Uses she/her throughout, ‘one woman show’ etc etc - calling anyone who disagrees that TWAW ‘fascists’.

Every time I think I’m inured to this rubbish I read or see something that makes me despair. What a pathetic, preening liar he is.

‘I’m going for it like crazy’: Eddie Izzard on her one-woman, 19-role Great Expectations

After 30 years, the standup star is now finally winning acting plaudits, for a ‘tour de force’ take on Dickens with sharper punchlines – and Hamlet is next

This is hilarious:

Article: What does the artist formerly known as Eddie Izzardd*, who recently announced she was adding “Suzy” to her name, wish to be called in print? “I think stay with ‘Eddie’ because that’s my public name,” she says when we meet at her manager’s office in London. “And I am gender-fluid. I don’t want to lose Eddie. What I don’t want is ‘Suzy Eddie’.

Excellent - and already archived for posterity, I see.

To be clear, I’m not agreeing with Eddie’s framing of the girls as interlopers. But I thought it was revealing.

Fair 'nuff, Catten. It is revealing indeed.

Presumably being a bog standard gay man just isn't shocking and different anymore so these attention seeking types have to crank it up a bit. They aren't just gay . Oh no far too mainstream. Now they're gender fluid, non binary she/ he/ they/ them/xi/ xim. On Monday I'm Suzy and wear a dress. On Tuesday I'm Eddie just to keep you on your toes ( and give myself the opportunity to be offended when you use the wrong pronouns because, although I was she yesterday today I am they).Absolute bullshit

Izzard isn't gay. Izzard wondered about whether he could be a male lesbian. Hmm

Doodar · 26/04/2023 23:20

he's trying anything to stay relevant

Meggymoo777 · 26/04/2023 23:37

This is very disappointing. I'm obviously one of the few that quite enjoyed Eddie 10 or so years ago, thought his stand up was brilliant, how it was structured was so clever with stories intertwining and meandering, no need for vulgarity, read his autobiography and really enjoyed it and found him so interesting, very determined person with what I thought was good intentions. Always admired that he was comfortable cross dressing, wear what makes you feel good, I couldn't care less if it's not impacting anyone else.

But this is just a joke, Eddie is not a woman and this is fucking offensive. I'll be chucking his book out of my house, actually a bit sad about this one.

Meggymoo777 · 26/04/2023 23:38

bringbacktheladiesloos · 26/04/2023 19:31

At the end of the interview he says he'll feel they've won once trans is basically boring. When people don't bat an eyelid. BUT he already had that.

None of us gave a fig when he said ' this isn't a woman's dress, it's my dress', or when he wore heels and lipstick. It was bloody fine. We all kind of forgot about it and liked his candour.

However, insisting on being recognised AS a woman is different altogether.
It feels like being trans wasn't getting him quite enough attention. He knows that insisting on the pronouns whenever he feels in girl mode gets him attention.
Trans women especially don't want to go unnoticed. The attentionseekingness of it all absolutely reeks.

Pink phone. Blood red claws and lips. Very few actual women walk around looking like this. It's definitely for attention when a man does it.

Makes me puke.

Exactly @bringbacktheladiesloos he already had that, people didn't bat an eye, it was just Eddie dressing how he wanted, absolutely no problem.

God I'm sickened at him

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 26/04/2023 23:41

Writing about being in the public toilet with school girls is such a strange anecdote for someone who has claim just to be a transvestite for the longest time and who wants a political career.

Meggymoo777 · 26/04/2023 23:44

Backstreets · 26/04/2023 22:36

He's an interesting case. Was never quite my cup of tea even though I was a massive comedy fan back in the day (he always came across massively self satisfied and I preferred the introverted neurotics), but I respected his "I'm a bloke and I'll wear what I want thanks" schtick. There was something about it which rang authentic and subversive, and a little melancholy, too. Even though he claimed to be having a laugh he was very visibly alone in his space, not part of a scene that all dressed like that, which I felt like must have taken a lot of guts.

But what seemed brave, genuine and human when he did it very consciously trying to increase the space in which to be a man, becomes power mad, delusional and deeply unlikeable when he tries to falsely move the boundaries of what it means to be a woman.

You've said it best @Backstreets

If SuzyEddie were an actual 61 year old woman I very much doubt that that would be their choice of hairstyle, makeup and nails. Even if they were in showbusiness, even if they were a 'comic'. Why? Because they would know they would be ridiculed.

Jenny Eclair is 63.

Wow. So much hatred so much anger. Who cares what gender he sees himself as. And mentioning some toilet incident from years ago when some teenage girls were goading him is really clutching at straws. Even someone likening him to Gary Glitter. Oooh we really reach the bottom of the barrel.

zanahoria · 27/04/2023 00:00

It really pisses me off when absurd luvvies prattle on about being victims of fascism. Were they beaten up by para military thugs? Or did someone forget which pronoun to use ?

This is a man who is showing women exactly what he thinks of us. And it's not pretty! And i don't just mean his choice of clothes. His views, his words, his careless disregard of women in his pursuit to be relevant and validated.

