Despite everything that has happened over the past few days;

Ben Bradshaw
''A warm welcome for @ Keir_Starmer as he recommits to reforming the UK’s out of date gender recognition process at tonight’s @ LGBTLabour @ LGBTHM
reception in Parliament''

Read the room Kier!

FebName · 08/02/2023 12:55

Bloody hell!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/02/2023 12:55

In a massive shock to no one 🙄

Wondering how long it will take for the usual suspects to pop us to tell us that Labour are the only party women can rely on even though they can’t define what a woman is

mrshoho · 08/02/2023 12:57

Fuck you Labour and fuck you Keir Starmer you plonker. You want what Scotland is embroiled in to come to England? You're not going to win anything now you're continuing to put women as second class citizens.

Igneococcus · 08/02/2023 12:58

He really doesn't want to be in government, it seems.

Beowulfa · 08/02/2023 13:00

Why are you making me consider voting Tory, you useless shitstains?

watchfulwishes · 08/02/2023 13:02

He really doesn't want to be in government, it seems.

People often say this, do you think the polling is inaccurate? Same for the SNP - have their polling numbers significantly changed?

I see no evidence this issue is having an impact on voting intention.

Cheekymaw · 08/02/2023 13:04

Whereas the Tories will just ignore it and allow men to enter women's spaces including prisons, (which has been happening for a few years )but they will pretend they don't believe in self Id!

Yes the SNP's polling has changed dramatically

Igneococcus · 08/02/2023 13:06

Yes, support for the SNP has dropped, also support for another referendum.

Voting intentions is a bit of a tricky subject. There's a big cohort of undecideds and this big group are unsure about whether to vote Labour or not. Going on talking to people who are in this group, a lot of them have concerns about the Momentum debacle and Jeremy Corbyn, the progressives are not popular and the progressives include TWAW. It's very interesting

Igneococcus · 08/02/2023 13:07

And here another link about a recent Scotland poll:

What has Starmer actually said? Has he explicitly stated that they will be pushing forward with self ID? Or has he said that he will be reforming the gender recognition process? That doesn't necessarily mean exactly the same thing...

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 08/02/2023 13:08

Dick move, Keir.

Needmoresleep · 08/02/2023 13:13

I just looked at that Twitter thread. Poor Keir. He does not seem to be keeping anyone happy. Those looking for GRA reform are unhappy that he has not done enough to support Nicola, in the same way as those wanting to rejoin the EU are frustrated by Labours lack of position.

Rishi is not popular with his own party, but hopefully they are not suicidal enough to agitate for a new leadership contest. (A faction are…but the rest must realise that we all want a bit of a break from electioneering.) Rishi has a good majority so he is in a position to push stuff through, including dismantling some of the gender woo. If Keir can’t gather a definite position on issues that matter to some of his natural/potential voters he will look increasingly adrift.

The odds are that Keir will be our next PM, but it is not looking like a particularly attractive prospect.

LizzieSiddal · 08/02/2023 13:14

I want to hear what he actually says because I can’t believe he would declare they
are going down the same road as Scotland with Self ID.

Mind you they are 20 pints ahead in the polls so they probably don’t care!

Thelnebriati · 08/02/2023 13:14

Its astonishing that his reservations are based on '16 being too young' and not 'women's prisons should be single sex.

Out of interest, what else could be done to reform it other than self ID? The tories have already made it virtually free and put it online. I'm struggling to think of other ways it can be reformed.

People are increasingly waking up to the fact that Self ID is reactionary and bad news for women and girls. But Labour could probably adopt almost any policy at the next election and still win because people are so disenchanted with the Tories. I think we're screwed.

Floisme · 08/02/2023 13:22

I used to believe (hope) the Labour Party would clarify what they meant by 'reform' in their next manifesto but I'm starting to think maybe this as as clear as it's going to be before the election, and that they'll announce a consultation to hammer out the details.

That said, I'm not inclined to take anything tweeted but Ben Bradshaw too seriously. But it's not looking hopeful.

Doesn't matter what he says, Tories are desperately pushing the notion Labour are going to bring in self-ID at every opportunity.

Thelnebriati · 08/02/2023 13:26

Ben Bradshaw is Labour MP for Exeter, and it was tweeted on Labour LGBT's Twitter feed.

Yes the SNP's polling has changed dramatically
HTH

Has it? By more than 5 points? Are the SNP going to lose their position as largest party?

I have not seen polling after this issue/policy change, that's why I asked.
