JKR and more bomb threats

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 06:59

JKR posted on Twitter that a user of another account posted her address, a picture of a pipe bomb and a handbook for making bombs.

If you are defending these people, you are defending terrorism now. It’s incredible how low they will go and still try to claim the moral high ground (although I suppose that’s space and they can’t really help thinking they should have all the space?).

Obviously that is a risk (and not a small one) but it’s not acceptable for the war against women to be fought in public and the defence action to have to take place in private. We’re not covering up people’s crimes against us because ‘be kind’.

The police should deal with it. I think most of them are at Pride this month, though.

And who would be to blame? The person who knowingly stole someone’s picture and sent threats or the victim? What makes you think the police would respond to this? Now if was a woman stating an opinion against the trans cult they’d be there with blues and twos, but a threat against a woman? Nah, too busy changing our pronouns

PlantSpider · 02/07/2022 17:56

There seems to be a new thing of accusing JK of ‘punching down’ when she responds to the smaller accounts sending her threats of violence, it’s ridiculous. Like in this recent article: www.politico.eu/article/metamorphosis-jk-rowling-trans-rights/

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 18:00

Yes, she’s “punching down” on “tiny little accounts” by being the big bad cis billionaire.

The person who put them in blast also has some lesser responsibility.

I think when you make threats of violence the victim of those threats doesn’t have a responsibility to stay quiet.

No.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 18:25

This is all a bit "look over there, a squirrel"

TheWeeDonkey · 02/07/2022 18:29

JKR could become the victim of actual serious bodily harm and people like Margarita will be excusing it because JKR is a white billionaire.

The fact that she is a self made billionaire and her creativity has inspired thousands is a small detail to them.

Would you say that if it was any other person? If Nimco Ali got a death threat on line, should she be allowed to tweet about it? When Owen Jones did the same thing, was he wrong to tweet about it?

Ffs JKR is not Spider-Man.

Yes, exactly. She is a successful woman who will not sit down and be quiet. And that makes some people very angry.

Actually I think the fact that she hasn't made her money from marrying a man, but rather earned it all herself is extra annoying to a certain type of male person.

Why? Why should the victim of bomb threats or any threat not call out the accuser on the off chance that person may have used a fake avatar? Should anyone who gets threats nor speak up about it? Don’t the traliban often blast people for wrongthink? Do you think they stop to think that persons avatar might not be them? So just to check, at what level of followers is it ok to call out threats you have received, just so I don’t make a faux pas?

Roseglen84 · 02/07/2022 18:41

MargaritaPie · 02/07/2022 13:33

Obviously this is wrong but shouldn't she have at least censored the account she is accusing of doing this before broadcasting them to 13.9M followers? There are now abusive comments advocating violence towards the person she has accused.

JK Rowling should have gone straight to the police with this, not straight to Social Media.

Your post can basically be summed up as - 'obviously this is wrong....but here is a bullshit excuse why I'm going to blame JKR anyway'.

She didn't just accuse, she showed direct evidence of a bomb threat using her actual address. Why the fuck shouldn't she share that on social media? If the person is reckless enough to post bomb threats to people, they deserve to be outed.

But no, the real crime is apparently that JKR didn't just stay quiet about it. Shut the fuck up women, even when you are getting bomb threats!

And as for 'gone to the police', we know well from experience the police don't even take it seriously. She has said previously she has had dozens of death threats in the past, what has been done about those? Not much apparently. What confidence would she have that the police would do anything useful.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/07/2022 18:42

I can't be arsed to check but I assume @Larasizzler and #@MargaritaPie were on the LOJ thread condemning him for doxing the women who was hacked and whose account was used to send homophobic tweets. I believe her employer was involved.

I mean since the most important thing isn't the threats, it's the retweeting. These foot soldiers for justice would have been there too, right?

Conflictedunicorn · 02/07/2022 18:44

I assume @MargaritaPie also deplores those transpeople who go on Twitter or Reddit to claim about being ‘misgrndered’ or ‘attacked by transphobes’. Wonder if they get told to keep quiet and suck it up? Or is it only women who have to keep silent about the abuse they receive?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 18:49

I don't think these arguments are particularly convincing to anyone except TRAs and their friends.

True. But it is quite amusing watching their mental gymnastics trying to convince us that the victim is actually more to blame than the perpetrator. DARVO in action.

LordLoveADuck · 02/07/2022 19:03

Larasizzler · And who would be to blame? The person who stole the picture and anyone who doxxed them without due diligence.

You not only are assuming supporters of JKR would act upon this information in the same violent, unhinged manner as TRAs would if the shoe was on the other foot but also that JKR retweeted the threat knowing her supporters are violent goons who act impulsively.

The fact of the matter is JKR knows that her supporters are not violent and have never advocated violence. Her making this threat public puts no one in danger.

Last but not least, please cite some evidence that JKR supporters have ever advocated violence against trans.

This. There are many reasons why going public to the masses on Social Media before the police have done their investigations and advised you generally isn't a good idea. Even more so with more serious crimes like this one.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 19:05

Well, you know, Margarita, the police so far have proven they are not interested in protecting women. So I can completely see why people would try other means of protecting/defending themselves.
