Serious question, so I can go back and discuss with my DDs (aged 38 and 42) without a row. I support JKR and they call me a TERF!

To live their lives without having their every move discussed and criticised on mumsnet and in the media

You do know that's not a human right, right? And a luxury not afforded to plenty of groups of people!

ArabeIIaScott · 17/04/2023 19:01

I highly recommend the 'trans health manifesto'. It's a classic.

That's wrt healthcare, of course. I don't have an exhaustive list for legal demands. Maybe someone else does? <hopeful face>

Riapia · 17/04/2023 19:01

If your DD’s are 38 and 42 and still believe that crap you would be undertaking an impossible task in trying to hold an intelligent conversation with them.

SmartHome · 17/04/2023 19:02

Strangely, they can never define what rights it is that they don't have compared to women, gay people or even the general population. That's because they are not in ANY way being persecuted, treated illegally or being genocided. What they are really struggling with is that, apart from other people like them, and the people that have hitched their wagon to the 'cause', for whatever reason, the majority of people, from women to teenage boys to boomers, are laughing at them behind their backs. Because they're being ridiculous. Nobody believes it's possible to change sex, even they don't. And it's everyone else's fault really for initially going along with it, 'being kind', pretending to affirm them - yes of course you are a real women now, you go girl etc etc..and really, it was cruel. Because it must be unpleased to have built your whole life around an identity and to slowly be coming to the conclusion that most people think you're being silly, at best, or predatory, at worse.

I already covered this one.
For you to shut up and stop questioning?

But thanks for the confirmation.

Man alive, stay away from AIBU

I started a thread once that turned on me. It was carnage. The memory is still raw

I'm with Helen Staniland on this one:

What rights do transpeople believe they do not have?
Signalbox · 17/04/2023 19:30

The right to demand that society goes along with their ideological belief system and the right to punish anyone who won’t comply.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 17/04/2023 17:58

More to the point, what rights do your DDs think trans people don’t have?

my guess would the right to insist upon everyone believing, and therefore acting and treating, these blokes as women.

Ohhhh, so they don’t want the same rights as everyone else, they want more rights than everyone else. Okey dokey.

Wow...

We demand nothing less than the total abolition of the clinic, of psychiatry, and of the medical-industrial complex

So nothing too unreasonable then

You missed out the immediate release from prison of all and any convicted trans criminals. Coz, well, whatever. As The late, great Frank Carson used to say "it's a cracker". Im amazed these people can tie their own shoelaces.

Wasn’t there something on there about carrying out their own surgeries too?

Absolutely this. If their suggestions don't infringe on women's rights I'll be astounded - and the fact that some women might not object to this is irrelevant, because they can't give away the rights of those who do.

DadOnIce · 17/04/2023 19:44

They believe they are discriminated against because they are not allowed to call themselves the sex other than the one they were born as. Problem is, nobody can do this (yet). Non-trans people cannot do this either. It is not a discriminatory law if it applies to everyone. They may as well say that they are discriminated against because they can't run red lights or shoplift.

You could make the clear contrast between the very real legal discrimination which gay and lesbian people still faced in the decades after decriminalisation of homosexuality -- e.g. Section 28 (not repealed until the third Labour term), gay men not being able to give blood after the Aids panic, and not being allowed to get married. There's nothing comparable to this which applies to trans people.

They should try being disabled, or being old -- that's where the real discrimination is.

hangonsnoopy · 17/04/2023 19:46

If they were fighting for the application of pre-existing rights, that would be great.

After all, women have a specific set of human rights in principle, but they are often violated around the world.

I don't know if there are human rights which apply specifically to trans people, but TRAs don't seem to know what human rights are anyway.

sunshinesupermum · 17/04/2023 19:47

MandyMotherOfBrian good point. How to ask without them flying off the handle!

No-one here is going to criticise them provided that those moves don't infringe on the rights of others.

@sunshinesupermum It is a question frequently and constantly asked and never, ever answered, I can guess as to the reasons why. I doubt either of your daughters will answer it either, perhaps you could ask them why they can't answer it when they don't.

mrsharrisgoestoparis · 17/04/2023 19:51

I was speaking to a trans person a man becoming a woman who went into the ladies toilets and was wondering why people had a problem. he was dressed as a man with a full face of makeup on and he was so condescending I felt like telling him that he was in the wrong and that I wouldn't feel safe sharing a toilet with him He actually a complete bully with a major chip on his shoulder. Am I wrong or is he wrong??????

alabamathunderpussy · 17/04/2023 19:52

@Rightsraptor - thanks, thats very well articulated and helpful as a response

To live their lives without having their every move discussed and criticised on mumsnet and in the media

But nobody has that right. Do you think that transpeople are the only people to be criticised on mn and by the media?

GailBlancheViola · 17/04/2023 19:52

If they fly off the handle then it proves they have no logical or constructive answer, they have nothing which is why they get angry when asked to discuss it.

And yet they expect the world to roll over and accommodate them.
