Tbf to the man, that is a large penis.

Franca123 · 29/07/2022 16:29

@DarkDayforMN tbf there is enough men with peadophillic urges to make this not a totally insane theory. If its 1 percent of men, then that's enough people to work on getting some crazy movement like q anon off the ground. Or am I just being a tin hat person now?!

This article is worth reading, but it does make you feel very tinfoil hattish.

I remember when Mhairi Black brought 'Flo Job' into a school in Scotland, Flo then posted pictures of the event on their public social media, without any parental permission. The school were also unable to tag their visitor on their Tweet about the event, because doing so would take a user from their school page directly to a page with explicit content on it.

Just, what the fuck?

Yep

What basic safeguarding investigations were done by the school before the booking?

It was also a basic safeguarding fail by school staff on the day.

Someone in the school, staff, took the photos and gave them to either the male entertainer or to the politician.

A basic question of why would the adult entertainer request the photos was not asked.

The most " innocent " reason was that his aim was to use the children as free advertising for a commercial activity. The school was doing that when posting on SM.

At no stage would the school have been given permission allowing a unconnected business to use the photos and they had no way to get the photos back.

DarkDayforMN · 29/07/2022 16:52

You can see the backs of children's heads in that picture

oh fuck. I think I've only seen a cropped version before, I didn't realise there were children sitting in front of him. Good god, that's not even a little bit okay. And yet he keeps getting invited to read to kids!

Wellies54 · 29/07/2022 15:15

Part of the problem with this is that it is such a gift to the right wing protesters. It is clearly ( in my opinion) adult entertainment and not appropriate as ' diversity and inclusion ' for young children (if for no other reason that the money could be spent on something far more high quality). But because ordinary mum's and dad's are speaking out too the extremists feel emboldened and it will end up being a backward step for genuine acceptance and tolerance.

I saw a telegram screenshot on twitter from the group that have been organising these protests and they plan on being at the next standing for women event in Brighton.

You might have seen a different photo. He has posted multiple pictures like this on his social media from the Drag Queen Story Time sessions. In some, children are also visible. In others they are not.

The peculiar thing is that when librarians post gushing content on their workplace's public pages, celebrating the visit afterwards, they always manage to find a picture in which this doesn't happen.

If it wasn't for him posting these images himself, we wouldn't know.

This is another.

Have you heard the one about the three-legged mermaid?

SolasAnla · 29/07/2022 17:14

Boxowine · 29/07/2022 13:39

The protest will be seen as right wing because it is linked to right wing groups in the US, some of whom have been engaging militant groups like the Proud Boys to not only protest but to arrive armed at dqst events in the US and clear the building.

I have no idea why you would compare this to Covid protests except to say that I definitely see that right wing groups are clearly attempting to link a number of causes together, one of them being anti-vax/anti-mask and this is not something relegated to the working class. Not when you start seeing Robert Kennedy Jr, Alex Jones et al involved.

I wish that British people were as committed to addressing Prince Andrew's involvement in child sexual abuse and sex trafficking as they are to eradicating drag queens from libraries.

I never made a comparison, the link is in the newspaper.

You may want to take the singular example from a small cabal of ultra wealthy paedophiles up with
@exceptmeandmymonkey

You can find the protestors' own videos on twitter, where they are shouting various dogwhistles about how the world is run by a small cabal of ultra wealthy paedophiles intent on a new world order. Sound familiar to anyone who is familiar with world history?

Oddly enough I can form an opinion that normalising sexual content, having adult entertainer's being upsold as acceptable entertainment for a 2 -4 year old, etc., all originates from the same set of moral choices which resulted in sexual access to teen age girl's being seen as tradable commodity.

MangyInseam · 29/07/2022 13:49

Realistically there are always people with poor judgement.

Part of the reason we have rules, including just social norms, about what's appropriate is because there is a % of the population, which is not tiny, who are likely to misjudge what is appropriate.

Yes, people should know better. Certainly there are plenty of gay men who realize this is inappropriate. But there are also people who have poor boundaries of their own, who are not very bright, who are young and don't really know much about child development. It's not like there is a set of standards around these things required to be a drag queen.

And it's often a blind spot when people have good intentions themselves, that they do not consider that good intentions aren't enough to make something ok.

The real failure is with organizations and people who are supposed to know what is right for kids.

