JKR and more bomb threats

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 06:59

JKR posted on Twitter that a user of another account posted her address, a picture of a pipe bomb and a handbook for making bombs.

If you are defending these people, you are defending terrorism now. It’s incredible how low they will go and still try to claim the moral high ground (although I suppose that’s space and they can’t really help thinking they should have all the space?).

I do think most trans people are not like that, but they need to stand up and condemn this shit. This is being done in their name. They cannot complain that ‘people are scared of transpeople for no reason’ when their ‘allies’ are sending bomb threats, rape threats and murder threats to women. And it is usually women who get the worst of the abuse. The only reason people feel emboldened to do this is because no one says stop it.

Absolutely this!

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 14:30

‘The account was only 3 weeks old when the threat was made, fortunately the (likely false) pfp cannot be reverse image searched.’

I’m sorry, I don’t understand.

@achillestoes ""She’s not human""."Where have we heard things like this before?"

Where indeed.

How do any of you know a trans person is behind this? Talk about jump to conclusions and condemnation. Let the evidence be pursued and justice follow, rather than piling in….

No one has said a trans person is.

What is being said is that these actions are being done in their name. They should call it out.

Quicknamechangefortoday · 02/07/2022 15:27

Unfortunately I doubt the police will be able to do much, as they’ll no doubt be busy arresting a middle class woman from Surrey called Jane for saying women with penises are men (probably).

Less is more, MargaritaPie, less is more. The first four words of your post were all that were needed.

😂

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 15:38

@Larasizzler

I see. I suppose it could be a stolen picture.

Oh, of course that’s all she had to do. Report to twatter, and they would rush to her aid, just like they always do with all the violent abuse/rape threats/death threats she has received in the past…… FFS.

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 14:19

Why are we meant to be protecting the identities of potential pipe bombers again?

Because in case we hurt the feels of the pipe bombers, I think?

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 16:23

The pipe bombers think we are horrible mean old women. The pipe bombers think we are bigots. The pipe bombers want us to be kind and to teach us to be kind they will send us rape and death threats until we learn our lesson.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 16:27

Really we should all be checking our privilege, because clearly the fact that none of us women make regular rape and death threats to all these pipe bombers is a pure side effect of our privilege.

Really, JKR should be apologising to the pipe owners for making them feel so cross and forcing them do all these awful things.

I saw earlier that someone (barrister Ania?) had been very on the ball and screenshotted most of that account before it disappeared. I thought Twitter had chucked the user out but apparently they hadn't. The user has deactivated the account so could re-appear with a namechange if Twitter and the police don't track them down. However, it looked as if the person behind the account had been contacting real people and mentioned working with them, so hopefully trackable.

Conflictedunicorn · 02/07/2022 16:48

MargaritaPie · 02/07/2022 13:33

Obviously this is wrong but shouldn't she have at least censored the account she is accusing of doing this before broadcasting them to 13.9M followers? There are now abusive comments advocating violence towards the person she has accused.

JK Rowling should have gone straight to the police with this, not straight to Social Media.

So it’s ok fir that person to send bomb threats but nor be called out for it? Why? Why should she not let people know what has happened? And if you expect sympathy for someone who has sent a bomb threat to someone, again, why? Are we supposed to give them a pass because they are trans? If it had been the IRA making a bomb threat, should that not be called out?

MargaritaPie · 02/07/2022 16:57

"So it’s ok fir that person to send bomb threats but nor be called out for it"

Report to the police, let the police do their job instead of putting the law into the hands of random Twitter users. If threats of a terrorist nature have been made then I'm sure charges will be pressed and we will hear about it in the news and media and can comment on it then.

I'm not doubting JK Rowling at all, I'm just not a fan of witch-hunts or lynch-mobs.

A thing we can all rely on, whatever happens to JK Rowling, however unhinged and misogynistic the perpetrator, whatever she does about it, she's the one in the wrong.

Well, not on the GC side anyway amirite? Bet you’d be up for a witch-hunt if it was a GC person who had transgressed. Why should this person not be public ally allied out? I thought the traliban were all in for accountability and taking responsibility?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 17:07

she is accusing of doing this

We can see they are doing this. I saw the tweet before she retweeted it because people picked it up.

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 17:07

The public way in which this debate is being played out (women being banned from libraries, their work being taken down off websites, their meetings being invaded by aggressive protestors) means this is part of a wider public discourse anyway. It’s not some random threat. It’s part of the systematic monstering of females who say no to males, and therefore completely appropriate that it stays in the public domain.

OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 17:14

Exactly.

Plasmodesmata · 02/07/2022 17:15

I'm reminded of an occasion where Owen Jones was sent homophobic abuse on Twitter.

He did not do as Margarita suggests above. He set his twitter followers onto a woman whose twitter account had been hacked. Here's the thread from the time.
www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4554627-owen-jones-sent-revolting-homophobic-abuse

So if JK did the same thing as Owen is she wrong or is he right?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 17:16

If the owner of the account had used a picture they stole from FB/Insta etc (your child for example) as their profile pic then bad faith actors will reverse image search to dox the innocent person in the picture.

Someone who uses someone else's photo as a cover to send anonymous threats to women is the bad faith actor here, I think.
