Transmaxxing
pattihews · 07/01/2023 15:48
Article in Unherd by Mary Harrington about 'transmaxxing', a phenomenon in which young men transition because they can, not because they have dysphoria but in some vague hope of having sex with sympathetic women.
It's reminded me of Ollie London, who assumed that just because you can do something (in his case have surgery to make him look Korean) it's okay. No ideological awareness, no ethics, just a why not? kind of attitude.

We had an interesting visitor to the board a couple of years ago late one night who introduced those unyet knowledgeable about transmaxxing.
LaughingPriest · 07/01/2023 15:58
Trans people have been saying for years that dysphoria isn't a requirement to be trans, it can be a choice/ identity.
(Many disagree, too).
Obviously if a choice is incentivised in any way then of course people are going to, if the perceived benefits outweigh the perceived cons for them.
Boiledbeetle · 07/01/2023 15:59
nothing about any of this even really raises an enquiring eyebrow anymore with me. how words can they stick it in from of?
EndlessTea · 07/01/2023 16:01
To me, this individualistic, capitalist take on gender identity- basically, you get to do whatever you want, shape your world/self however you like (no thought about the impact upon others) as long you have the dough, seems much more the natural home for it, than the left wing idea of class struggle.

There was a thread here a few weeks ago from someone whose colleague was male NB or whatever, was being demanding about his status and all. But the thing that struck me was he said he was 'thinking about becoming a woman' and would decide in the new year (iirc).
No hint of dysphoria, just another lifestyle choice like buying a new car or trainers. And we'd be expected to suck it up, because being a woman is such a slight thing that you can take it off with your high heels 👠 no problem (looking at you, Eddie Izzard).

That struck me too.
The man was ‘thinking’ of becoming a woman! A conscious decision.

Sorry if everyone else knew about this. As others have said, this is just a lifestyle choice for many — women, I think, as well as men. I know lesbians who play with taking testosterone, play with their look, play with identity and usually end up wondering where all their friends went.
My partner just agreed with the comments about capitalism and buying identity and also made an observation about the influence the 'best life' mantra. It's all about conspicuous consumption.
Boiledbeetle · 07/01/2023 16:25
When are they going to realise that we already have a word for all of this.
Personality
That's all this shit is. They are expressing their personality. But do we have to be subjected to every bloody thought that comes into their heads???? Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh
EndlessTea · 07/01/2023 16:29
I agree, BoiledBeetle, but it is personality with a side-order of entitlement.

I just clicked on the Transmax manifesto. It starts with reasons why young men should transmax:
0. sexual excitement from having a feminine body.
- the superiority of female aesthetics.
2. access to the transbian dating pool.
3. full-body orgasms.
4. multiple orgasms from penile stimulation.
5. you will feel emotions stronger and be happier on estrogen.
6. your breasts will become sensitive.
7. being able to attract cis lesbians (if you become attractive enough).
8. being able to attract high-quality males for sex.
9. softer skin and less/no acne.
10. Live longer sci-hub.se/doi.org/10.1111/acel.12170
11. being able to extract resources from males.
12. you will no longer be driven to do dangerous and idiotic things due to testosterone
13. stop and reverse hair loss.
14. people will treat you better if they think you are female.
15. less likely to get killed www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5551594/
16. access to female spaces (males are disgusting).
17. cheaper car insurance.
I don't know where they get the idea that they'll have full-body orgasms. They don't have a clitoris or a cervix. Number 12 is interesting.

It's so ...erm....boring isn't it (sorry that was the most insulting thing i could think of that would upset them!😶)
Boiledbeetle · 07/01/2023 16:42
access to the transbian dating pool.
They do realise that this is mainly other trans people don't they?
Boiledbeetle · 07/01/2023 16:44

Duh! so that's why female me was such a dickhead in high school
Boiledbeetle · 07/01/2023 16:45

less likely to get killed
Two for one. Yeah right!
DolphinWars · 07/01/2023 16:47
Less likely to get killed - are they admitting that TW are actually not being persecuted and murdered at every turn?
EndlessTea · 07/01/2023 16:49
I think number 12 is probably a big factor.
There are many men who resent their own drives and resent women’s freedom from them. I’ve often heard “you’re lucky you don’t feel like you have to do that” when I have been critical of male behaviour.
OzziePopPop · 07/01/2023 16:50
- You’re less likely to get killed..
erm… Wasn’t it supposed to be terribly dangerous to be a trans woman? Like, super super deadly dangerous? Or am I missing something?

Whut?
Blimey that's a list and a half. I'll say no more as I'm on a warning. But oh my days it's funny in its unintentional way.
Datun · 07/01/2023 16:52
Idiotic manifesto. It's all about sex a load of drivel that isn't true. And they will have fewer orgasms, not more. They're not actually becoming a woman!
Absolute idiots.
Although I can totally see it being a lifestyle choice, of course.
It's aspirational. Everyone around you walks on eggshells and you get to demand everything you want, and you can dominate women to your hearts desire.
what's not to like?