And just putting this out there .....

the (gay) venues who continue to book entertainer's who sell themselves as child entertainment need to step up too.

If acts are doing work in the children's entertainment arena then the adult venues need to stop booking them.

These venue can set a clear boundary around acts.

I know it won't happen; but would it not be stunning and brave if these business sent a clear message??

MangyInseam · 29/07/2022 17:33

SolasAnla

I think it would be a really good thing if the gay community, and by that I mean men, would start policing themselves a little more on this. In the sense of making it a serious discussion in their community, obviously no one has the power to enforce it. But it needs to be talked about.

I think part of the reason it gets a pass is because a lot of the people who might think twice are a little nervous to bring it up. There is a huge amount of pressure around bringing into the open things that seem to admit that certain negative things are popular, you ca see it in things like the monkeypox controversies, or talking about underage teen males in the gay community. So there is a kind of pressure to just keep quiet about it.

And then plenty of gay men have no real interaction with the wider gay community, they aren't involved in the club scene, drag, etc. Quite reasonably they don't think it's something they bear responsibility for. If it goes wrong though they are likely to be affected.

And then the other problem is if they do speak up, they may immediately dismissed as "not one of us" and somehow right wing, all the stuff we usually see when people say what they aren't supposed to on the left.

Just as a matter of interest, do drag queen story time raconteurs get DBS checks?

DarkDayforMN · 29/07/2022 17:46

That last image was utterly shocking Purgatory.

I was fucking aghast, and then I realised how gratifying he'd probably find that reaction if he could see it. But how dare he, it was such a blatant picture of his dick topped off with a smarmy innuendo, with "Aida H Dee the Storytelling Drag Queen" advertising very clearly the work he does with kids.

Franca123 · 29/07/2022 17:51

There's a really weird documentary about a school boy on the BBC who wants to be a drag queen. All these scenes where your meant to be thinking - isn't it amazing! But what I was thinking was, that's a school boy in really prolonged sexualised situations. It's really uncomfortable to watch. The BBC would never show a girl in those sort of outfits, doing those poses and dances. But because its a gay boy the BBC is fine with it. Why aren't gay boys afforded the same protection as girls?

KathyMunro · 29/07/2022 17:59

Hmmmmm

Nodern's post was deleted - with the photo of Aida Dee HD in a library. I expect because the photo is showing his private parts bulging under his skin-tight rainbow clothing?

This photo is too 'risque' or 'inappropriate' or 'gross' for ADULTS ON MUMSNET? Yet we are choosing to take our TODDLERS to see him?

Musomama1 · 29/07/2022 18:17

Am I misreading the protest? I'd expect more reasonable mums to be there. It just seemed like two sides used to protesting who were calling each other facists.

I'm a bit non baffled that the pro drag front we're all black mask wearing twenty something men. Hardly that interested or knowledgeable about early years activities.

The guy speaking to them probably more likely to have kids, but also seemed like a well experienced protester and this is the latest issue to get stuck into?

Is it good they are going to Standing for Women? Or is it going to turn into you're a fascist, no, you are a facist'?

I mean having said all that I do think there is an agenda against women, girls and children in all of this. But I don't think it's orchestrated like conspiracy theorists do, I think it's more liberalism going off the rails.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/07/2022 18:35

Panto Dames, Justin in Gigglebiz… performers.

Actors who play pantomime dames are very different from drag queens. The Dames I know say they are a “bloke in a frock.”

SolasAnla · 29/07/2022 18:50

MangyInseam I limited the responsibilty to the people who could choose to make a direct choice.

I think that it is fairer to ask the ones who make the decisions around acts (gay or not male or not) to step up, if they were then it becomes a wider community responsibilty for club users etc to support .

I think one only has to look at how the LGB Alliance was attacked over the monkey pox and only now that it is a very visable problem have prick news decided to give much the same warnings. And how Stonewall was happy to be transphobic when their staff tweeted
www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4599781-stonewall-tweet-booboo

McDuffy · 29/07/2022 19:26

Ooh my first deletion and I've been on FWR almost four years. I see AGP references still aren't allowed <sigh>
I haven't had an email, does that mean it's not a strike? I never even had a break time detention at school so getting more badly behaved as I get older Grin

Just to reiterate: pantomime Danes are not drag queens
