Transmaxxing

Article in Unherd by Mary Harrington about 'transmaxxing', a phenomenon in which young men transition because they can, not because they have dysphoria but in some vague hope of having sex with sympathetic women.

It's reminded me of Ollie London, who assumed that just because you can do something (in his case have surgery to make him look Korean) it's okay. No ideological awareness, no ethics, just a why not? kind of attitude.

If you think "gatekept" is jargon, and don't find its derivation from "gatekeeping" to be intuitive, I take it that you must be a veritable fount of compassion for people who find it difficult to use neo-pronouns like ze/hir.

That's rather a pleasant discovery.

I’m sure it’s really rather common if you move in feminist/identity circles.

I don’t.

Personally I find it a rather ugly expression as a verb having discovered it here.

ArabellaScott · 11/01/2023 16:49

I like how after a discussion including Boob Teacher, Rainbow Dildo Butt Monkey, and incels, you take issue with the aesthetic quality of a fairly unexceptional instance of verb usage.

Picky.

’To Gatekeep’ = niche language.

soz.

Helleofabore · 11/01/2023 16:55

A verb that has been used in business for decades.

It really is hilarious, the distraction techniques and the continued lack of the very simple act of plugging the term 'gatekeeping' into google.

FFS now. It is more common in usage in other sectors than 'feminism' and I am not going to spoon feed it to you.

You can keep on going around and around but it really is making you look ridiculously inept at discussing this topic.

pattihews · 11/01/2023 17:00

FFS, every doctor's receptionist in the UK is a gatekeeper. Every school secretary gatekeeps. Every PA gatekeeps. Every agent gatekeeps. Every hotel receptionist gatekeeps.

What world do you live in?

yes, obvs, but the word’s use as a verb is not common parlance.

perhaps it is among public sector employees?

Sure - but in terms of the overall setting of policy on this issue, the actions of one outlier aren’t that important.

Oh this is gold.
Absolutely stunning yellow gold.

So each and every time a woman complains loudly and publicly about a man of any gender in her space.

Well the actions of one outlier aren't that important.

A world where the word 'gatekeeping' is so hostile that they cannot look it up on google to see the many uses of the word so doubles down on the ridiculousness that is declaring the verb usage is niche to feminism and 'ugly'.

If you ask the average hotel receptionist what their job involves, they will not answer “I gatekeep”

Helleofabore · 11/01/2023 17:09

It is not even logical. What does a 'gatekeeper' (which is supposedly now common according to ELO) do? They are 'gatekeeping' whatever it is that they are the 'gatekeeper' off?

“I gatekeep for the Travelodge in Darlington”, said no one ever.

Keep on posting your sparple, ELO. Each time you do it, readers can see your entrenchment and your absolute lack of credibility at this time.

Funny how those who detest women always reveal countless other prejudices against groups of people.

To keep asking questions that go unanswered = ?

So to reiterate
What is the political point you think is being made by the Canadian teacher with giant prosthetic breasts?

And how do you tell the satirical/joking/political protest trans from genuine trans? You appear to have this answer, you could share.

Think “more echo chamber bollocks”?

Perhaps more people would agree you guys if you used more mainstream language.

HootyMcboob76 · 11/01/2023 18:06

Are you ever going to address the questions in this thread ELO?

Or just focus on ridiculous things like the use of a very common word?

Why not try answering the real questions?

Now you're going to ask "what are the question?" aren't you?

And around and around it goes.

Have no issue at all with public sector workers. But all sectors have their jargon. And most people don’t work in the public sector, so it would be wrong to regard its jargon as something that is mainstream.

What are the questions?

Something about an anti-woke Canadian idiot with comedy tits per chance?

I know you think your questions are going to reveal the fractures in my POV and cause any trans-sympathetic thoughts I have to collapse around me.

But it’s just an idiot with ridiculous fake tits.

ArabellaScott · 11/01/2023 18:12

We must speak more slowly and use fewer words, wims. So that the man can keep up.

Helleofabore · 11/01/2023 18:14

What would non-ridiculous fake breasts on a male look like, by the way?

Where is the boundary for ridiculousness?

A cup?

I'm all for using simple mainstream words to describe things.

Woman
Mother

As a couple of examples

Nope.

Those weren't the questions.
