Uses she/her throughout, ‘one woman show’ etc etc - calling anyone who disagrees that TWAW ‘fascists’.

Every time I think I’m inured to this rubbish I read or see something that makes me despair. What a pathetic, preening liar he is.

‘I’m going for it like crazy’: Eddie Izzard on her one-woman, 19-role Great Expectations

After 30 years, the standup star is now finally winning acting plaudits, for a ‘tour de force’ take on Dickens with sharper punchlines – and Hamlet is next

I know some would argue that Eddie was legally entitled to use the Ladies without harassment.

And they’d be wrong. Eddie wasn’t entitled to use the Ladies with or without harassment.

Boiledbeetle · 26/04/2023 21:11

Eddie is not a she he is very much a he taking the piss out of women. He doesnt have an issue slipping out of girl mode with the removal of high heels and doesn't have a problem with slipping into boy mode for the male better paid roles.

He has no issue with trampling all over women's rights and spaces so quite frankly I don't give a fuck about Eddie

hexsnidgett · 26/04/2023 21:13

I think it's worse because I loved him when he was a man wearing nail varnish and a dress.
I keep hoping it's a long con, but sadly I don't really believe it.

SargentSagittarius · 26/04/2023 21:13

Men really do ‘woman’ so embarrassingly badly, don’t they?

Poor wee deluded souls <sympathetic / patronising head tilt>

I’m GC, but yes, this thread is rather personal and spiteful.

Some clearly don’t like the style of the article, but I don’t think Eddie is doing anything wrong here. If she wants to perform her own play or stand as a PPC for Labour, why shouldn’t she?

I have read Eddie’s account of the incident many years ago, where she was challenged in a women’s public toilet by some teenage girls and chased them off. I don’t think that Eddie was in the right there, but I know some would argue that Eddie was legally entitled to use the Ladies without harassment.

He's stamping all over women's rights. Pretending that being a woman amounts to nothing more than dressing up in a dress and heels. Invading their safe spaces.

ropey Pat Butcher knock-off
My new name for him!
Pity, like many here I loved him in the '90s and 'they aren't women's clothes, they are my clothes'. Who knew it would come to this?

Sorry, but this just makes me so angry.

He gets to pick and choose when he’s a man and when he’s a woman. Because he’s a man.

So he’ll never have to experience what we have to experience, and can’t opt out of whenever we like - because of our biology.

He’s taking the complete piss out of us. And we’re expected to be OK with it.

And you’re OK with him berating teen girls for questioning his presence in a single-sex space?? FM actual L.

I had so much respect for Eddie Izzard. Aside from the ultra marathons etc, and the fact that I actually literally peed myself laughing the first time I saw Glorious and had to crawl out of the room because I couldn't breathe. Met him through work and he seemed like a nice, intelligent, generous, down to earth guy. As far as his cross dressing went, he really seemed to "get it", he was a man in a frock with fake breasts, and that was fine. It's like he's had a complete personality transplant, and honestly I'm really gutted that that guy I spent time and money on enjoying and supporting had turned into such a pretentious, egotistical wanker.

My feelings exactly

ValerieDoonican · 26/04/2023 21:35

If SuzyEddie were an actual 61 year old woman I very much doubt that that would be their choice of hairstyle, makeup and nails. Even if they were in showbusiness, even if they were a 'comic'. Why? Because they would know they would be ridiculed.

Cattenberg · 26/04/2023 21:39

I’ve found the extract from Eddie’s memoir. Eddie didn’t actually chase the girls away, my mistake. The girls followed her for a while shouting, and when she turned around and shouted back, they ran away.

I think the way Eddie frames the incident is very interesting, though. Eddie just wanted privacy and didn’t expect to find the girls there. They were smoking and probably skiving. It almost sounds as though they were the interlopers.

Eddie Izzard Got Chased by Three Teen Girls on His First Day Wearing a Dress Out

In his memoir Believe Me, the comedian talks about being confronted while changing in a women’s bathroom.

The girls followed him for a while shouting (probably because they were girls and an adult man had been using spaces that he wasn't welcome in) and when he turned around and shouted back, they ran away (probably because they were girls and an angry man shouted at them)

Barracker was right with Pronouns are Rohypnol - the story sounds a bit different when you accurately describe the sex of the people involved

If we take away the surface layers (clothing, make up). This is a story about a man in the ladies toilets.

MRDA:

’Well, he would say that, wouldn’t he?’

He’s a man. He didn’t expect to find girls in a woman’s loo? Why on earth not?

He doesn’t belong there, he’s not wanted nor welcome there.

Fast forward to 2023 and with Eddie especially it's still about a man in the ladies toilets!

RoseslnTheHospital · 26/04/2023 21:51

Girls are not interlopers in women's toilets. Even if they are skiving and smoking. Girls should be challenging men that insert themselves into single sex facilities.

CurlewKate · 26/04/2023 21:52

I mourn the days of "These aren't girl's clothes, they're my clothes."

CampervanKween · 26/04/2023 21:53

Do you think they realise how ridiculous it all is? I've lost respect in a lot of people over all this nonsense. But I guess we've seen time after time through history the madness of crowds, the Emperor's New Clothes and so on. There's nothing new under the sun I guess.

Cattenberg · 26/04/2023 21:54

I try to use trans people’s preferred names and pronouns out of courtesy. But I agree this makes the story less clear, especially as Eddie apparently left the toilets in “boy mode”.

Exactly. It's not spiteful to criticise a man proudly wearing a badge stating that he doesn't give a fuck about women. It is, however, spiteful to have a go at women who do give a fuck.

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 26/04/2023 22:08

I saw this on FB and there were quite a few people disagreeing - some just taking the piss. I put a couple of my own comments on - but got replies like TWAW and #bekind. 🙄

"If SuzyEddie were an actual 61 year old woman I very much doubt that that would be their choice of hairstyle, makeup and nails."
If she was an actual 61 year old woman she wouldn't be getting the attention or the gigs.
