men were up to.

Since it is a charity I think as women we should withdraw any monetary support.
Any charity that is solely supporting adult human females with a disease that only adult human females can develop needs adult human female leadership.
Next he will be claiming that trans men can develop endo because they take hormones.
Many years ago, in the early days of the internet, one of the forums I joined was the endo society. It was a pretty niche forum and the support was immeasurable because endo was still a contentious condition.
I feel for the women who rely on the support forums to just exist when his friends decide to fabricate an adult humans female disease.
Utter bollocks. I will be writing a firm letter/email expressing just how misguided their choice of CEO is.

MathsIs · 12/11/2023 23:28

“Steph is a huge advocate for what people on the endo community go through. “

Don’t you advocate for something you want? So Steph wants “people on (in?) the endo community” to go through the experience of endometriosis?

This is giving me unpleasant reminders of reading about how some people born male would like to experience periods etc.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets a kick out of women's suffering.

Slothtoes · 12/11/2023 23:35

Inappropriate because it’s a job any woman (with direct experience of endometriosis or not) could do better than any man because of the need for charity service users/beneficiaries and staff and whoever the charity are trying to influence, to be able to focus solely on the aims of a charity.

Whether the aim is to raise money from the public or raise awareness with women, medical practitioners, researchers, employers whoever it is. Having a man leading in a role that’s all about a uniquely female health condition is a massive inappropriate distraction because there will be a lot of talking to validate and spare his feelings, rather than direct talking about women’s health and women’s experiences.

A sensible charity would steer well clear of ever being put in this position.