His colonisation of our words our spaces, jobs reserved for women if he'd got his way. He's changed his narrative about himself so many times in order to stay current out just shows it all for the mockery it is.

I don't think I hate him. I don't know him enough to hate him. There's definite dislike for him though and too right I'm fucking angry.

He's the one who has a thing for the story about the girls in the toilet otherwise none of us would know about it!

I missed the glitter comment so will have to go back to check that one.

It's not us scrapping the bottom of the barrel though it's him.

Can't anyone see? THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES ON !!

I mean, we care. Obviously.

Because gender delusion impacts negatively on women and girls. And he’s taking the absolute piss out of us.

Men really do ‘woman’ so embarrassingly badly, don’t they?

Poor wee deluded souls <sympathetic / patronising head tilt>

I sometimes wonder what these people see when they look in the mirror. Eddie as a man is ver
y attractive but as a woman he's a disaster.

SargentSagittarius · 27/04/2023 02:00

Exactly.

Eddie’s a good looking man. Why can’t he just accept, and be, himself?

What’s gone so wrong for us (as a society) that telling people that they’re good enough; that they’re the one and only (perfect or imperfect) ‘you’ that the world needs, is somehow wrong?

Just be ‘you’. It doesn’t matter which sex you are. You’re still you and and you can live, and present yourself, however you want.

You can’t change you - but that doesn’t matter, because you’re enough just the way you are.

Why does it feel so transgressive to say this these days…? 😔

WandaWomblesaurus · 27/04/2023 02:28

Izzard scared some girls in their bathroom. And he acts like he's a victim.
Fuck him.

You think Eddie's a woman? You think Eddie's the same sex as your mum?

Someone’s reading this at The Guardian because the photo captions have been changed.

Mermaidparades · 27/04/2023 07:00

@AnythingToSay not sure about @PhoenixIsFlying but yes Suzy identifies as the same sex as my Mum. I don’t have a problem with that. More power to her, I’m sure she has struggled at times over the years with her identity due to the constraints of our society. She seems confident and driven.

I had so much respect for Eddie Izzard. Aside from the ultra marathons etc, and the fact that I actually literally peed myself laughing the first time I saw Glorious and had to crawl out of the room because I couldn't breathe. Met him through work and he seemed like a nice, intelligent, generous, down to earth guy. As far as his cross dressing went, he really seemed to "get it", he was a man in a frock with fake breasts, and that was fine. It's like he's had a complete personality transplant, and honestly I'm really gutted that that guy I spent time and money on enjoying and supporting had turned into such a pretentious, egotistical wanker.

This is exactly how I feel.
I loved that he embraced who he was.
I loved the fact he openly said I'm a transvestite and this is what it's like.
I'm a man who likes to wear womens clothes, but they are not womens clothes really they are my clothes.

I read his autobiography I had his tours on video.

I saw him as someone out there not afraid to tear down Gender stereotypes, an activist against toxic masculinity and expectations of maleness.

Sadly now its like he doesn't give a fuck about breaking those stereotypes anymore, and is happy to condemning men to the high standards of masculinity he fought so hard against.

and now how horrifically he shows such contempt and hate for women, their reality, their biology, their rights, their opinions.

He is the absolute epitome of toxic masculinity, because(in his mind) how could he possibly be just a male when he has femine traits?

Littlesprouts · 27/04/2023 07:30

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many she/her pronouns shoehorned into an article before, it feels like The Guardian is gaslighting its readers and thumbing its nose at GC feminists.

Yes I said the same, Kalimba, it reads as if it was a deliberate choice to stress it so repeatedly. It's jarring and distracting, an illusory truth.

Another poster mentioned this and it's a fair point - if Izzard repeatedly claims gender fluidity, why the clamour to humour this harmful pretence? Anyone with eyes can see that's no she/her.

Florissante · 27/04/2023 07:34

shortandpaleandoldandugly · 26/04/2023 21:10

I have read Eddie’s account of the incident many years ago, where she was challenged in a women’s public toilet by some teenage girls and chased them off. I don’t think that Eddie was in the right there, but I know some would argue that Eddie was legally entitled to use the Ladies without harassment.

And truly, that last sentence sums up all that is wrong in this. Teenage girls did not want a man in their toilet. That was and remains a perfectly reasonable state of affairs. He "chased them off"- chased girls out of a female toilet so that he could use it. No, he wasn't legally entitled to that female space. No, those girls didn't have to share their space with a man. It's bloody madness.

He used the space to put on make-up and women's clothing because he was too cowardly to do it at home. But that was more important than teenaged girls wanting to use the space that they were legally entitled to.

Dedodee · 27/04/2023 07:47

Well Eddie is getting what he wants here.
Having his preferred identity discussed.
He’s a man.
A very talented man.
He can identify how he wants because that’s his right.
And I can call him a he or a she if I want because he is a he and using she is dependent on his boy/girl mode and I have no way of knowing when he’s which because - he’s a man!
