It was the one @JoIsBraverThanIAm linked! I thought the mad professor had written it but looks like it's real!!

Nothing fake about this one - peer reviewed, notable journal, must be an important area of study. https://www.bmj.com/content/331/7531/1498

This is the sort of groundbreaking, high quality research that wokeism is destroying.

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/10/2023 20:00

I feel a PhD coming on . . . Grin

SinnerBoy · 18/10/2023 20:19

I am called to mind of the Swedish ship I worked on, which had a sign in the mess, next to the hatch, where we scraped our plates into the bin and passed them through to be washed.

Please don't put the fucking spoons in the fucking bin.

They don't have proper swearing in Sweden.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/10/2023 20:43

I only did a quick read of the teaspoon paper but I think, though it's an impression rather than a rigorous proper hard think, that the tragedy of the commons can be applied to the encroachment of men into women's spaces. They may have 'always' done it but the pasture is quickly becoming degraded.

JoIsBraverThanIAm · 18/10/2023 19:27

Answering my own question partially, as an excuse to note that I do know how to spell "roll" as in "roll call":
Maya Forstater appeal: Olivia Dobbie
Allison Bailey case: Ijeoma Omambala QC, senior counsel - barrister for SW;
Andrew Hochhauser QC, senior counsel - barrister for GC
Jo Phoenix case: Jane Mulcahy KC, Counsel for Respondents

Other relevant cases? So far no repetitions. (I know, cab rank rule - but also, people clearly do specialise a bit, cf Ben, and I think that if a barrister had done one such case and ended up peaked by it, that would be reason enough for them not to take another, right? Admittedly there have been few enough cases and there are enough barristers that this is nowhere near conclusive... but at least, there's no equivalent of Ben on the other side.)

Cab rank rule is a thing but that really just means they have to accept cases. I instruct barristers regularly and I always specifically go for those who I know are shit hot, I have my own “yes” and “no” lists in my head.

So you might think there would be some who had built a particular name for themselves in a specific field where you might see their names come up more regularly, I guess as we do with BC, but it doesn’t seem that the “other side” have a particular standout who is being repeatedly requested, unless anyone has any further info.

SqueakyDinosaur · 18/10/2023 20:54

Karon Monaghan is another KC who does a lot of work in this field on the GC side.

Holdyournoseandthinkofchocolate · 18/10/2023 20:56

Well there is Robin Moira White, of course.

I think possibly no barrister has made a name for acting against GC individuals because not many cases like that have been won?

If that would make Ben rub my ears and say "Who's a good girl? You are! You are! Yes, you are!", then I would be prepared to step into the witness box . . . 😁

Finally catching up with today's posts and had to stop for a breather after this one, cos I laughed so hard. @Emotionalsupportviperare you outing yourself as one of those "pup play" types, or just demonstrating the strength of your BCKC devotion here? 😂

Watch out, if you mention that book too many times, RMW will appear, in the same vein as Beetlejuice.

Beware...

I would love to see RMW appear and explain how the OU were perfectly reasonable in their treatment of Jo.

Fink · 18/10/2023 22:07

There's also Reindorf on the GC side, obviously. She's currently preparing another tribunal against the OU.

Is she? That explains why she’s been following this one so closely.

I only know that her name is listed as the KC on a case looking for funds in Crowd Justice. I don't know where they are with the preparation of the case, or even whether it's definitely going to go ahead.

No harm in saying it's Almut Gadow's case, surely. Here's hoping what's just happened has increased the chance that that one will settle in a way satisfactory to her...

Are you celebrating Rumpole's RMW's triumph in the case of Taylor vs Jaguar, alone and without a leader?

No harm, I just didn't remember the name off hand because I'm not familiar with it.

RayonSunrise · 18/10/2023 22:47

I've been following this hearing avidly, so thanks to everyone who's been keeping these threads updated.

Imagine my surprise to see a couple of people where I'm currently working as a temp openly plotting to anonymously report a GC woman for harassment so a:gender would contact her HR staff and kick her off Yammer!

It's like what's happening in the courts just doesn't impinge on them at all.

Tallisker · 18/10/2023 22:52

Is that Civil Service Rayon?

They don't have proper swearing in Sweden.

My extensive studies of Swedish swearing☆ suggest that 'Helvete' is used for 90% of situations, with 'Piss' filling most of the remaining gap. In extremis (such as the provocation of repeated teaspoon disregard) a switch to English is indeed the preferred solution.

☆ Nordic Noir addiction.

SidewaysOtter · 18/10/2023 22:55

I tell you what, this case makes me think that whatever I do as a manager, I will follow guidance and polices to the letter, keep copious notes etc etc. Because if the alternative is having to explain myself to Mr Cooper..

I feel my opening statement would be “…the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God and I’m very sorry, I accept liability for everything, I won’t do it again, and please may I be excused?”

Voylio · 18/10/2023 23:00

Froodwithatowel · 18/10/2023 17:38

They had a number of grievances involving death threats?! Wtaf goes on in that place....

I read this as a death threat aimed at multiple people - ie part of the reaction to the GCRN, as sounds like the other grievances are likely from the other members if the issues were very similar.
