Wow!!! Truly, can I believe the tide is turning??? 🌊🌊

The push back & resistance has started 🙏 next keep all trans ideology out of primary schools.

This is fantastic, but why the hell is it not on the news in Ireland?

State controlled censorship... Wait for the trans propaganda to start up again very soon. All the sob stories & "hate crimes" etc that RTÉ love reporting.

Mommymoments · 22/03/2023 19:02

Pseudonamed · 22/03/2023 13:29

Maybe they could open a unisex prison somewhere.

Very valid suggestion. They can have biological male & female prisons. Separate trans prison. The trans groups would go mental though. What about their rights? What about us biological women's rights?

I think paedophiles should be at the risk of violence in prison.

Nope, the state has a duty to keep everyone who are incarcerated safe - even the most despicable ones. But in doing so, they shouldn't compromise the safety, dignity, etc. of other prisoners, obviously.

"In 2016, a report published by the Irish Penal Reform Trust identified that there was “no policy in place regarding the treatment and accommodation of transgender prisoners and there is clearly a need to address this”.

Its only taken them 7 years 🙄

With how the GRA is written though, they've legislated themselves in a corner, they would either have to change the GRA or just stick with what they've got currently aka bio males in womens prison if they get a GRA. If you look at how gender recognition in the UK started it was because a prisoner took a case that they were trans and weren't allowed a transfer.

I'm waiting for Mary Lou or Ivana or Holly or Paul Murphy etc to be asked about this

Minister says policy on transgender prisoners 'will be informed by best international practice'

The Irish Prison Service is due to finalise a policy on the matter.

I think my fear is that nothing will come of this until Barbie or whoever actually physically harms a woman be it a prison officer or prisoner.
We will then get usual "Lessons learned" rubbish from government.
There is no viable opposition that are properly questioning this. It seems to be just Aontu and a few random independents.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 22/03/2023 19:23

It's obvious what the policy will say. "Informed by best international practice" is the clue here. They will cherry-pick the countries that allow TW in women's jails, and claim that there is no evidence of problems (because no one ever collects any data to find the problems). There will be a load of guff about the UN.

What is less certain is how much heat they will get, in the light of BK and events in Scotland.

Any similar high profile case they would have photos from social media or a photo of BK entering/exiting the court. Genuinely think they're not publishing photos so people don't see what a piss take this is. Unless you're on twitter or read Gript its unlikely you'll have seen the photo

Mommymoments · 22/03/2023 20:48

Look at the constant bashing the Catholic Church get for rte & the mainstream media ( & rightly so) but the whole trans agenda is sympathised with. Rte has not reported on BK

Mommymoments · 22/03/2023 21:19

@Genesis1v27 thanks for the link. Really good that some media is telling it as it is & not sugar coating it. Even better that it's foreign press. Leo et ál wont like that at all .

Genesis1v27 · 22/03/2023 21:37

Nothing much new, but these are two more reports today:

Keep the pressure on.

Good to see it get more sunlight.

'it is understood Kardashian, who is a legally recognised female, has left some prison officers in fear - after allegedly making threats behind bars.'

Yes, as noted up thread, it's not just the female prisoners at risk, it's the officers, too.

OhWhatMerryHellIsThis · 22/03/2023 21:41

I am really hoping that all this might, just might, get the politicians to roll back on the extending of GRCs to 16 year olds that all the major parties support.

Self-ID GRCs are bad enough for adults, but extending them to under 18s gives us even more of a shitstorm with safeguarding in schools, youth groups etc, as there would be 16/17 year old male children with birth certificates saying they are female.

How could you even begin to do a risk assessment on a school trip when a boy rocks up with a birth certificate, passport, medical certificate and school enrollment forms all saying he's a girl?

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 21:47

I didn't realise that was on the cards, OhWhat. Sad

Believerinbiology · 22/03/2023 21:52

Arabella it was one of the aims set out in the programme for government when the current coalition was set up

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 21:53

Under the law Kardashian is a recognised female - and cannot be moved to a male facility.

This is actually worse than the Scottish situation, I think. They claim that it's always been the case that risk assessments were done on an individual basis and a GRC wouldn't necessarily mean automatic entry to the female estate. We know those assessments were deeply flawed, but at least there seemed to have always been the option to put a male in a male prison. Even under the proposed GRR/Self ID scheme I think they'd have retained that ability.

Also, for those saying Kardashian should be in a mental hospital - please no, not in Ireland where he would be automatically placed in a female ward.

The one secure psychiatric unit in Ireland, the NFMHS in Portrane, only has 20 female beds. I have no idea how the women there could possibly be kept safe if he was transferred.

Mommymoments · 22/03/2023 21:59

@OhWhatMerryHellIsThis very good point. Again female patients rights would be violated if he was put there.

OhWhatMerryHellIsThis · 22/03/2023 22:08

Believerinbiology is correct - Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have it as part of the programme for government, and Sinn Fein also want to extend the GRS to children from the age of 16 - or even younger https://gcn.ie/sinn-fein-launch-revised-gender-recognition-bill/. Needless to say the Greens do to. And in fact, according to Citizens Advice you can already get a GRC as a 16 year old, but you need permission from parents and medical support (very transphobic, obviously).

Unfortunately in Ireland the only people standing against all this are Aontu who say they are for common sense and appear to be until you notice that actually they are the rabid pro-lifers and have some rather questionable views on other topics.

Legal recognition of your preferred gender

The Gender Recognition Act 2015 provides for the legal recognition of a person's preferred gender by the State.

I listened to Paddy’s podcast on Limerick prison and found it very informative. One of the former women prisoners that he interviewed detailed how the three sex offenders were in cells on the women’s landing and the women were only allowed out to get food (and a little rec time) but were then locked back in their cells afterwards to segregate them from the sex offenders.

She detailed how the sex offenders shouted rude/vulgar things at the women and managed to intimidate and upset the women prisoners even when they were all locked in their cells almost all day long. She described how women used the stairs on the opposite side of the landing to avoid hearing vulgar things the sex offenders shouted at them. She related that the majority of women on the women’s landing were mothers and were horrified about a child abuser being housed on the landing with them. Other women had been sexually abused and were terrified by the shouting and by the fact that the sex offenders had sexually abused women.

She also described how the women were punished with being locked back in their cells for criticising sex offenders being on the women’s landing. She stated the sex offenders got out of their cells more often than the women prisoners.

Paddy spoke to quite a few of the recently released prisoners and their families, he was very good at getting people to talk about upsetting things.

OMFG that’s outrageous. Those poor women, how can anyone justify them having to live like that and be punished for complaining.

@ArabellaScott absolutely. Mainstream media in Ireland is state controlled censorship.
The gript are excellent.

I don't see this posted, but it looks as if Varadker has issues with his memory.
