This is fantastic, but why the hell is it not on the news in Ireland?

UtopiaPlanitia · 21/03/2023 23:28

This article is using ‘gender assigned at birth’ and female pronouns for BK - I’m pleased the case is getting useful news coverage nowadays (unlike in the past) but the obsfucating language is confusing and minimising of the issues.

teawamutu · 22/03/2023 08:25

Thank you, 'Isla Bryson'. You're a worthless, raping piece of shit, but in being what you are you've brought down the First Minister of Scotland and scared the crap out of the Taoiseach and the leader of the Labour Party.

ChateauMargaux · 22/03/2023 09:20

Fuck that, Bloody Liar!!

'I don't know anything about the case, I first saw it reported at the weekend' ... I live in France and I know about this case and have done for a long time. 'If the situation that arose in Scotland has now arisen in Ireland we are going to have to deal with it in a similar way' Why repeatedly bring Scotland into this - own your own mistakes. This was not right when it first happened and it is not right now.

This case has been in the public eye for a long time and if it were not, there were sufficient concerns about this particular person that it should have been brought to the attention at the highest levels.

There are approximately 500 female prisoners in Ireland ( and 4,500 male prisoners) - it is not beyond the expectations of the average person that the government would be aware of the most extreme cases in the country. As far as I can tell, this person has been in Limerick Prison since at least September 2020.

LV has spoken about listening to the voices from those most affected :
https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/varadkar-says-irfu-should-listen-to-trans-players-excluded-from-contact-rugby-1348961.html?fbclid=IwAR0-UVh0U0l7-4JJ_yf646A_51Qw28-7ztAfM2lg-Ow6xGpveuu_8f8jNk8

but only if those most affected are male - it would seem.

Putting 4 men in front of the camera for this - not a good luck and the other men need media training - inability to maintain eye contact front and centre is not good.

Barbie Kardashion

Haunting case of a troubled and violent teen who now identifies as a “woman” and is housed in the female prison estate.

This is at least partly on the MSM. If they'd found the cojones to question him openly before, he wouldn't have been able to claim ignorance.

Harris, Minister for Justice, knew about it. He is one of Varadker's closest allys.
If Varadker didn't know, he is incompetent.

So it's solely "politician talk" then!!! 😠

"Ireland has self ID and there are no problems there."

Yeah right, said everyone who wasn't born yesterday.

And during the Scotgov consultation, the committee heard evidence from an Irish politician who said that they had some issues they hadn't anticipated and they would do things differently if they did it again. This was all glossed over very quickly.

I can't find the minutes/record of it, but this was the session:

'Senator Regina Doherty, Leader, Seanad Éireann.'

He knew. They all knew. And they were too scared to say anything. And if they were scared of facing down that lobby group, who else are they afraid of?

Yes, although I would also ask why Tusla demanded that reporting was removed.

This was claimed necessary on the basis BK was a minor when he was a minor, but he was an adult at time of court case. The reporting restrictions were mostly confined to Ireland, as I understand it. Which may be why those in the UK and further afield seem to know more about it than people in Ireland.

What I wonder is whether Micheal Martin's eye rolling was about Varadkar's answer or about the temerity of women raising objections.

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 09:38

I thought he was praying for an intervention, Dean.

OP posts:
DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 22/03/2023 09:48

Hoping no one would notice it was going on all through his watch?

I went to friends for dinner on St Patrick's Day and somewhere during the evening I mentioned BK and how scandalised I am - all of us live in the Limerick commutable region, and I'm haunted by those women, just down the road, whose prison experience is made much worse (and less helpful wrt rehabilitation) than it should be. The others - couple in 60s, daughter in 20s - had not heard of the situation. The media blackout worked until now.

It will be interesting to see does this enable discussion of genderism before the referendum.

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 10:04

The media blackout worked until now.

Well, I hope this reaches everyone and makes the issues very, very clear. Barbie Kardashian in a woman's prison is the unavoidable outcome of self ID.

Leo has never been the sharpest tool which is possibly why he is in government but if my kids knew about this Barbie lad then there is no way he did not know. Anyway he knows now so needs to open his mouth a little wider. It is a total joke that this lad was allowed to change gender identity.

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 10:32

It's a total joke that anyone's 'gender identity' (a feeling they have) is taken to be more important than material reality.

OP posts:
Nousernamesleftatall · 22/03/2023 10:35

Leo is an accomplished liar, of course he knew. If we didn't just witness the political suicide by Sturgeon on this very issue his answer would have been very different.

Pseudonamed · 22/03/2023 13:13

I think paedophiles should be at the risk of violence in prison.

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 13:23

Ooh.

'Mr Harris said that the Irish Prison Service will shortly publish a new policy for the management of transgender prisoners, which will be based on best international practice.'

Hilarious, given that Ireland's Self ID was held up as 'international best practise' when Scotland was consulting on the GRR.

OP posts:
Mitsouko67 · 22/03/2023 13:28

No way Leo unaware of BK issue.

I don't believe that.

Pseudonamed · 22/03/2023 13:29

Maybe they could open a unisex prison somewhere.

alwaysawaster · 22/03/2023 13:34

Leo has always been good at sniffing what way the wind was blowing - and this is no different. He knew, has always known about these issues.

He just didn't give a fuck until he saw Sturgeon topple. And was cute enough to recognise that a TWAW stance on it would be career ending.

As to why RTE aren't covering it - well they are still hiding under the bed shaking, aren't they?

Now, Leo, lets have a chat about TW in LGFA, eh?

StephanieSuperpowers · 22/03/2023 13:35

The Irish Times is characteristically timid on the topic too.
