Definitely worthy of a thread of its own. I would put in a complaint but have had cut and paste replies to previous complaints on other issues so not holding my breath

Time to stop paying the licence fee

Rainbowshit · 12/09/2023 23:15

I mourn the BBC of my youth, which ‘spoke truth to power’. How weak and dishonest it has become. Like the Guardian. Where are the campaigning liberal news media that I used to trust and admire?

I have more respect now for the conservative media I used to despise.

Brewdug · 12/09/2023 23:28

I rarely listen to 6Music anymore so would be nice to have some context to this - to have heard how heavily they were promoting this before it was dropped.

Regardless, it is disgraceful. It's absurd.
(Don't think the Mail does itself any favours dismissing Little Simz as a 'woke replacement' though.)

Mollyollydolly · 12/09/2023 23:31

This is so batshit I cant help wondering if there's more to it, but I can't think what. It's so utterly insane and a terrible look for the BBC. WTF are they thinking - I worked there all my working life, have they completely lost the plot?

TragicMuse · 12/09/2023 23:41

Well I'm turning the radio off. I love 6music, but I'm not going to endorse this appalling decision.

And I finally deleted the guardian app.

Fuck them.

I hate this fucking gender bullshit. Hate hate hate it.

RealityFan · 12/09/2023 23:45

This is the worst, most unpleasant combination.
Fear...of the young woke staff, of perceived fear of a backlash if she was featured.
Arrogance...that the great BBC can do no wrong, has it's finger on the pulse, is the voice of the nation.
The combination is like the worst kind of passive aggressive.

Sherunswithwolves · 12/09/2023 23:54

I've just listened to the Woman's Hour interview with Roisin Murphy which was broadcast on 20/07/23; she is introduced at 39 minutes. There was a live performance of Fader as part of that and it was repeatedly promoted during the show and introduced at 49 minutes. The song has been completely cut. I would very much like the BBC to explain why. I'm guessing a legal disagreement with the record label which has said it won't promote the album.

Me too! The BBC is so fucking out of order!

This is what I think too. Surely the govt is going to step in and say this is unacceptable like they did with Coutts?!

whynotwhatknot · 13/09/2023 00:06

theyve got a front after letting js carry on for years

OvaHere · 13/09/2023 00:11

The BBC is a disgrace. Their slow, painful decline is entirely of their own making.

DrBlackbird · 13/09/2023 00:14

The word that comes to mind is vindictive. A woman worries about the effects of medication on children and the response is ‘we’re going to show you who’s boss here’?!

Rights reasons? That sometimes happens on some podcast versions of BBC shows I listen to. But a live performance suggests it's a session recording that will be theirs. Why cut the song and not the whole thing though?

Failingatthemoment · 13/09/2023 00:20

So the Bbc protects JS so he got away with abusing kids and they cancel the voice of reason

Sherunswithwolves · 13/09/2023 00:24

@Brewdug I don't think it's for rights reasons. The Desert Island Discs show on Sounds always explains when songs can't be played. This has just been excised entirely from the interview.

FriendofJoanne · 13/09/2023 00:36

Yep that’s the final straw for me - I think I’ll have to cancel my license

FriendofJoanne · 13/09/2023 00:42

Ok that’s annoying - I thought tv license was just for bbc. The website states it’s needed for all live tv including itv and c4. My dh watches a lot of live sport

Biffology · 13/09/2023 00:56

@OvaHere

That slow decline is developing into a nose-dive.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/09/2023 01:19

This is outrageous. When is the government going to do something about the bbc?

AvacadoFieldsForever · 13/09/2023 01:31

We can watch a lot of men play sport, talk about sport.

We can listen to lots of highly sexualised music and music about drug abuse. Music from men who have been open about sleeping with underage fans. We have lots of data that shows music rotations and award shows are male dominated.

we can listen to lots of unqualified and unchallenged opinions from rank amateurs about blockers and surgery

But we can’t listen to the music or interviews from a woman who posted one slightly controversial post on a private social media account.

QueenBitch666 · 13/09/2023 01:41

Beyond disgraceful. I cancelled my license fee years ago. Do it online. It's so easy

MrsJamin · 13/09/2023 04:28

How is someone cancelled who has the same stance on unecessary drugs for children as the NHS?! Don't want to listen to 6 music anymore!
