If anyone is a member of the Oxford Union it says her talk is at 5pm tomorrow.

Is anyone from FWR going?

I feel a bit sad for Riz, it’s no fun having an important and successful daddy who only notices you when you get in the papers for acting like a prize nob.

"Important and successful" might be debatable but I take your point. And for poor Riz, they're going to find the hard way that the internet never forgets especially when you make a giant, attention-seeking tit/[other non-gendered body part] of yourself.

SidewaysOtter · 01/06/2023 10:44

I think it came from Twitter, but my absolute favourite moment from all this was a cropped picture to show Riz's head on the table and the caption:

"Bloody hell, Salome, not again?"

Hannibal eventually decided that the world wasn't, after all, actually more interesting with Clarice alive

Critique noted, substitute with ‘self important and wealthy’?

😃

I'd agree with that :)

She looks like she’s wearing a t-shirt made for her mates bedroom punk band.

Can we talk about how Stock is sitting? If a man sat like that you'd all be crying "manspreading".

Do better.

Love it 😂

Annoyingly I can’t find it now, but my favourite Twitter photo was one where someone had stuck they’s forlorn little head - just the head - into the background of that nice chap whose kids came barging into his office while he was doing a TV interview during lockdown 😂

Apparently Riz aka S***t was a school kid activist who helped organise a nationwide school strike in 2019. Methinks they fancied themself as Suffolk’s answer to Greta Thunberg but the climate change thing didn’t bring them enough prominence, so a new bandwagon to jump on had to be found pronto.

Only if she has balls (which she does, just not the real kind) and was taking up space on public transport. Don't you have anything better to do than police how women sit?

As someone said - do better.

littlbrowndog · 01/06/2023 13:44

What a great piece by Janice turner ✊✊✊

It's worth noting when people use specifically loaded terms for women speaking, talking, commenting or responding.

See also: 'screech' 'spew' 'yell' 'scream' 'shrill' etc.

All of these loaded terms are designed to diminish women's views and voices. They are used casually, but reveal a fear of affording women's voices respect, lest women gain too much power or ability to speak.

As an aside, I was quite surprised to see Catherine McKinnon use the word 'spew' recently when talking about news reports on transwomen in sport. I think I've become very sensitive to how often these terms are used. It's insiduous, but always instructive.

They say God loves a trier but even God will have tired of your silliness now Merlin, give it a rest, change the record it is tedious, neither funny nor clever it just makes you look foolish.

Yes, note how transwomen 'women' better, sitting with daintily crossed ankles. They love the Patriarchy!
Whilst unruly women especially Lesbians don't give a damn...

I haven’t read this article (paywall) but the quote from Dr Stock in the headline is cracking me up…

Peter Tatchell pulls out of union debate as he is upset that there was no trans person present at Kathleen Stock's debate there.

Oh well, too bad we'll get over it I guess.

Heh! I also liked her “get their iron levels checked” remark on the Radio Sussex interview linked upthread.

SelfPortraitWithHagstone · 01/06/2023 14:39

For everyone who enjoyed 'get their iron levels checked', here is her most recent piece for unherd. I wonder if one of the reasons she drives the TRAs up the wall is because she's not only clever and reasonable but very funny...

Thank you! That was a most enjoyable read!

My son certainly fits the description of the sort of student who is unreported in these media stories - longing for robust (but well mannered!) debate without fear of ostracisation by his Riz-like peers.

ArabeIIaScott · 01/06/2023 15:33

Brilliant article. Heartening and humane.

It's the rage of the "cis ally". She's in a position she knows she can't completely defend, she is aware of the flimsiness of it.

SigourneyHoward · 01/06/2023 16:05

Riz is on with Fi and Jane on Times Radio in next 1/2hr - I won't be able to listen live but will be interesting to hear how they approach given the kids glove style they took with Eddie Izzard...
