Watch out for any laws criminalising misgendering within remit of hate speech

We’re all up for it on here if so

We won’t get to post as we do

@EasternStandard thus is one of the biggest pitfalls in including the protected characteristic of sex in the Hate Crimes Act.

That it will be used by men against women.

Can you imagine if we were criminalised for saying Isla Bryson was male for example

Or anyone that actually is male

We’d be fully in Orwell territory

I think Labour are planning to do it?

In Ireland they are trying to push through legislation that would make misgendering a hate crime.

Labour will be including gender in hate crime for the first time

Can’t see whether it includes misgendering

EasternStandard · 14/09/2023 09:40

…because they haven’t said as per usual

Those voting will know after they’ve voted. If it’s criminalising women for saying he for a male who cares really

Unfortunately paywalled but come on, she's a totally unique fashion icon! Artist in her own right there. I know she cites Grace Jones as an inspiration but she deserves her own retrospective at the V and A.

I'm struggling to think of another current musician who is as interesting visually as she is, other than Grace.

Grimes, Doja cat and maybe lady gaga but I still feel they're more on the conventional side.

Excellent piece, right on the money.

Does anyone know which show/presenter played that "kick a TERF" song? I'm guessing it wasn't one of the big names like Lauren Laverne.

Well she's announced a load of extra gigs just now so they're not cancelling her!

I gather it was Lamacq

WarriorN · 15/09/2023 12:59

For one of their other songs, 100% profits go to mermaids.

I've included the charity that the song played goes to.

Do you think he knew what he was doing? Is it possible he didn't really listen to the lyrics properly?

Biffology · 15/09/2023 14:38

Someone looking to police those needs to be apprehended by the actual police..

They have to play a certain amount of 'playlist' songs that are out of their control so I'm guessing it may have appeared on a C playlist for a week or so?

I cannot see Lamacq playing this drivel, I would have put money on it being Mary Anne Hobbes.

Gender. It bloody destroys everything good.

My God, they really can't leave it alone, can they?

All that was needed was the extra sentence "And Róisín's transphobic comments so triggered 6 Music staff that her whole day was justifiably cancelled".

Public purposes of the BBC:

(1) To provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them:
(2) To support learning for people of all ages:
(3) To show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services:
(4) To reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all of the United Kingdom’s nations and regions and, in doing so, support the creative economy across the United Kingdom:
(5) To reflect the United Kingdom, its culture and values to the world:

They ceased any pretence of impartiality in this debate several years ago. I don't know if Hannah Barnes' departure was push or not but I cannot imagine how difficult it will have been for her to work in this toxic environment founded on lies.
