Boycott New Zealand

Let's hit the state sanctioned violence against women where it hurts - in their pockets.

Off the top of my head:

Wine - Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, the Ned, Wairau Cove, Brancott Eatate, Cloudy Bay
Lamb - check the label to make sure it's British
Manuka honey and ordinary honey - M&S stock quite a few.
Wool
Allbirds shoes
Canterbury clothing.

Have I missed anything?

Also write to the PM: [email protected]
Minister for trade: [email protected]

And tell them you're boycotting and why. There's no point if they don't know you're doing it!

Sorry I don't know why I put a quote there.

Anyway what are the rates of VAWAG in NZ?

What do you think about prostitution being legal? Brothels offering '1 hour of anything you want"?

Are you OK with an elderly woman being punched repeatedly in the face?

”A disgrace to women”?? Have you read any of my posts? I don’t stand with violence at all, but if Posey Parker wants to go to a public venue in NZ to exercise her rights to free speech, then people in NZ (including women) can exercise their rights back to drown her out.

You’re getting so worked up. We are safe and happy here. I’m not scared to let my young children walk home from school by themselves, go to public loos by themselves, take themselves to the local park or go to changing rooms by themselves. You have a culture of fear in the UK that we have no desire for here. Thank god for tolerance - which is less than what you’ve shown, with your vitriolic posts in response to mine.

No use arguing with a brick wall: I’m out. Off to enjoy my liberal country 😊

Ka kite koutou - or not, seeing as you’re boycotting Aotearoa 😆

But an elderly Kiwi woman was repeatedly punched in the face, how is that allowing her free speech?

What is it with the cocky attitude of so many Kiwis?

You do not live in paradise.

You have no idea about life in the UK.

SeaWitchly · 27/03/2023 03:48

Whatever Bowlofporridge. You might actually learn something if you listened to what Posie Parker has to say rather than 'drowning her out'. And you are delusional if you believe there is no culture of fear for women in NZ but yes, you do you and back off with shutting other women up from speaking about their concerns. By the way, I don't think 'liberal' means what you think it does, the dictionary definition is literally being willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own and being open to new ideas'. Not shutting them down or drowning them out you complete plonker.

TiedUpWithABlackVelvetBand · 27/03/2023 03:50

@Bowlofporridge - you’re obviously a keen rainbow community supporter. I am, too. So - some questions for you.

Do you include the L in LGBT?

Do you think it's OK that lesbians are being called 'sexual racists' because they don't want to include people with penises in their dating pool? Google the Lesbian Project. Google cotton ceiling.

Do you think 'gender identity' over-rides 'sex'? Because if so, there can be no such thing as same-sex attraction.

How is that not the very definition of homophobia?

Transactivism is latently homophobic. Not OK.

To everyone else - please don’t boycott Hawke’s Bay wine - they need ALL the support they can get, and they were not part of the protests.

Please, please do write to Chris Hipkins, though - I absolutely urge you to do that.

And to whoever said NZ is akin to Afghanistan, you can calm down. I am appalled by the protests, but let’s be realistic.

NZ woman here. Currently feel very safe, thank you very much, as do all my female friends. Yes, we are urban, educated women, but from all sides of the political spectrum. Feel very proud that we stood by our transgender sisters, and can't help but laugh at how much this has caused the UK to froth: why are you so concerned about us? Focus on your own country, and the climate of fear in which you are living. We are absolutely fine, and proud to be leading the world in female rights again. Mumsnet does not represent the way the huge majority of my friends feel, and Posey Parker most definitely does not speak for me: the coloniser arrogance...

boycott away!

Surely you mean transgender brothers. You stood by the men. Aa they assaulted women. We can see you from the U.K. and it ain’t pretty.

Ndd135632 · 27/03/2023 03:58

Bowlofporridge · 27/03/2023 02:30

Shame on you for making the logical leap that I support violence against women. The biggest perpetrators of violence in NZ are male partners against their partners. I do not support any violence against women, be they cis or trans.

Also, lesbians do not have the right to meet without males?? What on earth are you on about? That's just absolutely ridiculous…

How sad to be so scared. I am happy to live in a city that has spoken out loudly for inclusivity, rather than prejudice.

Feel free to speak your piece on any forum, NZ or otherwise. But don’t you proclaim that you speak for all women, or that anyone who doesn’t support your views advocates violence.

