What have people done when asked pronouns? (but are not trans ideologists)

I've never been asked my pronouns but I wonder what I would say if I was. I WFH so never come up. I think I may say 'none' , 'you pick' , or maybe 'the' or simply 'what do you mean?'

So I'm just wondering how people do respond to this if they are not gender/trans ideologists. I'm looking for examples and what happened when you said it.

I’m freelance and so this never comes up. If it did I like to think I’d go with ‘Oh, I don’t do that’ in lightly dismissive tones and with a calm and slightly condescending smile.

I day I don't mind, whatever you feel appropriate

I truly don't. If someone wants to call me he when I'm not there, big woop

I wfh for a small company - and I can't see I would ever be asked this... but if it does...

What pronouns are we meant to be using? Is it just he / she etc or is this extending to pee / zee (or whatever they are as I really don't know much about them).

I’ve never been asked but if I am I will fake being horrified and upset that someone is trying to openly out me in such a manner.

Don't you ever say to anyone "so, now can you tell us what you think?"

But that’s not a gendered pronoun and you’d say the same whatever biological sex someone was.

you don’t say “can she tell us what she thinks”. I mean you could, but you’d be more likely to say “Jane, what do you think”. 🤷‍♀️

I watched a helpful instructional video with a group of people doing a pronoun round and stating their gender identity with influencer smiles and perfect teeth, and it was such a monumentally dumb and stupid waste of everyone's time, only fit for people who have nothing to do. I'll happily use they/them for everyone, I'm definitely doing that more than i used to.

More cross than usual with this shit because of the state of things at work. Acutely unwell admissions being assessed in ambulances etc. I work on a stroke unit and one person there with language problems was echolalic, repeating anything I said. My job is to strip communication down to the essentials to help her understand. The mindless privilege of making something that's supposed to be as simple as possible more complicated at a significant cost to others because of your own fascinating and fragile ego. The wasteful arrogance of it.

'I don't use ideological pronouns, but I'm ok if other people do want to do this. I just use biological pronouns'.

It's still a pronoun. It just happens to be a second person pronoun, not a third person pronoun.

If it's just he/she/they... I think I'll say you can call me what you like.

If it looks like I'm talking to people with a sense of humour, I may have to add something like "But I'll take the pronoun that pays me the most if you want" or "I'm sure I've been called worse.

But most places/people that are likely to ask this type of question are probably going to be pretty stuffy places/people. So I probably wouldn't 😁

atomsgirl · 30/12/2022 21:26

If the pronouns are more complicated than he/she/they, I would like to say that I identify only by biological sex. But if I think I would lose my job by saying that... I suspect I would suck it up..

If the culture was that caught up in identity politics, I doubt I would want to work/be there. So I'm sure I would be looking at an exit plan.

So I hope I don't ever get this question!
