Boycott New Zealand

Clymene · 26/03/2023 16:48

Let's hit the state sanctioned violence against women where it hurts - in their pockets.

Off the top of my head:

Wine - Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, the Ned, Wairau Cove, Brancott Eatate, Cloudy Bay
Lamb - check the label to make sure it's British
Manuka honey and ordinary honey - M&S stock quite a few.
Wool
Allbirds shoes
Canterbury clothing.

Have I missed anything?

Also write to the PM: [email protected]
Minister for trade: [email protected]

And tell them you're boycotting and why. There's no point if they don't know you're doing it!

It's certainly off any holiday plans, which is a shame. I've always wanted to go, but it's a fucking scary place judging by what the politicians and police are applauding.

Clymene · 26/03/2023 17:12

I'd always wanted to go but I don't any more. Apart from whqt they did to KJK, watching that older woman being punched repeatedly by a young man has really scared me

I am in the USA, I wonder what products are well known over here, other than NZ Lamb? Anyone have ideas?

People obviously like to visit NZ due to LOTR being filmed there. Who would have known the country really was full of Orcs?

IcakethereforeIam · 26/03/2023 18:21

Even listening to Crowded House or watching Sam Neill feels wrong (stupidly I know). Definitely off the travel plans, I will email and tell them.

ApocalipstickNow · 26/03/2023 18:26

I’m not giving up watching Sam Neill (or Karl Urban for that matter). Sorry.

LittleFingerStrength · 26/03/2023 19:18

Just checked the Tesco lamb I plan to eat for Easter, it's British!

Why anyone boycotting is buying M&S honey is beyond me, they have Queer ideology boundaries breaking changing rooms.

I do buy the odd item there I can't buy elsewhere, they have lost a lot of my business.

Lots of wine in the US comes from New Zealand. But we can purchase a a Chenin Blanc from France or Chile. No need for California or New Zealand.

Musomama1 · 26/03/2023 19:37

Let's hope the Finn's stay out of it, or even better condemn the behaviour in NZ. Crowded House are one of mine and DHs favourite bands 🤣.

I told DH last night though that they could fucking do one. Sacrilege in this house.

Whaeanui · 26/03/2023 19:50

I’m a kiwi and I don’t buy many NZ products because it’s better to buy British when I live here!
The only thing I would say is, that most of those TRA’s are city based, lots of them from the capital. The rest of the country may be quite naive about the issue and quite a lot of kiwis are horrified at the violence too. The wine area of Hawkes bay just had a massive cyclone and they had nothing to do with the protests. Farmers would have zero clue about this. They are also maligned in the media when they protest which they’ve been doing in recent months. Something to bear in mind.

Whaeanui · 26/03/2023 19:51

Sam Neill was born in Ireland often lives outside NZ. He has a place in Sydney, uk and elsewhere

FourTeaFallOut · 26/03/2023 19:55

My dh is a Kiwi. Not sure how far we are supposed to lean in on this boycott? I could just put his merino shit in the dryer by way of compromise?

I just did that today by accident.

I feel a lot better about it now, 👍

IcakethereforeIam · 26/03/2023 20:11

What! Shit in the dryer!? We're doing this now? I don't have a dryer. Right, off to Lewis's in the morning.

<hopes they don't have cctv><prays for a typo>

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/03/2023 20:18

Andrew Doyle is on GB news now, Helen Joyce is on, discussing PP in N Z.

Your commitment to the cause is admirable. 😁

SweetCoriander · 26/03/2023 20:43

I've been boycotting M&S since I was made aware of that website where men describe wanking on M&S underwear in the changing rooms and putting it back on the rails. M&S has been made aware also and seemingly couldn't care less. The staff are upset by it; it's not their fault what M&S HQ set as their stupid policy around men's overarching rights.

WarmWinterSun · 26/03/2023 20:48

Why is NZ on the boycott list?

Clymene · 26/03/2023 22:46

WarmWinterSun · 26/03/2023 20:48

Why is NZ on the boycott list?

Because the police let men assault women. They were also going to deny a woman an entry visa, searched her on entry, cancelled her hotel room and left aggressive messages under her hotel room door.

New Zealand is not a safe country for women. I feel really sorry for the women who are stuck there. It's a horrendous dangerous country. Not much bette than Afghanistan.

NZ woman here. Currently feel very safe, thank you very much, as do all my female friends. Yes, we are urban, educated women, but from all sides of the political spectrum. Feel very proud that we stood by our transgender sisters, and can't help but laugh at how much this has caused the UK to froth: why are you so concerned about us? Focus on your own country, and the climate of fear in which you are living. We are absolutely fine, and proud to be leading the world in female rights again. Mumsnet does not represent the way the huge majority of my friends feel, and Posey Parker most definitely does not speak for me: the coloniser arrogance...

boycott away!

Or you could get him to do his own domestic chores! Hmm

He does know how to work a dryer, right?

JustAMum2023 · 27/03/2023 02:08

@Bowlofporridge , I am also an educated urban kiwi woman. NZ is a horrifically dangerous place for women, especially those who are not white middle class women. Lesbians do not have the right to meet up without men in this country. Women do not have the right to same sex spaces, sports a
or education. We do not even have the right to speak on NZ platforms. We have to rely on British or American platforms. Shame on you for supporting violence against women.

Bowlofporridge · 27/03/2023 02:30

Shame on you for making the logical leap that I support violence against women. The biggest perpetrators of violence in NZ are male partners against their partners. I do not support any violence against women, be they cis or trans.

Also, lesbians do not have the right to meet without males?? What on earth are you on about? That's just absolutely ridiculous…

How sad to be so scared. I am happy to live in a city that has spoken out loudly for inclusivity, rather than prejudice.

Feel free to speak your piece on any forum, NZ or otherwise. But don’t you proclaim that you speak for all women, or that anyone who doesn’t support your views advocates violence.

AngeloMysterioso · 27/03/2023 03:00

We are absolutely fine, and proud to be leading the world in female rights again.

How’s that now??

Feel free to speak your piece on any forum, NZ or otherwise.

Unless your piece concerns the rights of women and children to be safely and fairly separated from males, in which case a violent, screaming horde of misogynists will turn up to throw things at you and threaten you with assault, rape and death.

If you shop online don't get lamb from Sainsbury's they can't pick British, it's, "British or NZ".

Check fruits, at this time of year there isn't much fruit produced here.
