If anyone is a member of the Oxford Union it says her talk is at 5pm tomorrow.

Is anyone from FWR going?

From the Telegraph's live reporting -

A few hundred people have turned out for a protest against Ms Stock’s appearance.

Speakers said they were “fighting for their rights” and took part in chants of “trans rights are humans rights” and “no borders, no nation, trans liberation”.

Activists chanted “cut your system, f*ck your hate, we are not open for debate” before setting off an a march towards the union.

Students against Ms Stock’s appearance said the Union should have made the event more of a debate, however those queuing up to attend the event said they were supporting free speech.

Eh, I thought they didn't want debate.

hoochycrone · 30/05/2023 17:15

Go, Kathleen! Have courage and strength.

CountZacular · 30/05/2023 17:17

Oxford Trans+ Pride’s leaflet urged protesters to “cover their faces and read up on their rights” as “some heated interactions are likely”, with legal observers invited to watch the police.

So not the loved filled, fun event promised in the BBC earlier then?

exwhyzed · 30/05/2023 17:17

I saw her on BBC news today. The tide has definitely turned. The BBC even reporting on it is massive. Obviously they had to stay neutral.... but it was clear that an editorial decision that this is important had been made.

Kathleen Stock in a nice garden making clear concise points about the importance of language. Some TRA daftos in a pub whining that its all about trying to deny them an existence. Absolutely no one watching the two 'sides' can have come away with the impression the Stock is a meany transphobe.

GCOxonian · 30/05/2023 17:19

“F*ck your hate” - Kathleen Stock has made it clear she hates nobody. I don’t think any of these children have done their homework or read her book.

StephanieSuperpowers · 30/05/2023 17:21

I think it's hilarious how Trans Joy and his mates have forced the issue so far that now everyone can see them for who they actually are. Slipping under the radar was their best strategy and they've blown it. Now everyone can judge the right side of history for themselves.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/05/2023 17:28

Thank you for the Oxford Mail live link - it appears that protestors are holding up proceedings inside.

RedRosie · 30/05/2023 17:28

Kathleen Stock gave a short, measured and totally authentic interview to Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning. She's amazing.

I wish I could be there to support her tonight.

Ferrari asked if she was nervous, and she just said "yes".

Iafontaine · 30/05/2023 17:28

I'm cheering KS on from afar. I hope there's a lot of support for her on the streets (as well as in the Union).

BluebellBlueballs · 30/05/2023 17:29

Sounds like protesters have tried to disrupt the proceedings from inside the building ie as members of the OU. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest and just makes them look like the idiots they are.

SirChenjins · 30/05/2023 17:33

Only to be expected really - shouting down and silencing debate instead of listening , learning and expanding their horizons is the limit of their intellectual abilities.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/05/2023 17:36

‘Police have been called’ - surely police should have been already there and a plan in place?

Waitwhat23 · 30/05/2023 17:36

And this is what is being offered to support the anti women protesters through their 'trauma' (from the Independent live feed)

At what point does the University say, kindly, that if they are simply unable to listen to facts, then University perhaps isn't the place for them?

Seems it's been halted and she's been taken from the building according to the live feed here..

Ohyoudodoyou · 30/05/2023 17:42

There's so much global publicity about this even if
KS doesn't get to speak it's going to prove a massive turning point for free speech.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/05/2023 17:43

Is 'she' KS or the protestor?

MoleAtTheCounter · 30/05/2023 17:45

Telegraph -

A protestor has glued themselves to the floor of the Oxford Union in protest of the Kathleen Stock talk.
Riz Possnett, a student activist is sitting in front of Prof Stock and Union president Matthew Dick wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the words “No More Dead Trans Kids”.
A protester is sitting in front of the speakers and refusing to move.
The protesters have been booed by members of the audience, with one attendee calling for “free speech” and another urging everyone to “listen to Kathleen Stock”
Marie Daouda, a French lecturer at Oriel College, has taken the opportunity to make a statement while the Union waits for police officers.
She said that “anyone with two free hands” should take a minute to Google the Tavistock gender clinic scandal
Police officers appear to be struggling to work out how to remove the activist student Riz Possnett from the floor of the Union. The student is said to have glued their hands to the floor. Four officers have arrived with tools to try and remove the student and are filming as they do so.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/05/2023 17:45

Riz. Quelle surprise.

Vebrithien · 30/05/2023 17:45

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/05/2023 17:43

Is 'she' KS or the protestor?

I couldn't work that out either.

Do they risk mis-gendering the protester?

Poor journalism?

Excellent reporting, keeping us refreshing ..?

BreadInCaptivity · 30/05/2023 17:46

The leaflet which protesters passed round said: "No more dead trans kids."

Like the healthy 17 year old from the original Dutch study who died following horrific complications from cross sex surgery?

Or maybe no more sterilised trans children with no sexual function?

You'd think Oxford undergrads would know how to read research.....

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/05/2023 17:48

‘Riz’ has been removed.
I hope KS feels able to continue.

Iafontaine · 30/05/2023 17:48

Well done Dr Marie Daouda