Inclusive of who? Men? Yep we see you. And it’s ugly for women in NZ.

QueenCamilla · 27/03/2023 04:02

@Bowlofporridge

The orchestra is still playing. But I'd take a life-vest and swim over now, whilst there's a chance yet to save one's face. Don't want to be the last eejit on the Titanic, surely?

GADDay · 27/03/2023 04:04

Because the police let men assault women. They were also going to deny a woman an entry visa, searched her on entry, cancelled her hotel room and left aggressive messages under her hotel room door.

New Zealand is not a safe country for women. I feel really sorry for the women who are stuck there. It's a horrendous dangerous country. Not much bette than Afghanistan.

Are you ok? New Zealand is as bad as Afghanistan.

A bit hysterical, perhaps?

Your comparison with Afghanistan is clearly ridiculous and isn't doing your argument any favours.

GADDay · 27/03/2023 04:09

The vitriol on this thread is awful. @Bowlofporridge I concur.

Feminists don't have to be arseholes.

Women in Afghanistan are allowed to talk to each other.

@GADDay - do you care about the L in LGBT?

To be honest. Not specifically.

I am a live and let live woman/gal/person. I don't give a shit how people identify.

Light and shade. It's a thing.

GADDay · 27/03/2023 04:19

sashh · 27/03/2023 04:11

Women in Afghanistan are allowed to talk to each other.

I must be missing something. Are you seriously trying to say that Lesbian Women can't talk to one another in NZ.

😕 😕 😕 😕

TiedUpWithABlackVelvetBand · 27/03/2023 04:21

You are missing something, @GADDay

Lesbians are being called ‘sexual racists’ by transwomen, for not being willing to include people with penises in their dating pool.

Are you OK with that?

Lesbian groups that won’t include men are being threatened and stopped by transwomen.

Are you OK with that?

user1492757084 · 27/03/2023 04:24

I was SO disappointed to see the reaction in New Zealand to just one woman using her right to free speech about issues that affect her and other women like her.
The group that viciously apposed her is a minority.
It was disgusting the way the polioce did not intervene. Arrests should have been made and people who shut down the voice of women should still be found and prosecuted.

I am not going to boycott New Zealand products because I can not think of any products or industries where trans activists are the main beneficiaries and business owners.
I don't want to penalise every day working country women in dairies, woolsheds, wineries etc. Most activists are city based.

You needn't feel sorry for us - if what I read on MN is to be believed we are living a better life here than you are, and NZ came much higher on the recent list of happiest countries to live in than the UK did!!

As for the rest of you, I suspect you are over estimating your importance to our economy, and I daresay we will survive without you. Plenty bigger fish in the sea! Still, if it makes you think you are doing something important then crack on.

Clearly this elicits strong reactions. I just don't feel particularly strongly.

Have I got it right:

Transgender women (i.e woman with a penis - so a biological male) are getting their pants in a twist because they identify as lesbians and the lesbians are having none of it.

Now to my mind - the lesbians have a point. Penises aren't their jam. Question if a transgender man is bisexual would that be an issue?

I can't tell who is being vilified here. I have lost track.

JustAMum2023 · 27/03/2023 05:11

@GADDay thats exactly what is happening. Men are identifying as lesbians and invading lesbian spaces. Public lesbian groups now consist of bisexual women and men. There is nowhere that is soley for lesbians. They have to meet in secret. We have gone back in time. The whole trans movement is incredibly homophobic and sexist. I watched several lesbians get beaten in Auckland at the weekend, all by men while their trans allies cheered them on. Disgraceful.

You do not live in paradise.

You have no idea about life in the UK.

And yet, whenever there's a travel thread related to NZ we are repeatedly, and quite forcefully at times, told we do live in paradise even when we argue we do not.

The violence that occured at the protest was not supported by the majority of kiwis. it wasn't even supported by the other angry protestors as you can see in the video the mans own friend pulling him away. There will always be outliers, and opportunists who attend these sorts of things.

But yes, kiwi women are safe and happy for the most part. There is a lot of domestic violence. And that is a sad state for people in their homes. But we are safe to walk in town, to use changing rooms/public toilets. To be in public spaces. We still very much have single sex spaces and those aren't going anywhere. There have been expansions to make some spaces more inclusive. But we can still find women only spaces, all over the place.
