Oh ffs.

There’s only one programme I bother listening to on 6music these days anyway.

So, Radcliffe and Maconie. Fgs move to somewhere less batshit!

Datun · 13/09/2023 05:17

Is the BBC subject to FOI? Why isn't this discrimination on the basis of a protected belief?

Summerslimtime · 13/09/2023 05:32

@TragicMuse

And I finally deleted the guardian app
Out of interest, where do you get your news now?

WarriorN · 13/09/2023 05:39

Previous thread:

Roisin Murphy www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4879267-roisin-murphy

I listened to the WH a week or two ago and noticed the absence of the song; I can't see they'd remove that but leave the interview? It's odd as obviously the bbc always do live music - can you usually listen again?

I can't seem to listen to any of her prior music on 6 music

WarriorN · 13/09/2023 05:49

Hadley discussing her experiences and mentioning Murphy :

But she was determined to take part in the Evening Standard’s inquiry because she believes free speech though far from the subject she set out to champion is essential for a democracy.

She is serious about it, immediately launching into an emotional monologue about the recent cancelling of Irish singer-songwriter Roisin Murphy over her criticism of puberty blockers for children in a private Facebook post. “I think it’s disgraceful, the way so many women have been silenced and lost work for saying, actually, incredibly mild and scientifically-proven, bioligically-true, medically-backed-up things,” she tells me, referencing the backlash Murphy has received in the fortnight since: two of her upcoming London shows being cancelled, her record label choosing to donate proceeds from her upcoming album to charity, and being forced to issue a public apology. “It’s actually totalitarian.”

I've just listened to the Woman's Hour interview with Roisin Murphy which was broadcast on 20/07/23; she is introduced at 39 minutes. There was a live performance of Fader as part of that and it was repeatedly promoted during the show and introduced at 49 minutes. The song has been completely cut. I would very much like the BBC to explain why. I'm guessing a legal disagreement with the record label which has said it won't promote the album.

Wtf is going on?!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 13/09/2023 06:25

I don't normally follow transgender issues on here, but this has shocked me.
The BBC are supposed to be neutral. Arguing against medication which stops puperty in kids is obviously needed on so many levels and noone should be afraid in doing so.

TodayInahurry · 13/09/2023 06:39

The BBC is being destroyed. I now only watch Gardners World and never listen to Radio 4. The Guardian is an evil publication so I was not surprised at their response, but the BBC?

meringue33 · 13/09/2023 06:44

Can anyone signpost to an email to complain to BBC?

EasternStandard · 13/09/2023 06:48

I love R6 and bar stuff like Wimbledon the only reason I pay the fee

This is stretching that hugely

The BBC is entirely captured

WarriorN · 13/09/2023 07:02

Would it be feedback? Or is that just radio 4?

tresleches · 13/09/2023 07:08

6music also has a WhatsApp number and text number direct to shows in case anyone wants to make any requests

Loveacuppa · 13/09/2023 07:14

So the controversial influencer Andrew Tate, recently charged in Romania with offences including rape and human trafficking, is covered by the BBC via interview and group debate.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-65967135
There was a recurring theme of people on both sides of the argument feeling like they can't talk honestly about it, or thinking the discussion always gets toxic.
When it comes to the beliefs Andrew Tate says he has and how they divide opinion, that's inevitable - but listening to our audience is key. It's their world we are reflecting and informing.

But Roisin, expressing the logical and responsible view of not medicalising children, is just wiped completely by the BBC?

Would love to hear someone senior trying to justify this editorial stance.

WarriorN · 13/09/2023 07:20

So - I did some tests of other greats on the same shows such as Debbie Harry and Blur. You can't actually listen to previous episodes of theirs either so it could be to do with music licensing on listen again regarding those recordings, and potentially also on WH.

Need to find another singer who's been on wh recently

I mourn the BBC of my youth, which ‘spoke truth to power’. How weak and dishonest it has become. Like the Guardian. Where are the campaigning liberal news media that I used to trust and admire?

I have more respect now for the conservative media I used to despise.

Me too. We keep hearing people blethering on about the right wing but the right isn't that fundamentally different to what it was.
The left on the other hand is unrecognisable. I've considered myself left wing all my life and still do, but is failing hard: leftwing parties, leftwing media. Its as if the integrity has been completely stripped away. Its been hard to see.

WhereAreWeNow · 13/09/2023 07:45

I'm so angry about this. I can't believe that all my favourite presenters on 6 are happy with this.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/09/2023 07:51

Radio 4's Feedback programme covers topics to do with all the BBC's radio channels. In recent series, they've spent quite a bit of time on the proposed cuts to local radio. They would be the obvious place to cover this, but they're off air at the moment, back in October. Worth sending in comments now, though, as they must be gearing up for the new series.

I'm not up to speed on this issue, so hazy about who Roisin Murphy is or what she does or has said. If there could possibly be a statistics-related spin on it, another possibility is to contact More or Less, which is currently on Radio 4 in the same slot as Feedback gets (they take turns). Their remit is to take listener queries and factcheck them.

Will be interesting to see if the BBC covers this as a news story. That would probably flush out the 6 Music Controller or similar.

Time to stop paying the licence fee

I have ! Only stream now.
BBC is so desperate they have given me 6 months free before they remind me of the cancellation again.

HadrianRich · 13/09/2023 07:54

But she is actually right... the non reversible side effects of puberty blockers are horrendous. The decision to take them in adolescence is proven to almost certainly result in later taking cross sex hormones. Life long dependency on medication is great news for big pharma.

She is being scapegoated. Strung up as an example.

BabyStopCryin · 13/09/2023 07:56

Brewdug · 13/09/2023 00:17

Rights reasons? That sometimes happens on some podcast versions of BBC shows I listen to. But a live performance suggests it's a session recording that will be theirs. Why cut the song and not the whole thing though?

Why not state that if it’s the case? They know we are watching for this type of nonsense

cancelthebbc · 13/09/2023 08:05

Have cancelled my Direct Debit and account - a woman is cancelled for expressing concern for medicalised children but men are allowed to continue with their creepy shit.

The BBC won't take note.

We live under extreme patriarchy - everything is about what men want.

Its not what she said.

It's that she spoke on a topic when she isn't a Good Person (the fact she's not a man also counts against her) and without paying obeisance to the script.

There will be panic at the moment because people are popping up all over the place making reasonable, normal statements that its very hard to argue with.

So cancelling must get harsher.
